“Lack of support”

have used LCN for a number of years and up to 2 months ago would have rated them higher, but not any more. Two months ago I started getting authentication failures on sending emails, after 6 weeks of checking and replacing everything I could think of, and numerous phone calls, it was found that bots in Rusia and Hong Kong are trying to use my email address and causing the server to restrict the number of failed attempts and hence refuse to send my valid emails. I have been calling to find out what is happening to remedy this situation both to techincal support and the customer "lack of" service deprtment, all I get is empty promises that someone will call/email me but nothing happens. Beware they will be happy to take your money and give you a bit of support, but if you hit a problem they don't want to know - it's too much trouble.

“LCN.com cancelled my order and didn't pay back!”

I have ordered domain in order to transfer. I dealt with paying it and finally I paid, they recieved money. The following day, they cancelled my order and suspanded my account unexpectedly. Then, I contacted them via online chat, they said absurd things to me and they said my money would pay back. I am note sure if they can pay back me, and my domain will finish soon. I also left a ticket to them and it still hasn't been answered. They ignore me. I hope it will pay back me as soon as possible, in this case, I will need to cope with this.

“Beware Invalid SSL Certificates with FireFox ”

LCN sold me a SSL certificate and now it flags up on FireFox as invalid and implies my site will take peoples personal details and then blocks everyone including me!! I have a genuine site so this is damaging to my reputation. Contacted LCN who agree it is a distrusted certificate, nice they bothered to inform me about this before my website got a bad rap, and now I have to sort it out myself via a long convoluted reissue certificate which they send to and email address I no longer have, so I can't access it. And they do not reply back to your ticket if you tell them this. Sent another ticket with the correct email address but as of yet no response. Website is still flagging up as blocked by FireFox. As you can imagine I'm less than happy. My hosting runs out in April, guess who's going to move to new web hosting. I can take my money anywhere. Very unimpressed. Would not recommend them because of this. This kind of thing can damage your reputation. Go with someone who does not sell you SSL Certificates from distrusted suppliers and then runs off with your money.

“They don't care who they register domains for”

This company regularly allows malicious actors to register nearly identical domains to legitimate businesses and then lets them use their mail platform to send out bulk phishing/malware emails to the legitimate company. Be very wary of this company.

“Bad”

This buy far the worst company i have ever come across they hosted my site, you would be lucky if the site appers at all you have to restart the server every day in order for the site to apper, as for emails we did a test after sending 50 people received 8, i rest my case

It’s surprising to hear that you need to restart a server every day just for it to work. Based on what you’ve said I suspect there is most likely a memory or CPU limit being reached causing the server to crash.

I recently used LCN.com to set up a small business website. I can't overstate how quick and easy it was to get these setup. I had a few questions once I'd got started and the support guys there were phenomenal. If you're thinking of going to anyone else. Don't!!!

“Constant Email Outages”

LCN have had severe email issues over the past few months, my clients (over 150 of them) are now considering moving to other suppliers. it is unacceptable in todays age to have continuous problems like this. LCN need to invest in decent secure systems and not let there customers down like this. From a management perspective, I have noticed that most of these problems began when they changed the Anti Spam package, my clients don't like this as they have to check there email clients and the webmail portal to make sure that they don't miss any emails, so, they might as well receive all spam and use their own filters to clear them.

Please accept my sincerest apologies for any issues you've experienced while we dealt with the issue.

I can confirm that there should be no link between the anti-spam system we use (Mailguard) and any email issues over the last couple of months. The most recent issue was related to storage we use for our email hosting but is thankfully now resolved.

I can assure you that we have done everything we can to ensure that nothing of this scale is able to happen in future. Our system will be faster, more robust and have better monitoring in place as a result of this outage.

I'd love to be able to discuss this further with you but I can't find your details from what you've provided. Are you able to contact us using the below and ask for me please?

“Best of breed for DNS hosting”

I have used LCN for several years now, mainly as the domain name registrar for as many of my clients that I can transfer in; occasionally also for email hosting and forwarding. Over the years I have had many bad experiences with clients' domain registrars as I take over their DNS, web, and email disasters. I have always been grateful to return to LCN whose website is easy to navigate; where everything I need is presented in a straightforward manner and, on the few occasions I have needed it, their support team has always dealt with me in an intelligent, knowledgeable, and friendly manner.

“Kept my card details without permission”

I have used them in the past and they are expensive and don't offer as much as other companies. Recently my domain is up for renewal and I ticked auto years ago, but kept no card there on file. I recently renewed an .eu one and without asking they kept that card used on file and debited if for a service that was due to be renewed, but not for another 20 days. I was offered a discount 2 months ago of 10% which doesn't even cover the VAT, but they are dishonest in storing card information automatically, it should be a tick box like other companies where you choose to do it. They have now lost all my business and I will move all my domains as soon as I can.

