“Murkier and Murkier!”

I managed to speak to Paul Thorley last week regarding the log book for a Focus I picked up in March. He could not find the log book but told me it had probably been registered with a third party who "introduced" them to the main dealer! He was very vague and would not tell me who this third party was. I am in the same position. I bought through autofinders a Ford Smax Titanium 12-plate delivered by Vospers Exeter in March 12. No V5C yet....

I heard through an e-auction site that autofinders bid through that (name removed) had said he would have processed all the backlog of V5C by the end of July.

“Still waiting”

We are still waiting for the V5 after collecting a car in April from Autofinders. We haven't yet heard anything from the MD so looks like we are also going to have to contact DVLA. We ordered the car in October 2011 for delivery mid December so had a long wait and they were never very good at keeping us informed. (read more)

“Broken Promises”

Ordered a brand new Ford Titaniun X with factory fitted extras way back in December last year with a promised delivery of four months. Made several attempts to find out delivery position but was fobbed of with excuses like production problems.Recently have been unable to make contact by any means and I now join the the rest of cheated buyers. “Contact made”

I bought a new Nissan from autofinders in march this year on a 12 plate. I had chased autofinders many times for the v5c document as it hadn't arrived. I have read reports about autofinders closing down and was worried I wouldn't get the document. However this week I received a phone call from the director who told me the business had stopped trading and he was sorting all paperwork out and that he had found the v5 document and was posting it out to me. I have also just received a call from (name removed), the owner of Autofinders, who confirmed that the business has closed down. I will now be contacting the DVLA to resolve the registration.
Although I am disappointed about the outcome, I must thank (name removed) for having the guts to personally contact me, after he has lost his business. I also believe him when he says that he has not launched the business under another name.

“Where's my new car?”

I paid Autofinders  a deposit for a new car last year. I am still waiting for the car. I recently learnt from another source that they are no longer trading under the name Autofinders and that they would be contacting customers about refunding their deposit. I have not yet been contacted by them. I hear that they are not answering the phone or responding to emails. How discourteous!  Let this be a lesson to those who put their trust in family firms selling discounted cars. I shall give these... (read more)

“INCOMPETENT COWBOYS - AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE”

I had the misfortune to order my wife a new car via this bunch of muppets in July 2011 - a year ago. It was promised within 12 weeks, after endless chasing and excuses I got a first unprompted email after 10 weeks advising it would arrive week 24. I received an email from (name removed) MD of Autofinders today so he still exists. He was trying to claim some credit for helping sort out my V5 which arrived last week from DVLA after much hassling of him from me and 6 months after my car was delivered. He reads these pages. He says he is losing his business. He deserves to in my opinion but not until he has reimbursed everyone who has paid a deposit and sorted out every missing V5. At best, (name removed) and Autofinders are incompetent and you should avoid every company he is involved in. At worst, with so many V5s going missing, there is something more sinister going on here as it can't just be a coincidence. If RMI are of any use at all, they will blacklist (name removed) for ever.

Just like the previous reviewer, I purchased a car from Autofinders in and they have been giving me the runaround for ghe last 6 months in relation to the V5. DVLA has confirmed that I am not the first registered owner and Trading Standards has advised that I start an action for breech of contract and contact RMI. I am dealing with Paul Thorley the MD who can neither provide a plausible explanation nor an apology. There's here is obviously something going very wrong here. (read more)

I have also contacted RMI and put in a claim.
I have also filled in the form with the DVLA to get the car registered in my name, which will mean that I am not the first registered owner, but at least the car will be registered to me.
Have you got any contact details for Paul Thorley as nobody answers the office phone or email?

Me too, ordered a car begining of May £1200 deposit, not heard anything, not been able to contact them or respond to emails for 2 weeks now... luckilly i paid via credit card so will hopefully be covered, i have started the ball rolling with them already to try and get a refund! AVOID

I purchased a Hyundai Santa Fe from Autofinders in March 2012. I dealt with Dave Shaw and the transaction went smoothly. However, I have yest to receive the registration documents, and the DVLA have now confirmed that I am not the registered owner, even though Autofinders promise that you will be the first registered owner. Just to update, I have just received a call from (name removed), the owner of Autofinders. He confirmed that the business has closed and has apologised for the situation.
After some reflection, I would change the original ratings I gave in my initial review, as the customer service and value for money was excellent throughout the process of supplying the vehicle. The issue was the registration document and being unable to contact Autofinders. I have now contacted the DVLA to resolve the registration and it is now obvious why I couldn't make contact.
I also now have respect for (name removed) for personally calling me, after his business has gone bust (I believe him when he says he has not just started up under another name) and apologising. I think he has lost more than me in this matter - I can sort out the registration of the vehicle (which I am very pleased with), but he has lost everything.

