Have just come across these reviews and I only wish I had seen them before I hired a van through this company to go to Glastonbury a few years ago. It was a very distressing experience. Alarm bells rang when we picked it up - we were told not to use the toilet/shower, the main reason we had hired it! The heating didn't work and we only had cold water anyway. We booked a motorhome 2 days ago for a week in september 2013, paying a deposit. We reeived a docusign contract linking to a precontract for hire charges. The prices are very high and a complete rip off, £495 to replace wing mirror glass being just one example.They even tell you they will just take all costs from credit card details you must supply to hire. This company should be investigated - there are numerous bad reviews, do read them. As it operates as a franchise, there would appear to be a complete absence of any accountability, and the head ofice would seem to share this diminished sense of responsibility towards its customers.. We had the most dreadful experience with this company DO NOT USE them. After an awning ripped while we were at Glastonbury £2000 was taken from my credit card for replacement and repair of a scratch to paintwork. They sent me a quote of £650 for a week to pay. I gladly completed a credit card form. Without telling me anything they have debited more than £2000 on my card!!! When I saw that I call them and then they told me that I had to pay a deposit of £1250!!! It is now more than 1 month that I gave back the motorhome and I am still waiting for the return of my deposit! I called them 8 times today but nobody answered. I agree. Avoid!!! They send you a credit card authorisation form. They only give you the rental price for the period. You sign it and then they debit your card with many other fees, deposits, etc.... When you complain they say that you should read the terms and conditions. When you read them you understand that there are a lot of "hidden fees"... To recuperate your deposit, you can wait a long time! and you need to call them many many times before to get your money back. I have been insulted over the phone. I have been promised many times my money back into my card account without anything. I had to ask my lawyer to send them a letter and I received my deposit back after again two more weeks!... Avoid at all costs if you do not want to be disappointed.

Hi,
Fortunately we have now received our Bond deposit but I had to use the threat of legal action which seemed to work. If you need a copy of the e-mail we sent them which listed all the payments they had taken from us and how we felt they came up with these figures then do let me know. We still can't work out exactly how they came up with the amount that they took which was for the European travel and unlimited mileage allowance but they seem to add VAT on to everything, then add Admin charges, then VAT on the Admin charges - don't think the left hand knows what the right hand is doing half the time.
Our greatest concern is that they will try and take more money from us in the future without any explanation, which is what happened to someone else who has written a review here. We have spoken to our credit card company and they can't put a stop on anything that might happen in the future which is all a bit of a worry.
I also wrote an e-mail saying how extremely upset I was by the tone of her emails and how ill it was making me - so perhaps you ought to explain how you and your wife are becoming ill with the fact that your money, which you desperately need, is still being held by them

First the good part, the van was great. But, The company abuses use of your credit card, making deductions which are not agreed. Despite extra insurance costs, this does not cover many extra charges should you have an incident. They deduct first then ask/notify. In my case 3 months after return of vehicle. They will not seek a fair & amicable solution. There are pages of conditions, all biased towards company. There are many fixed admin charges that they "reserve the right to levy" & they do... Christhornhill, I am in full agreement with your review.
In our case, Mortorholme Ltd are trying to charge us for a chipped windscreen from a motor home rental that took place in August 2011, 17 months ago. The first correspondence we had regarding this was a final demand from a debt collection company. For £498.
Calls to Motorholme Ltd are fruitless, the woman "who deals with this is away from her desk"
Suffice to say, we will not be paying any of the money. I have demanded to see any alleged correspondence, from the past 17 months, sent by them, regarding this matter and my Solicitor is likely to be instructed within the next week. Additionally, in October 2012, Motorholme Ltd took £394 from my Visa account. This was unauthorised and subsequently refunded, by my bank. I would urge anyone to use another, reputable company. Otherwise your holiday memories are likely to be soured.

how did you pay deposit, if it was credit card your bank can follow up, but basically I am finding that if companies are unscrupulous as this one they can take money from your account until somebody takes them to court & that is very laborious. I have blocked the credit card & got a new one to ensure they can't do it any more to me, but doubt I will get my £680 back

Check company house for the name of the directors, cant publish here as it will not be allowed. call the company secretary.
Organising a claim through the small claims court is very easy and can be done on line via the government gateway website.
I suggest finding the directors names and call stating your legal action that will follow

We bought 2 motorhomes from Motorholme in January 2011. Having read the recent reviews we can fully understand your disappointment as we believed and trusted Motorholme who convinced and assured us that this would be a profitable venture. However like yourselves we have been badly let down in 2012 with no bookings at all and no way of paying the finance for the vehicles. In support of your complaints we can confirm that every hirer of our vans through Motorholme said they would never hire from them again.

I agree, first they tried to take £1000 off my card as cash deposit, without telling me, then when I agreed to & paid for the extra insurance to reduce this & had a knock, they deducted £680 off my debit card 3 months later withour warning, claiming they had costs themselves. They then agreed the issue should have been knock for knock. I am still trying to get refund!!!

I booked a motorhome through this company to go to Glastonbury with a written guarantee that we could cancel upto end of April 2013 if we didnt succeed in getting tickets. I notified them immediately that we would like to take the option of a full refund as we werent successful getting tickets. I totally agree !
Motorholme are a disgrace. I hired one of their vehicles which I must admit was great. BUT !!!! I paid a £1250 insurance bond , I returned the vehicle undamaged, they have now had my £1250 for 2 months.
They keep fobbing me off telling me it will be paid but I have had enough and will register it as a dispute with my credit card company.

I agree, they behaved similarly with me, made arbitrary deductions from my card, even months after hire was over . I consider them unethical, they should at least explain beforehand & allow time to dispute

recently returned from three day hire with this company. Motor home was lovely. Before we took control of the van it was inspected with us and any damage was noted (inside and out) scratches were noted, as well as missing lamp shades inside van and any other minor details were duly noted. I have never in my life come across such a disgusting, unprofessional company. Once they have your money they DO NOT CARE. I hired a van for three days for my family and took out their insurance policy along with excess cover BEWARE THIS DOES NOT COVER WING MIRRORS AND MANY OTHER ITEMS. I entirely agree, had similar experiences, they deduct arbitrarily from credit cards, even long after, giving no opportunity to discuss or dispute. Not sure how banking system lets them get away with it. would like to form a group to take up these issues with them, write if interested

I am interested. They still owe me about 1100 pounds. They (or possibly the owners of the motorhome) forged my wife's signature to "prove" that we agreed that we caused a bunch of damage that we did not cause.

My bank is submitting a counter claim for £680 which was deducted from my debit card without informing or obtaining permission 3 months after I received a letter saying there were nil charges that were not insurable. I had an accident but responsibility was not proved, some brakes problem was suspected, but, anyway, as I had taken out & paid for additional insurance I assumed I was covered, but they came back with all sorts of admin & loss of business costs.

Please do not use this company! Our initial quote for 6 days was £722. In total we finally paid over £1000, and that is not including all the charges my bank charged me for International Transactions (Australian). They took a £1250 bond which they kept for 28 days after the hire period was over and then only returned £1205 of it. I will now write all the surcharges, including original hire quote. Loads of extra costs added to the bill 3 days before pick up. Couldn't cancel without loosing all our money. Written a letter of complaint. Did not answer our questions, just a stock response. the van was OK, but had to fix the heating myself and fill up the gas bottles!
