Just got back from a very relaxing 2 day break at Down Hall and our 1st impressions as we pulled up outside were WOW!!! The hotel is situated in 110 acres of rural countryside and the peace and tranquillity of the place is fantastic. All staff were keen to make sure we had a great time and were very friendly. The bedrooms were very clean and tidy, large and airy and if you get a chance to have a room on the ground floor I would recommend this as patio doors open up onto the vast hotel grounds. The food is very nice but is expensive along with the wine, but you would expect this in such an establishment. Ideal location for a memorable wedding. My only criticism would be that the cooked breakfast was luke warm and when I pointed this out to the restaurant manager on the 2nd morning of our stay, my comments drew a stern look from him, even though he had checked the food with a temperature probe to indeed find that the cooked breakfast items were indeed luke warm and were changed immediately. No thanks from the restaurant manager for daring to point out this problem to him though. Apart from this little hiccup I would say that this is a superb hotel and would recommend for a relaxing stay if you are looking to get away for a couple of days R&R. We would definitely return to this hotel.