I went with Autofinders because they had the Skoda Yeti I wanted in stock due to a cancellation - unlike most of the dealers who were talking about 3 to 9 months' wait. The local dealer was none too happy obviously. There were a few delays in getting the car across but from day of contact to receiving the car was about a month, and Dave even drove the car down 200 miles himself to deliver it on a Saturday morning, arriving at 7:30... part-exchanged my old car against it no questions... Dont ever use this Company. I spent over 20k and i am stilling waiting 9months for V5 even though they promise to send it within 12 weeks. Complained to someone claiming to be owner and he was the rudest person I ever met - even said to me at one stage "get itr into your head".

Dave has now left Autofinders and Autofinders are not returning phone calls or emails. BEWARE - DO NOT USE AUTOFINDERS. They promise that you will be the first registered owner, but I have not received the registration documents for a car purchased in March. The DVLA have confirmed that I am not the registered owner.
I will be taking legal action against Autofinders as they are in breach of contact - assuming they haven't already gone out of business.

“Rare car and discount? How...and why? Who cares !!!”

Autofinders helped me with the sourcing of a new land rover discovery and im delighted with how the whole transaction occurred. I had been to my local land rover garage, and a few others nearby. “Appalling Experience - Had to Sue (Successfully)”

Over the years my wife and I have bought more than 15 cars, and dealing with Autofinders was by far the worst car-buying experience I have ever had. I bought a Hyundai from Autofinders in October 2011, but when I got it home I found that the interior trim had been badly damaged by the fitting of the optional front parking sensors. We would like to take this opportunity to respond to this unfortunate incident. As with any dispute, their are always 2 sides to the story and feel it is important to put across a few missing details and our response to this matter.

Firstly, this situation is deeply dissapointing to us as a business. We are a family run company who pride themselves on an excellent record of customer service, repeat business and reccomendations from happy customers to friends, family and work collegues.

Clearly on this occasion, we misjudged the situation and got this matter wrong. For this we appologise in the strongest possible way. We would like to put on record our version of events.

Our company specialise in sourcing and supplying new cars to customers either over the telephone, internet or in person at hugely discounted prices. In some cases, this is even achieved on hard to source vehicles where its unlikely that a retail customer can walk into their local main dealer, find a car in stock and offer a discount. Our discounted prices range from £400- £11000 off the reccomended retail price.

On this occasion, our customer placed an order for a new Hyundai santa fe, requesting dealer fitted accesories including parking sensors and a sunroof. The price was agreed with the customer, which was an approximate saving on the reccomended retail price of £3000+. The customer paid a depsoit by credit card and waited for the vehicle to arrive.

The vehicle was delivered to our company by the hyundai main dealership, who had arranged for the parking sensors and the sunroof to be fitted. The sunroof was an authorised aftermarket fitting by a company called webasto, who are authorised by hyundai to install the sunroofs into their vehicles.

The customer inspected the vehicle at our premises, before paying the final balance. Approximatley 16 days later, the customer contacted us to inform us that their was interior panel damage, of which we requested photos, and upon reciept, agreed to the repair of this under goodwill immediatley. Another issue then arose in respect of the parking sensors, of which, again under good will, a payment was made to the customer for this repair.

In may 2010, 6 months after the customer had collected the vehicle, the customer reported a fault with the sunroof. As this was a large item, we contacted the hyundai dealership and webasto installer for advice on how to deal with this. It was informed to us that the correct procedure was to inspect the alleged fault, and for the customer to bring the car back to us to inspect and meeting the hyundai dealership agent and websato installer to be done under the warranty. Travel costs for the customer were offered. the customer refused this saying it was unreasonable. To this day we have not seen the faults that were on the vehicle so cannot possibly comment on what they were.

