“Bionic machine - rebuilt!!”

Written on: 14/04/2013

I bought this machine in june 2009. So far it has had the display replaced as that stopped working, tricky to use a machine with an electronic display when it doesn't come on. Next the motherboard had to be replaced as it had total system failure and couldn't use the machine at all. The machine has got noisier and noisier and so last week it has had the drum bearing replaced. When the engineer was out last October fornthe motherboard I said about how noisy the machine was and was told it... (read more)

“It's been great for me”

Written on: 30/03/2013 by Drewbie

Thought I'd write this to give a balanced view. Bought from new 3 yrs ago and hasn't missed a beat from day one. Easy to use, big wash load, very quiet, great spin speed which leaves clothes barely damp, and washes well. These days drums are very big for efficient tumbling, the temptation is to overload it. If you do, the wash performance will obviously reduce. I know hotpoint come with a bad rep, but mines been faultless. The condenser dryer function works well too. (read more)

“Does Not Wash!”

Written on: 26/03/2013

Please do not waste your money on this washing machine (Hotpoint WMD960 Ultima)! With my previous washer, a Whirlpool, I could put washing in stained with just about anything and they would come out spotless. Not so with this one. I can guarantee anything with a mark on it will come out with a mark on it. I've had to resort to using prewash stain removers such as Vanish - which is very annoying as quite often you either forget that the stain's there or don't even know. Another problem... (read more)

“Lost hundreds of pounds worth of clothes due to this...”

Written on: 17/10/2012 by Trickyginge (1 review written)

I first bought this machine 7 years ago, along with the graphite coloured fridge and freezer, when moving into my new house. The machine tore holes in the clothes soon after buying, but despite having several engineer visits who duly conducted drum or seal replacements, we decided after 3 years to buy a new machine. Now call me stupid, but because I had the matching appliances, I bought the same machine again.....STUPID I hear you cry.....and you would right! Now, to be safe this time, I... (read more)

“Hotpoint WMD960 washing machine”

Written on: 09/10/2012

As i reported before this machine is good at it'a job except for the timer, this morning for instance i put the machine on to rinse through 4 short sleeve shirts and one lightweight jumper,on selecting temperature and wash programme the timer says 40 minutes,2.1/4 hours later the machine has completed the wash, cannot be right,Hotpoint engineers have had 3 goes at it, they say that's correct as the machine works out temperature etc and adjust itself accordingly.40 minutes to 2.1/4... “Not impressed - repeating problem, poor customer services.”

Bought May 2009 with 2 year guarantee from John Lewis. Worked well and liked large capacity. Feb 2012 developed intermitent fault and finally croaked and needed new circuit board. Cost me £105 from Hotpoint - who it turns out are now Indesit really - to have engineer our to replace,, but parts free under 5 yr parts guarantee. Just got back from holiday to find same fault has recurred. Indesit not interested but will send me an engineer for £79 and will give the money back if it turns out... (read more)

Bought thia machine in June 2009,pleased with it except for the timer, an economy wash at 30 degrees which the timer says 40 minutes takes 1.1/2 hours,Hotpoint engineers have looked at it twice one gave it an aspirin saying it needed to remove limescale,he was looking at it until his wife phoned on his mobile then he had to go to meet her down town, leaving the machine going for 2 hours,no improvement with timer, another engineer comes says the machine makes up it's own mind how long to run programme as it dependes on the temperature of the water going in etc!! they are due again this week but i am covered by insurance that if they can't fix it they replace it,i will see that they do.do not want a Hotpoint though.