“Very Expensive”

Beware LCN are having a laugh at your expense, please review other sites before you commit to these they are probably the most expensive hosting provider you will find and they claim to have the best customer service but this is also not true. I have had an account with them for over 8years and they want me to pay just shy of £100.00 inc Vat for the Multi host 2 service that allows me to have up to 10 websites listed with them, this has always been satisfactory for me until in 2012 when i started to look at other hosting providers as money was a concern? They provided me with what i thought was a substantial discount and i agreed to it as they assured me they liked to look after their long term customers. Now up for renewal again and i find i can get the same hosting service from many other providers at less than half the price? And that’s not even asking these other providers for their best prices. Alas LCN i feel i have been robbed over the last few years and you have taken advantage of me.

“LCN cannot forward emails properly”

LCN changed their software so that is started treating much of our incoming email as spam and refusing to forward it to us. They said if they forwarded it, Google would blacklist them. LCN said they could stop doing this if we paid them extra. LCN refuse to tell you if they have blocked an email unless you can send them a copy of it. If you could do that, there obviously wouldn't be a problem! We have now moved our email to Google and it is all working fine again. Google seems to have no problem with emails that LCN say would make Google blacklist them. I will never buy anything from LCN again.

I'm sorry to hear about the difficulties you've encountered with our email forwarding service. We've not been able to contact you about this using the details in this review – would you mind getting in touch via our contact form so we can discuss the problems you've had further?

Email forwarding is a great way to make sure you can manage all your email in once place; however it does have some drawbacks which you've highlighted in this review.

We don’t deliver a bounce back message for forwarded emails which have been discarded in order to protect our network from something called ‘backscatter’ – more information on this can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backscatter_%28email%29 . As a result, we need a few small details about the email that’s gone missing so we can trace it through our servers which handle millions of emails per day.

This issue wouldn't occur if email was hosted with us (as it is now with Google), which can be done free of charge as we offer one hosted email account per domain that’s held with LCN.com.

We’re really keen to discuss this further and hopefully we’ll be able turn around what sounds like a disappointing experience so far.

“Very good service in a world of Support mediocrity”

I can only write of praise for this lot, very good sales support and fast responses too. When I have come unstuck with the heavy duty technical aspects the crew have helped out enormously and the uptime and service has been very good too. Good selection of web building tools and services available too, I really like the dashboard where you can manage and track all aspects of your account too. Keep up the good work.

“Easy upgrading with LCN”

Following four years as a satisfied, LCN, Start-Up customer (very much a “hobbyist”), I needed more features; the lack of a database was proving to be limiting. Never complacent, I contacted several, UK-based hosting companies. LCN emerged as the clear winners in terms of both speed and quality of replies, as well as value for money. I'm now looking forward to two years of playing with the extra features available to Business customers. I recommend LCN without reservation.

“Scripting Support”

Generally had a good service from LCN and support staff respond politely and efficiently. However, over several years of use I have found LCN to be very slow at upgrading their scripting support on more than one occassion - so much so that it causes significant problems developing a site through Content Management Systems (CMS). For example, I use Joomla - one of the apps actually provided by LCN. However, the version of Joomla that can run with full functionality on the PHP version available through an LCN dynamic site is currently out of date and not supported by Joomla (version 3.0) or many of the providers of the extensions I use. Consequently I am left waiting or trying to find a work around rather than making good use of my time developing the site. It is extremely frustrating to see the latest version of Joomla and/or supported apps able to do exactly what I need but not being able to use them due to the months of delay experienced waiting for LCN to update their servers and hence scripting support. It is an area where LCN needs to make big improvements if it is not to loose clients. It really is not good enough to promote Joomla and not keep up to date with the scripting support required to maintain the a site.

I’m really sorry to hear of your disappointment with our services and specifically the speed at which we’ve updated them. There are a number of factors which may have contributed to such delays such as the complexity of our platform and the adverse effects such a change could have had on a large number of customers.

However, there is good news. We have now updated our PHP version to 5.3.28 which will meet the requirements of Joomla 3.0. We also put in place foundations to allow customers to switch between PHP 5.3.28 and PHP 5.4.4. The later functionality will be released in the coming weeks.

Hopefully these changes will help save you a lot of time and in the future give both yourself and our other customers more flexibility when using our hosting packages.

Ok that was sorted but when I then tried to proceed I found that MySQL was also significantly out of date - how frustrating. Apart from needing to install extensions that require a more recent version (5.1 +) I am also concerned that support for the version LCN is using MySQL 5.0.95 ended on 10th Jan 2012 - over 2years ago!!!! This may give rise to security risks. I raise the matter with support on 26th June and was told why the delay but that work was "in the pipeline" and that I would be informed as to timescales once these were known. Here we are two months later and no news, no change, no further feedback - not good enough.

“Excellent service for our charity website”

LCN have been hosting our (Save the Children Leamington, Warwick and Kenilworth branch) website for over a year now - at no cost to us - and it has worked brilliantly. A few days ago there was a technical problem with the site. The guys from LCN have responded to every one of my emails promptly, in a friendly manner and have fixed the problem for me. I would have no hesitation in recommending them to others.

Lcn is the most disgusting company I have ever dealt with in my life the product support is so poor and the service is really bad. I have my website on a auto renew function and it failed so LCN suspended my website at 0h10 on the 01/01/2014. Problems are never resolved and the always need to send the problems to second level support because the first level can only answer the telephone.
