Its hard to fault the Swan pub / restaurant.
It's got that family run feel, very friendly, very efficient staff and very 'non london'.
The food is great too - expensive - but great (that expense being the reason I took one off the overall score)
There's a nice little enclosed seated area outside with a few tropical plants and some patio heaters, and inside is a fire for the winter along with the resident dog which wanders around the pub.
Its certainly my favourite pub in Richmond - very non pretentous and very relaxed and welcoming.
Its a bit of a trek from the station so doesnt attract a huge amount of the passing trade from people coming into Richmond, so tends to be more of a locals pub (a good thing in my view)

I returned to The Swan, Richmond last night and was really disappointed with the food.
I ordered the duck for my main course - the actual duck was fairly tasteless and non-descript but for some unknown reason they had plonked an apple turnover (yes, an apple turnover....) onto the plate.
Quite what that was about I have no idea. Initially I assumed they'd put it on by mistake - but the friendly waitress confirmed that it was part of the dish. Er why?
If they're trying to be the Fat Duck I'm afraid to say it failed miserably. The two things simply don't go together in any way, shape or form.
Really weird. Really disappointing.
Hopefully it was just a blip and they'll be back to better standards next time
The actual pub, staff and beer was still excellent - just the food had gone down hill considerably
