Worst customer experience ever! Don't answer your questions - won't put you through to a Manager. When I persisted and said 'so you are refusing to put me through to a Manager?' the girl relented finally and transferred me. Seriously bad - no empathy with the customer whatsoever. Their online security is so tight it won't even let you get to your own money. Every time I try to log on it claims "this is an unrecognised computer", and then makes me jump through hoops involving text messages to get a one-time logon. Then when you do get in, their site just freezes. In the end I've given up and gone elsewhere - Tesco banking is just too much trouble. (read more)

My card was used by a person not known to me for a payment of £5400 on the 19th. of April. I realised this when looking online and phoned Tesco immediately. They cancelled the card and promised to sort it. I have rung them five times and they always promise to ring back but they don't. Now the bill for the month has come through and the £5400 is still on it. If they take this payment from my bank account I shall be seriously overdrawn but they don't care and they don't contact me. I have online accounts for 5 different banks but this one has got to take the cake...unavailable most of the time, doesn't recognise previously saved debit cards, if you use a computer cookie cleaner, it has to re-send a coded message to your phone everytime you need to do anything online..JUST NOT WORTH IT. Turned down. Credit rating excellent (999) + salary . Had to quickly apply elsewhere without any problems whatsoever. Secured a loan at same low rate. Its a pain as it never looks good that they have searched your credit file. Waste of time. They are in the wrong business here (read more)

So I took a 14 month interest free tesco credit card - I choose to spend the £1400 limit and set up £100 a month to clear before the interest starts - The minimum payment was closer to £25 - At christmas I lower my DD to the minimum £25 yet they are now trying to tell me I have £75 arrears - It was my choice to pay extra and I will be doing so again now that christmas is over yet they are adament I have broken my agreement/ should show as late on my credit file ! I set up a Mastercard with Tescos because of their interest free offer, however I really wish I hadn't bothered. From the outset it was a nightmare, with Customer Services giving me wrong information. Specifically I was told that I HAD to have entered my own 6 digit security code when I set up my account. Beware opening internet account. Cannot get any money out again until they send you a letter (takes 10 days). You send it back in their 2nd class envelope and they process, takes 7 days and counting. Non of this is clear on their site. Tesco is the worst internet banking site to use of the 4 I have tried to date. Long waits to speak to anyone, get info at their call centre. (read more)

When you ring them depending who you speak to you get a different answer to your question.Rather than say they don't know and will get back to you they just make it up causing total confusion. Avoid this ban like the plague! (read more)

Tesco advertise 5.2% APR for loans. This puts them top of comparison websites and must result in a very high volume of applications. As an applicant you might have the best credit record possible (as we did) - doesn't matter. You will patronisingly be told that, 'Were delighted to tell you we’ve approved your loan in principle.' They are AWFUL - customer service is really bad. they are alway hanging up on ya when they dont know how to deal with your question. they alway telling me my bank accounts dont exist, even when i give correct sort and acc numbers. worse bank ever. need to stop been lazy and open acounts elsewhere. Yesterday,Wednesday 9/1/13 I reccived a new Tesco mastercard, I called the help line to validate same and was told this was unnecessary. Today went shopping at Tesco in Sale,got to the checkout, unable to pay for shopping. Cad was "blocked", however helpful member of staff enabled me to contact the help line again using store telephone. Could I also point out when I phoned your help line (0845 etc) was kept waiting for about 20mins to speak to someone, a rather expensive experience. (read more)

I totally agree. Here I am, weeks later, still trying to get my replacement clubcard plus activated. I'm on the point of asking them to close my account and send me a cheque for my balance, but they'd probably say it was too great a security risk to send a cheque to the customer's home address. What is going on with these people?

I would not recommend Tesco Bank at all. Although their individual staff are very nice and helpful, unfortunately that doesn't make up for the series of failures and issues I've experience in trying to open a simple online savings account. They lost part of my ID, then told me it was my fault for sending the wrong type, fair enough did pay to replace it, but 3 out of 5 letters they claim to have sent me when I've rung them to find out what's going on have never arrived. Thought I would check on my account as it has been a year since I last looked at it. Only has a small amount left in just to keep it open as they dropped their interest rates shortly after opening the account a couple of years ago. Tried to log in as normal only to find out that they have changed the login procedure since my last visit. can never log in without wasting my damn time with enter this, enter that, we don't recognize your computer, sorry there's an error contact us etc etc Today I tried 4 times to get sent the stupid 1 time code thing to my mobile phone, the message online said 'code sent', but I never received the stupid code, and yet yesterday it was working. I cannot believe how long I've been trying to get my new replacement clubcard plus card activated by telephone. I pay into this account monthly, so this situation is frustrating, as I am unable to access my own funds. Rubbish customer service they don't care. I made a payment of nearly £2000 over the phone to tesco to pay my tesco credit card . When it came to the next month they told me I had not paid the money and there was no record of the call and new balance for the month was over £5000 and there was a late fee payment. I have had a similar problem which is still unresolved.
I made a payment using my debit card over the telephone in July 2012 but no record appears on Tesco's system but a payment is clearly shown on my bank statement as going to Tesco.
I have called Tesco four times and my bank twice since mid august but Tesco never call me back to advise on any progress.
I will never use the telephone payment route again as I do not trust this system.

