Sony Ericsson W508 review: Above the fold
14 Apr 2009

Summary
The Sony Ericsson W508 walks and talks midrange though by no means does it keep a low profile. What we have here is the full Walkman package at a bargain price and the rest of the W508 specs may...

Pros
Quad-band GSM and 3G with HSDPA support ; 3.15 megapixel camera ; 2.2" 256K-color TFT display with 240 x 320 pixel resolution ; Secondary monochrome OLED external display ; Scratch-resistant surface for both displays ; Touch sensitive external music ...

Cons
Camera doesn't have auto focus or LED flash ; Low-grade video recording (QVGA@15fps) ; No web browser screen auto rotate ; No document viewer

Verdict
A true Walkman at heart, the W508 takes after the Sony Ericsson W980 in many ways and even adds a dash of color to the Walkman experience - in fact, the StyleUp covers make it a regular chameleon

Sony Ericsson W508a
5 Jun 2009

Pros
Internal and external displays, gesture control, TrackID, Walkman software, 1GB M2 card included

Cons
Touch sensitive music controls aren't responsive enough, keypad is flat and uncomfortable, no 3.5mm headphone jack

Verdict
The Sony Ericsson W508a follows a similar lead to previous, mid-range Walkman mobile phones. It's relatively inexpensive, best described as solid and has an excellent display. It won't wow you with its features list, but it doesn't need to.

The W508's display shows up to 262 K colors in the 240x320 pixel resolution (2.2 inch diagonal, 34x46 mm, TFT). This screen size allows it to accommodate up to 9 text and 4 service lines in most modes (plus it's possible to cram in more information ...

Summary
sony ericsson w508 review: The W508 is a great phone for listening to music and playing games, but it's yet another Walkman phone from Sony Ericsson that doesn't really standout from the pack.

Samsung Tocco Ultra S8300
30 Mar 2009

I have only just received my Samsung Tocco Ultra as an upgrade and initially first impression was wow! However I think it will take a lot of getting used to, the touchscreen is a little hit and miss and sometimes when scrolling up and down it goes far too fast and you shoot past what you were wanting. Yet other times you are pressing an icon and nothing happens.
I would be very interested to hear what other people think to theirs.

Sony Ericsson W880i
2 Mar 2009

Sony Ericsson W880i phone was fine for about a year, but suddenly everything seemed to go wrong with it. I work on call and this phone has caused me to miss a callout when I've suddenly found it switched off, and switch it back on to find countless voicemails & texts. Not good.

LG Prada KE850
21 Aug 2008

The LG Prada KE850 phone is complete and utter rubbish. Unreliable and useless. Mine has been back for repair 3 times and the touch screen is now totally dead. The phone is only 6 months old but has hardly been used, less than 100 calls.

Samsung U600
9 May 2008

The Samsung U600 is a very nice phone to look at but a horrible phone to use! I have to charge mine every second night and at the moment am unable to send a text message as it freezes every time i try and do so! The camera is slow too - once the picture has eventually taken (about 3 seconds after you pressed the button) the image is blurry because no one can ever pose for long enough! Roll on December when i can get a Nokia!
