Good Points: Easy to use, excellent photo performance, robust, great features for a camera this size.

    Bad Points: Reliability

General comments: I have had my Fuji Finepix F401 for some 6 years and though I haven't used it a great deal, I have taken some fantastic photographs with this camera. It is very easy to use and the performance is excellent. Battery life is about average for this type of camera, but it doesn't take long to charge up again. It will take small videos too, but without sound. It is a nice looking camera with a good feel and does feel more robust than some cheaper alternatives.
Unfortunately there some seem to be a reliability issue with the CCD. Mine has lasted 6 years (though has had minimal use),but many others have written about much earlier failure. This alone would render the item as not recommended.

i would really like to get my Fuji Finepix F401 repaired. This was the first digital camera the f401 I brought the quality was great we had it for about three years until it went wrong but at the same time it had taken thousands of photos of our children so i cant really complain as those memories are not replaceable.

When the first model i had of this camera started taking dodgy (black, green and purple patterned) photos i brought another one from ebay as i was used to the camera and liked the quality of the images it had given me in the past. A couple of months later the new model started doing exactly what the old one was doing. now i have a baby on the way and no decent camera or money to collect all those fond memories with.thumbs down for fuji.

We had five of these Fuji Finepix F401 for our company and within 4 years all but one of them has packed up with a red/green distortion to every photo. None of them have been used extensively so I wonder if this is a design fault?

We're using the last one now but I don't suppose it will last much longer.

    Definitely NOT recommended!

Purchased my Fuji Finepix F401 in 2003, was never abused, dropped, used rarely, etc.., and now recently the display started malfunctioning, and when a picture is taken it's all black with a green swirl. My warranty is up so no coverage. Quite a few other people seem to have the same problem.
    FUJI NEVER AGAIN!

After two years the CCD died on my Fuji Finepix F401 digital camera. All I get is a white display on the LCD monitor. It will still display images already on the Smartmedia card, but will no longer take pictures.

I got the Fuji Finepix F401 as an xmas present for us from sons 18 months ago, the view frame at back of camera shows everything in red. I took it to a camera clinic for diagnosis and cost of repair. I was told only second one she had seen, the cdv or something had gone and it would cost £140 to put right. Too much for to have repaired afraid it would happen again camera is out of guarantee year we have never abused it, won't be buying Fuji again, disgraceful.

Maybe we just got a bad one but after two years of pretty minimal use, the screen at the back of the our Fuji F401 started looking like an out of tune TV. If you took a picture that's what it took a picture ... can this be fixed & at what price?

Maybe we just got a bad one but after two years of pretty minimal use, the screen at the back of the our F401 started looking like an out of tune TV. If you took a picture that's what it took a picture of. Any pictures that we'd taken before the problem we could see with no problem.

So now we're faced with a £100 bill for a two year old camera. Not impressed.

I bought a Fuji Finepix F401 over a year a go and has not let me down once. It is slightly bulky, but presume newer versions will be smaller.

The Fujifilm Finepix F401 Zoom offers good tonal balance. Shutter speed displayed in viewfinder before you shoot. Like the 'first 4/last 4' feature - we were trying to photograph a surfacing dolphin and were the only digital to get decent shots!

I really really wish there was manual focussing available! sometimes it can't find focus on infinity and you get blurred pictures.

I bought this camera a christmas time and have been very pleased with the results. The picture quality has been excellent apart from the moving images which tend to be blurred. The size of the camera makes it very portable. The only other negative points are the time taken to take the shot, (ie from when you hit the button there is a slight delay - sometimes missing that vital moment) and the limitations of having only 2 mega pixels. After a lot of use, I have begun to think - I wish I had gone ...

The videos taken are very clear often a lot clearer than I would expect from bad weather conditions. Glare is no problem and the clarity overall brilliant.

So, I went out to purchase my first digital camera. After much research I decided on the Fuji f-401. It is a very cool, feature packed, easy to use camera. First time buyers will appreciate the ease that you get started. Setting up the dock was a breeze, and figuring out how to actually get your shots into the computer well explained in the manual. The quality of the shots are excellent and I haven't even touched on what this thing can really do.(movies, video conferencing, theres a ton of stuff ...
