    Thought I should add my views regarding this insurance company.
    I took my car insurance with this company last September, and all went fine with that. Unfortunately for me I made a fault claim shortly after switching to this company, and apart from the various claims processes taking a little more time than I would expect, everything on my side was sorted out. The damage to my car was minor so only the third party claim was made; I assume his car got repaired and all is well.

    The only reasons why I would not recommend or potentially renew with this company are.
    1) No third party cover to drive another car. (Mot time will make this a real hassle)
    2) Slight doubt in my mind if I was to make a higher value claim, they might not pay out.

    My conclusion would be not to write off this company because on all the bad reviews you might read. Search any company and you will find negative comments. And remember it is a relatively new player in the car insurance world, so mistakes can a do happen with a new business.

    Hope this might helps others make a more informed decision over their car insurance renewal.

    Chaotic, they lost my policy details, car got towed as not on Insurers database. I tried to post a negative review on Moneysupermarket.com where I got the quote from. They wouldn't publish it probably because they get commission every time someone buys a 1st central policy through them.

    Terrible, terrible only wished I read the reviews before. Been trying to get through to report a claim for weeks now. Can get through to sales no problem,so happy to sell to you, but require their assistance no chance! Sales cant/wont transfer you to claim line & on hold for ages until you have to give up.     Unbelievably poor customer service. Car Insured on 04.10.2009. Stopped by Police on 25.11.2009 and fixed penalty notice issued for No Insurance as Ist Central hadnt updated the Motor Insurance Database. 5 telephone calls 3 Emails and a Special Delivery Letter later they still havent updated the Database THREE WEEKS LATER. All I have is a holding response. Wouldn't insure a wheelbarrow with these clowns

    My partner has a policy with 1st central, she had an accident 20th october 2009, reporting the accident was the easy part, 15minutes on the phone and we finally got through, its all down hill from there, after 4wks of hearing nothing off 1st central, we phoned them, was kept on hold for over an hour, finally got to speak to someone, who didn't have a clue what he was talking about, (couldn't find this information, couldn't find that information), even with the claim number!!!!! after many,many p ...

    Beware do not use this company!!!

    You do not get third party cover driving another car.
    I have not claimed in over 15 years so when i filled in the details on confused.com i ticked max no claims 9 years.

    Directlines ncb certificate issued said 6 years which is there maximum period.

    i have now received an email requesteing an additional £40 premium.

    I signed up with this insurer because it seemed the best option from the price comparison site I was looking at. When I contacted my current insurer to cancel the continuation of my current policy, they gave me a better offer than the quote from 1st central, so I duly agreed to continue with them, and cancel the 1st central policy i'd just signed for.     I initially moved my insurance policy to 1st Central as they were the cheapest option, but was aware of the whole 'get what you pay for' scenario - was just hoping I'd never have to claim.     Don't provide 3rd party cover on other car usage. When I went to cancel, prior to the policy coming into force and within the cooling off period, they charged a cancellation fee. Phoned up and they said they would refund and haven't. Going to complain to the FSA. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

    Terrible.
    If you have to claim it is almost impossible to speak to anybody.
    In the event of an accident, they are only interested in the courtesy car as this is where they make their money.
    If you question there internal processes, their handlers become very hostile
    Steer clear of this company regardless of quote!
    Shoudl you have an accident, you cannot rely on their appalling customer service.

    I have read all the reviews and do not recognise the company that I have just been dealing with.

    I took my policy (which was by far the cheapest I could find) out at the beginning of August then realised a few months later (mid Nov) that one of the details needed to be corrected. Phoned them up and got through to the automated options immediately and then was transferred to a operator within about 20 seconds.     Warning. Avoid this company if you have any sence at all. I thought I had had a bit of luck. got my docs by email and had paid foir basic breakdown with smart assist, tho never heard of. Got cover for europe driving and full home start policy. On reading some of these reviews I was woried. On checking it was clear that someone had cut my cars value and miles I did per year.     I insured online with this company on a fully comp basis and paid my deposit, being automatically that documents would arrive in the post, they did not. I contacted the company to ask if the direct debit had been set up correctly as I had received no email confimation, I was told that it had and that documents would arrive in the post for my signature, they did not.     Withdrew money from my bank account 5 months into the policy for no reason at all. Only noticed when i checked a bank statement for something else. Have reported to bank and insurance company. First central are Thieves - AVOID.

    i took out insurance with first central as they gave me the cheapest quote saving me about 100 pound, everything was fine until someone crashed into us, since then they have lost the car, lost all the documents i had sent to them, lost my tax disc the salvage company had sent them, denied having phone conversations with me, told us we would recieve 2000pound as the car was written off then decided we weren't gettin any of the money back as apparently we had filled in the insurance details wrong ...

    Have experienced real problems with this company, when you call up, you can wait around half and hour for them to answer. They collected my car 4 days after the accident and I waited 8 days for my hire car (after paying an additional £25 on the policy for this). No one has contacted me from this company apart from one email, I am constantly calling each day to find out what's happening with my claim. Two weeks later still waiting for their intial offer.