I can't even begin to go through all the issues I had with this machine. Needless to say that I did get it replaced due to constant complaining, but even the replacement was rubbish. Therefore I made a song about it. (read more)

“The best appliance i have ever had”

Written on: 06/07/2012 by andy4555

I brought this machine about 6 months ago and it has 1 hell of a battering it can do about 6 loads a day and not had 1 problem with it. the size of the wash is fantastic and the spin is quiet. The only down side to the machine is that it if there is a small load in it it struggles to ballance. I would recommend this washing machine to anyone as it is a good machine, (read more)

“WMD960”

Written on: 31/01/2012 by saramurray

I bought this machine in April 2011, within 4 months I had an engineer out because it was not getting my clothes clean (especially my son's football kits - which were being washed immediately after him taking them off) It doesn't remove wet mud stains or marks from light coloured clothing. Have had 4 engineers out to date and still they tell me nothing is wrong with it, even though they have seen the washing with marks left on it and agree that something is wrong. Customer services... “Avoid Hotpoint at all costs”

Written on: 26/10/2011

I've had this for 2.5 years and have now decided the hassle is too much. Bought from John Lewis, so had a 2 year warranty. Firstly, water started coming out through the powder drawer. The Engineer said that this was a design fault and was replaced free of charge. It rinse also decided no to do the rinse cycle intermittently for a while and sometimes decided it didn't want to spin. Engineer couldn't find anything because it was intermittent. The seals around the door have gone black and... (read more)

“Designed to break”

Written on: 05/10/2011 by alexwoodqpf

Plastic paddles in the drum. First broke at 10 weeks. Replacements (£45) lasted 2 washes. Hotpoint very unhelpful. Not covered by the guarantee. If these were 'designed' by an engineer, I am convinced that they were designed to break. Why the paddles aren't integral with the drum (like they used to be) is beyond me. I'll never buy another hotpoint. (read more)

“Hotpoint WMD 960 should be avoided at all costs...”

Written on: 28/07/2011 by Stevieboy150 (1 review written)

My first machine broke never worked as it should but it took some time to be sure that it wasn't me or my wife using the wrong setting or something like that. When we reported it 30 days after buying it, we were told that it could not be replaced as it was over 28 days old, so an engineer was sent out to recify the fault. He came out and replaced some parts but it still didn't work! I phoned support again and they told me they would still not replace it and an engineer had to be sent. ... (read more)

“Read reviews on the Hotpoint WMD960 before I bought it...”

Written on: 31/01/2011

Read reviews on the Hotpoint WMD960 before I bought it and based on them, thought it would be ok. I mainly bought it because it was quiet and had a large drum. First of all, the noise that the machine makes when water drains out of it is enough to make us avoid using it whilst the TV is on in the living room! I have owned the machine for just over a year now and I have had engineers out three times regarding the machine not recognising enough back pressure and therefore it never seems to... (read more)

Written on: 27/07/2010

Bought mchine has it was a super silent machine, however due to the pump it makes an annoying noise when draining out, two months after owning the machine, the drum paddles have come off, rang hotpoint and apparently this is not covered in their 12 months warranty and they tried to sell me an extended warranty to cover this repair or it would cost £105! Replaced paddle for £12.99 but other paddles have now broken! Maybe the drum is too big for these paddles as they as only attached by... (read more)

Written on: 19/09/2009

I received my new machine on the 12th September, this replaced my previous LG 7Kg load machine.

So far the new Hotpoint is faster and quieter than my old LG model but in my opinion does not clean the washing as well as my old machine.

One thing to note is that Hotpoint recommends you only use liquid detergent rather than the tablets and powder I used in my old machine, maybe this is why I am not getting the same cleaning power?

I have had particular prolems with stain removal on the 40... (read more)

I purchased a Hotpoint washing machine WMD960 8kg from the online shop co-operative on the 04/04/2009, from the start to the finish it was excellent. I ordered the Hotpoint machine on a friday, the next day it was delivered. The delivery men unpacked it outside my house so they could send the packaging back for enviroment reasons and put the washing machine where i wanted it to go. It also has a A rating . Written on: 25/10/2009

The Hotpoint WMD960P washing machine is advertised as being very quiet and having a timer that shows you every step of the way through your wash.We purchased this product on both of these merits, unfortunately this is not true. The overhaul wash is relatively quite untill it comes to spinning and pumping out. the pump is extremely noisey,(like a continuous thump that echoes through your house) the noisiest that we have ever heard. When it comes to the timer, well that is a joke. The display can... (read more)