What followed was unpleasant, however the suggestion that we knew this item was not covered under warranty is untrue. We did everything possible based on the information given to us by the approved installer and the hyundai dealership and followed their process. We even offered to buy the vehicle back from the customer but the customer refused this.

To conclude this, we are deeply dissapointed we have not been able to manage this customers expectations, we have learned from this as a business and we aim to keep all our customers as happy as possible and we have unreservedly appologised to this customer for this situation.

Was very happy with the car, but the salesman would not offer a penny of discount due to it being a new model. <br/>In answer to your question regarding V5 documents, it is illegal to withold a V5 document for any period of time. We only deal as a business directly with franchised main dealerships, who register each car through the DVLA. 95% of these are registered to the customer as 1st owner, as clearly identified on our live internet site. Volvo are the only new car manufacturer where the cars are registered to ourselves 1st, however we instruct dvla of the sale immediatley as required by their legislation.

<br/>We do, from time to time, offer pre registered vehicles that a dealership has self registered, however we do not in any way deal with any company that with-holds a V5 document for any amount of time.

<br/>We are aware of many companies, as you say, where the selling company deliberatley withold the V5 document to their customer and advertise 2nd registered keeper vehicles. We are not one of those companies.

For example, a Hyundai IX35 4wd has infinate manufacturer delivery times, so it isnt really beneficial to offer this car for sale. There are huge supply issues from manufacturers at the moment from throughout the world, some part due to the tsunami in japan-where many of components are made for all makes of cars. Was a bit worried at first about purchasing a new car online, should'nt have been it was trouble free exrepience all AutoFinders staff were very helpfull,showing good professionalism and a great knowledge of their subject.
They were able to supply the car that I wanted to the spec:,colour, added options and at a great price.
There was a 6 month manufacturers lead in time for the vehicle but I collectd it on the agreed date, with part exchange on my previous car allready arranged, so drove in... (read more)

I collected my new car from Autofinders in chesterfield this week. I bought a new Citroen C3 exclusive and the price given to me was significantly lower than the offer from my local dealer.

Website clear and easy to use, salesman very informative and chatty, but no pushing at all, in fact it was me that chased the salesman for the deal. Part exchange was smooth as was the whole thing. Ordered a car from these people (to be used as a co car) Sept last year and it duly arrived and was collected in Dec. Since then we've been trying to obtain the V5C log book from them and have been fobbed off with excuse after excuse such as the DVLA are taking their time processing it - not true I contacted the DVLA and they'd never seen the V5C! The manufacturer has it! etc.

Ordered new car over phone in november and was given 16 week delivery time which turned out more or less to the day, car delivered yesterday.
No frills service, they did exactly what they said they would. Kept me updated weekly. Paid credit card deposit, paid balance when car was delivered after i had seen it etc. Safe and confident purchase. All staff polite and proffesional, couldnt really ask for anymore.

Autofinders are good people who will work hard to find a car for you at a very decent price and deliver it as agreed. The staff are rather overworked so patience and/or a gentle persistence may be required.

However, I would advise anyone to tread carefully before entering into a PX arrangement with them. Their current PX policy allows them to adjust the PX price at the time of changeover. Despite describing my old car honestly and openly Autofinders decided it didn't match their... (read more)

<br/>Indeed we agree that our staff are all very hard working and dedicated to providing the best possible levels of customer service. September is possibly the busiest month in the motor industry calendar and as such demand from customers is at a peak, not only with us but with all franchised dealerships and transport companies. This obviously puts a strain on our staff resources however every member of staff is determined to ensure that our high standards are adhered to.

<br/>We would like to respond to your comments in regards our part exchange policy. We offer customers a full part exchange facility in most cases without actually seeing the car before we offer a price. This is done by an e mailed form where we ask all of our potential customers to complete themselves and we ask for an honest and accurate description along with all relevant details. This form also states that if the vehicle differs in any way from that as described on this form then this MAY effect the part exchange price on handover. We have taken in excess of 100 part exchange vehicles in the past 12 months and on only 3 occasions have we had to ammend the price on handover due to damage or missing items on the vehicle based on the description.
<br/>
<br/>The only way that we could possibly look at changing this policy is insisuting that any customer with a potential part exchange visits us so we can inspect the vehicle before valuing, however as we have customers from the north of scotland down to the south west tip of england this could be very inconvinient for most if not all of our customers, so this is something we are not looking to do at this stage.