I settled a personal loan with Tesco bank seven months ago (December 2011). I found a great deal on a new personal loan today (09-07-12) which would have kept my current monthly loan payments and loan term exactly the same once my current loans had been consolidated and left me with seven thousand pounds'extra'. I've just tried pay my credit card bill on-line,the layout of the site is awful and would challenge even the most IT literate of people. It took several clicks before I got to a password log in page but that was more by guess work than knowing where I should go as nothing is obvious. It took three attempts to add a new debit card and go through the payment screens. Applied for a loan, accepted in principal, received all the documents on which the APR was completely different to what I have applied for. Nevermind, I have accepted that as I was desperately needing that loan. They asked me for a bank statement as a final step of my application. For the next week never heard from them. On 10.05.12, I applied to Tesco Bank for a one year bond and stressed that I had funds on current account that needed a home URGENTLY. The online application would not process and I contacted them. After telephoning their helpline several times, I did eventually receive the papers. I agree with the adjective 'useless'. When I contacted Smile to acknowledge receipt of a new debit card and to make some enquiries about my accounts, I didn't have to jump through hoops to access my a/c information, as Smile gave me different options to choose from. Tesco Bank, on the other hand, seemed hellbent on making the verification process as painful as possible. In my experience, it has scant respect for its customers' time and we all know that time is money.

Opened an online savings account with Tesco about 6 months ago. Firstly they lost my initial payment cheque and in my opinion it is no small thing to lose £43000! My wife just handed me her Tesco credit card statement, my payment of over £2000 is missing. She had to go out as she had an urgent appointment. I phone them and they won't even tell me if the payment was received even though I can tell them every payment I have made to her account every month for years, she looks after our kids at home so I have to pay it off every month. Requested a credit card online, was accepted and documents were send to me to complete. I completed these immediately and posted back. A few weeks later I was sent the same documents again saying nothing had been received and my application would be cancelled if I didn't respond! I sent everything back again and a week or so later received the credit card. I opened an account with them some years ago, to be fair I have not used it much but had funds in there in reserve. Three weeks ago I got a letter saying that as a result of my request the had closed the account. I have now telephoned several times always lots of promises but never anything done. They said they would refer it to the fraud team.......guess what I am still waiting to hear from them 3 weeks on??? Customer service terrible, no longer shop with Tesco because of this. (read more)

I have operated this account successfully by post/in store over the last two or three years. Recently, I was invited to register the account for a new electronic access facility. This has proved difficult, but eventually, electronic access was set up. Utterly useless customer service, I had to go through ridiculous hoops to get my money out, especially as they have a policy of not sending you a new card if you haven't used the saving account for more than 6 months. Isn't that what saving is about - put the money in and save it? Doh.

I have a savings account with this bank. It is simple to use and they extended the intoductory interest rate offer without being asked. Transfers to my current account happen instantaneously. I have had to phone the call centre once or twice and they were helpful (and the call centre was in the UK).
I also have one of their credtit cards, which I use to shop at Tesco and earna few extra clubcard points. Again, no complaints about this at all.
Tesco provide no-frills products and good service.

Just successfully opened Online Account with Tesco - after 2 frustrating attempts with Halifax (own bank) and Santander.
I was surprised and impressed - I thought Tesco would be the experts on BOGOFF, but so far have proved very professional and user friendly.
Well done Tesco. You'll have my vote every time!

I have phoned Tesco telephone banking with queries such as applying for an overdraft, adding another account name, applying for life insurance and everytime the person has been able to answer my questions fully.
I have never had to hold for more than 2 minutes
I wish that other banks would take a leaf out of tesco telephone banking and train their staff up to this standard and not have long winding menus that make your finger sore from pressing all the options

Credit rating 999! Your a fool, who said your credit rating was 999? Experian no doubt. Well they're not in the business of giving people loans so the way they assess your credit rating vastly differs by how a bank does it. All banks assess customers differently, one declined you and one accepted you. Move on n stop greeting.
