The main weakness of this Rover 214 is that the headgasket goes very easily n quickly, u have to make sure the cars had it changed befor you buy it if the mileage is over 70000 miles which most of these type of cars have already covered. My 214sei had already done double that mileage when i bought it and had the headgasket done at 72000 miles. 2weeks after id bought the car it needed doin again but being a mechanic by trade i was able to fix myself with abit of help by a friend. I only purchased the car for 220 pounds (uk). The new headgasket set and stretch bolts timing belts n fan belts included cost around 200 pounds in all. But now its all fixed and its a wikid car i would defo recomend to a friend.

I bought my Rover 214 SEi 16V as a first car, it was second hand and had really high milage on it, but it cost £110 and it was only ever supposed to be an "interim" car while i saved up for a "decent" one. That was 4 years ago, and ive never been inspired to replace it. Ive driven it daily for the last 4 years, and although there are things which have gone wrong with it, its been incredibly cheap to repair (as breakers yards always seem to have parts in good nick for that model of rover). ...

I've had two rover 200s one a 1.4 the other a 1.6 honda engine. The 1.4 I paid £150 for and it lasted me four years. The 1.,6 died prematurely after a severe disagreement with a deer. For the money, no car is better. They are cheap to buy and run and have a cracking engine and good equipment levels. Miles better than an escort or astra of the same time, but has a few bad points. It's no longer up to date, feels old, don't get one without power steering

Bought a 214sei on an N reg (1996) its simply the best car I've ever had. nippy, smooth to drive & really economical. The half leather interior is comfy & smart to look at. If your thinking of buying one, think no more & just go out & buy one. You won't regret it.

A great looking car with a fast 1.4 twin cam injection engine, stylish half leather interior as standard, spacious and can be picked up in good condition with low mileage for under £500.

Cheap to run, and mine is still in good nick after I've had my M reg Rover for 2 and a half years now.
It's an excellent first car for me - not that 'nippy' but certainly built like a brick and makes me feel safe when on my own. It's comfortable enough (in the front anyway) and I've even moved all my 'student' belongings in one go, using the boot space and back seat!

I love the Rover 214. It is really comfortable, cheap to run and you can still have a bit of fun with it. The leather interior and electrics are better than what you find in a lot of modern cars. It is now starting to look a bit dated externally but for me this adds to the charm. People looking on dont know just what a good car I own and it costs nothing to keep on the road.

I currently run a 1994 5 door 214SEi, and simply put is the best car I've ever owned.

The Rover K-series engine is gutsy, loves to rev, and is economical on a run (45-50 mpg at 75-80MPH)

The seats are so comfortable its untrue, especially as a sciatica sufferer!

I have Electric Front Windows, and sunroof also remote central locking and immobiliser.

This is my third Rover and I would throughly recommend them to anyone.

I love the look of both of my cars and would recommend an older model to anyone looking to buy a Rover 214 SEi 16V as I have had two older ones and neither have given me serious trouble unlike the T Plate.

I paid £500 for a 94 M, 3 door, British racing green, 400 series front bumper, with 99,000 miles on the clock. I have since driven this car all over the country. 30+k added, and things are now only just starting to go wrong. Being honest, this is due to no fault with the Rover 214 SEi 16V; rather my lack of care and timing. Everything is "due" now. Cambelt, MOT, TAX and brake pads etc. However, it has never let me down, the most serious problem being a melted alternator plug. Cooling is cr ...

I've got the Rover 214 SEi 16V k series and I've had it for 6 years and it's been a great car to me. The only problems were the gear box and the head gasket went, but apart from that it's been very reliable and starts first time every time, even in the icy winter. I also feel it's a great looking car, even for its age it's still stylish now and turns heads.

Having driven the Rover 214 SEi 16V daily for 11 years in the UK and abroad, in cities, countryside and mountains, in all weather conditions, I feel able to comment.

Last week it passed its M.O.T. first time, and after covering the last 24,000 miles with only an interim DIY oil change, it remains 100% reliable. It's fun to drive and flies when revved, but by using the 'planned' driving system, the car is still on its original brake discs, and only the second pair of front pads. The clutch ...

My girlfriend has a Rover 200 and its nice to drive. She got it for £2500 and it had done 45,000. The only two problem's with it was the gearbox went and the head gaskit went. since then it has ran good. She had a 211 that was a good car for the size of it. she had it for about 2 months but it had to be written off due to a side on crash, the body work held but it still got wrote off. So if any1 say's they are no good they dont know what they are talkin about

I love my Rover 200, I have the 1.4 16 valve version and as a 1.4 it will cane most others of the same category of cars on the road. Around country lanes the steering feels light and provides me with confidence. It is very much a wolf in sheeps clothing, or as many people see it as in a grandads hat. The image is a problem to most people but i enjoy the number of people who underestimate the car, especially citroen saxo VTR drivers.
I have fitted a K-N air filter to the wonderful K series engin ...

I ahve been pleasantly surprised by the handling & performance of my 1998 Rover 214 SEi. Has a big car feel. Subtly sporty image.
