“Best Present Ever”

Written on: 16/07/2014

I recently broke my foot and have been hobbling around on crutches as well as having a cast on up to my knee. My husband can't cook (won't cook) so I was highly delighted to receive a parcel from my son's girlfriend and her mum! It contained three ready frozen meals from Cooks and three desserts. The first meal we had was the Beef Bourguignon, it was delicious, lots of tender rump steak in a rich and plentiful sauce, second was the Fish Pie, equally delicious with plump juicy prawns in a… Read Full Review

“Perfect for a lazy human”

Written on: 26/05/2014

I hate cooking. To me, preparing food is a chore and it's the last thing I want to do at the end of a long day. As a result, for the past few years, I have been the king of ready meals; you name it, I've eaten it. The ones from Sainsbury's etc are edible but generally taste quite poor and surely don't do you much good. Cook is the best compromise that I've found. The food tastes pretty good (not sure what the other reviewers here are unhappy about.. perhaps my standards are low?) and although… Read Full Review

“What a Shame”

Written on: 14/04/2014

I had high hopes that these meals would make life a lot easier for me after a day at work! However, they've been generally disappointing, particularly the children's meals. They didn't enjoy the pasta, cottage pie (something spicy in it, possibly by mistake?)fish pie or chicken dishes. The main meals were pretty mixed. Some of the curries were ok, but no better than M&S/ Waitrose ready meals. All in all, I won't be bothering again… Read Full Review

“Cook standards v beef stroganoff”

Written on: 24/02/2014

Generally delighted with Cook meals. Been buying them for years + for my elderly Mum. But tonight's beef stroganoff was the biggest disappointment - sour tasting, unappetising and generally unpleasant. What a shame… Read Full Review

“Would not recommend”

Written on: 29/01/2014 by Oloughra (2 reviews written)

Cook was recommended to me by two families. At first I thought I had selected badly and I went back a number of times over christmas - to date. I have 3 children and a new baby and this seemed such an easy option for entertaining. Everything I bought ended in poor feedback. The kids didn't like the food including the puddings !! Adults politely left plates half full. Even at my busiest I could have made better food myself but I thought I was getting everybody a treat of good food. I tried most… Read Full Review

“Delicious but Stingy portions!”

Written on: 18/01/2014

We have had a number of meals now from Cook. The taste and quality has been delicious but the portion sizes are extremely stingy. The last meal we had, which was a beef, mushroom & brandy sauce dish, was mainly made up of sauce. I actually thought they'd forgotten to add the meat! I searched through with my spoon and found just a few pieces. There weren't even many mushrooms. It's a shame because the quality and taste is really good but I just don't think this is good value for money… Read Full Review

“Avoid if you are entertaining!”

Written on: 02/01/2014 by Mazmaz (1 review written)

For the Christmas period 2013 I spent nearly £150.00 on Cook Shop meals as I had several guests who are vegetarian or who like variety. Without exception the meals were a great disappointment. The beef bourguignon had little meat. The salmon gratin was tasteless and had an excess of uncooked potato slices - despite giving the dish an extended cooking time. The souffles came with an amusingly phrased disclaimer and certainly needed it. The biggest disaster of all was the vegetarian dish in filo… Read Full Review

“Too salty”

Written on: 12/08/2013

I thought I'd give Cook a go after getting back from holiday really tired and longing for a prawn curry. I was sold the Malaysian prawn curry and also the lime and coconut rice to go with it. The curry is very over salted (I generally add salt to food so I'm not shy of a bit of seasoning!). The curry had no heat to it and needed more lime. It was horrible, which is a shame… Read Full Review

“Beef Bourguignon”

Written on: 05/04/2013

I found this meal absolutely awful. The 'Top Rump Steak' was stringy and there was only two very small pieces. The smoked bacon I could not find, the bulk of this so called meal was caremelised shallots, onions and garlic. A truly disgusting meal that ought to be prosecuted under the trade description act… Read Full Review

“lasagne al forno”

Written on: 18/11/2012

Have not bought this for about 6 months. Not as good as it used to be.Too much tomato ,not as much meat hardly any bechamel sauce. If you have changed the recipe to keep cost down, not a good move. I used to recommend this to friends and would serve it to them ...it was always a success.Don't think I will be buying it again, will have to go back to making it myself . What a faff!… Read Full Review

“Oh, yes please!”

Written on: 02/07/2012

I don't like cooking, so these ready meals are great for me.I especially like the Hearty Fisherman's Pie, the Liver, Bacon and Onions and the Lamb Casserole with Minted New Potatoes. The Thai curries ( both red and green ) are lovely, just spicy enough, and the portions are generous...a double size portion really does feed two hungry adults! They are a great standby to keep in the freezer, especially the microwaveable recipes...fantastic value. Keep 'em coming!! (ps small complaint...didn't… Read Full Review

I really can't believe you say "just like mamma made", if my mum had made stuff like this she would be embarrassed and turn in her grave, it's overpriced, pretentious rubbish, I have had a few meals from here and it's nothing special - the prices are astounding though - £14 for a apple tart!!! I could go on but won't - all I can say is the two guys are very clever at marketing and have made a fortune selling this stuff....

“Pleasantly Surprised”

Written on: 08/11/2011

After reading the reviews, I was a bit wary of trying Food - however I bought the Lasagne al Forno and it was delicious. My only concern is, having looked on the pack, it doesn't say where the mince came from. I don't like the thought of foreign mince ... however, I would thoroughly recommend this dish - and I'm not easily pleased usually ! I would say there is plenty for three people in this dish costing £6.99. Not really enough for four, especially if they are hungry men… Read Full Review

“Amazing food, amazing service!!”

Written on: 19/07/2011 by imogen_c (1 review written)

I wasn't sure what to expect, for me frozen meals from supermarkets are usually over-processed & taste pretty bland. I decided to go ahead & buy from Cook as i had little time to prepare meals at home. I am so glad i did, it's the best thing i have done in a long time! The meals are amazing, we have been astonished by the quality & taste. It takes no effort & hardly any dishes used, & the best part is it tastes fantastic. The lasagne's are amazing - even the macaroni has an edge to it! We love… Read Full Review

“Was initially recommended by family member...now wish...”

Written on: 16/05/2011 by hayabslee (4 reviews written)

Was initially recommended by family member...now wish I wasn't.

The 3 best words to sum up this company, are: overpriced, over-rated and pretentious!

We visited their store in Billericay. Straight away, we were approached by a member of staff trying to get us to try their 'hot taster' and said did we know what the shop did...yes, frozen meals - maybe we looked stupid! They eventually left us alone.

We did go into this shop with high hopes following previous rave reviews, however, we wish… Read Full Review

Gillianc's Response to hayabslee's Review

Written on: 15/05/2013

Actually, I have to agree, I have had many meals from this shop to try and see if they are really worth the money, its very hit and miss with the quality, and the pushy sales assistants are unbelievable, I know someone who works in one of the branches and says how they have to push, push push sales through, they say that they go on their marketing of being just like you would make at home - well, I'm not one to boast and I'm no Masterchef but if I served up some of these meals I would be ashamed. I'll stick to my own cooking, no wonder the two men who thought this shop up are very rich, to me they are just twosales men who have hurt certain people that this is gourmet cooking - believe me it isn't!!!!! I did notice that many people in the shop where I went are elderly - there are some very well heeled pensioners out there!

TheMrsH has commented on my own review (thankyou!) However I have looked into TheMrsH's comments and yep you've guessed it, he/she has made negative comments on all the reviews he/she has read. Even the positive reviews??? Well I suppose that just goes to show that TheMrsH's comments carry no weight whatsoever.
