Good Points: Accurate beyond belief. Excellent ergonomics. It can only improve your shooting.
Bad Points: Far better than I will ever be. Needs work to get right, but the same can be said of any rifle.
General comments: With the poor economy, the Steyr LG 100 Connect now retails at £1450, so I found and bought a used official 12fpe import LG100 connect. On doing so I have found something out that I had not previously realised. The development of the LG110 was far from clear cut. The Austrian gun maker did not suddenly stop making the 100 to start producing the 110. Indeed, many of the parts on my 100 are the same, not least of which is the main chassis, albeit minus the fancy CNC machined in name. So, it was a slow development that from the rifle that first built their reputation, as will happen in small production runs with enthusiastic research and development. Fair to say then, that this renders the often heard comments that the 100 is superior to the 110, a myth. (Quite obvious when you count the owners of each against such reports, now that I come to think of it.)Styling. Taste being subjective, it ' s not every ones cup of tea I am sure. Of the ' full race ' FT designs I have to say it is the most appealing to me. But few remain in standard guise for very long anyway. They do look surprisingly good decked out in a full wooden stock.Equipment. The "Connect" being a sound idea for transportation, I quite liked the system initially. However it is somewhat redundant when you attach a scope to the rifle, as the supplied ABS case is no where near large enough to accommodate anything other than basic scopes, making it little more than good quality packaging. Plus the design of the locking lever is such that it is very easy to catch whilst getting into shooting position. A couple of times I have found myself wondering what had happened to the butt end of the stock while on the line. After messing about tightening the adjuster on the cam-lock I did end up drilling and pinning it to stop this annoying occurrence happening again.Other equipment includes the charging adaptor and the handbook which contains the target from the test firing: You don ' t get a lot for your money. Risers for the fore rail (hamster) will cost you extra, and the standard items are not pretty. Getting some made is the best option if you have the connections. Most FT shooters know someone. Getting them keyed to suit the standard accessory rail common to all match rifles is highly recommended. The Weaver rail that is seen sitting a-top in many publicity pictures is another £100 odd quid too and opens a whole new tin of worms with it using military sized grooves. Convenient if you regularly strip down the optics. (Perhaps the original thinking behind the connect system?)Setting up.Knowing a few people with LG ' s of both types, and being advised of significant zero shift in changing temperatures, before I did anything else I removed the barrel and filed out the fore end clamp so as to fully float the 16mm barrel which cures the problem. It takes half an hour at most and is not as drastic as it sounds. It is a common problem on many designs and having experienced this with other rifles, a must. Stainless steel and billet aluminium have very different thermal coefficients and I find it strange that none of the manufacturers consider this and at best ' semi-float ' their barrels. Especially given the notion of a rifle adapted from an indoor to an outdoor sport. There are after all many hunting designs with free floating barrels. After trying a few different pellets over the chrono, it seems not to be too ammo fussy but this one has a particular dislike for Crossman Premiers, though there are different barrels on different versions, so not to be taken as gospel. I settled on 4.52 Webley Mosquito ' s as they just edged the consistency with a mere 7 fps spread over a string of 10. But that could just as easily be a comment on the quality of the ammunition. Accupel's and JSB ' s were a close second and third respectively. The options on the excellent trigger unit spoils you for choice having two rails to fix to. The first and second stage adjustments are quite easy to change and quite instinctive. I was a little surprised to find myself actually adding more weight in the release stage as it will go so light as to cause the occasional premature firing. The trigger position adjustments are fiddly though, but I suspect that has as much to do with sausage fingers as the size of the Allen bolts. On this note; I changed out most of the Japanned screws for stainless, something you might expect as standard for high end kit as the additional cost is negligible. As for the stock, with so much adjustment don ' t expect to get it right straight away. But try not to get confused. Change one thing at once and test the changes methodically. Once done I added an old Anschutz butt hook, which lines up perfectly with the slotted adaptor plate, (as it does the newer 700 version.) No coincidence I am sure.Shooting. The compensator system works a treat countering the action-reaction from the release of the hammer. It is totally devoid of any recoil or muzzle flip that I can detect. The grouping down range in ideal conditions is better than'at 50 yards over the knee. The lock time is noticeably quicker than any other PCP rifle I have ever used. I have no means of measuring this, but you develop a feel for it. I would say that it is around the same as a modern spring gun (without the bouncing internals.). So it is a forgiving rifle to shoot too. In fact I think it may make you lazy about the follow through if you become complacent about trigger control.Conclusions.So good it can only make you look bad in the field if you don ' t take the time to set it up properly. The excuses vanish with such a high quality and well engineered piece of equipment. The fact that modern materials are utilised in the shape of high pressure seals, rather than the usual O rings leaves the competition in the shade. Talking to long time owners, the most reliable FT rifle on the circuit.
