Good Points: Appeased the geek in me whilst reimagining the film.
Bad Points: Product placement was at times blatent but thankfully not very often.
General comments: J.J.Abrahms has taken a sometimes ridiculed classic and made it cool again. Star Trek (2009) is a well rounded Sci Fi adventure with all the trademark directorial touches. With superb space fights and explosions that look great on the big screen this is taking the original characters from the 60's series and creating a new story arch. Well loved characterlike James T. Kirk, Spock (scarily similar), Bones (perfectly angry) and Chekov are brilliantly played by up and coming actors. The addition of Hollywood's vanilla boy Simon Pegg seems a little too comic and hammy at times. Hopefully he'll settle down for the next film. The inclusion of the legendary Kobayashi Maru test is a nice throw back to Wrath of Khan and there are several injoke moments for hard core fans (yes the ensign in Red dies...we we're all waiting in the cinema for that) and catchphrases and characterisations are nicely in place. All in all a great film for both Trekies and film fans. Better than MI:III and up there with Cloverfield.
