I have used this phone for about 5 years now and have no complaints about it. I am a light cell phone user who only makes occasional calls. However, I do carry this cell phone (in case of emergencies) all the time. I have carried it for years and dropped it multiple times but nothing has broke and it still works. The Samsung SCH 3500 has been a wonderful phone for me! I've had the thing for about five years now, and just recently had a mechanical issue. It has been in a lake more than once, it's been dropped countless times (several times on concrete), and has gone through all the usual wear-and-tear and come out smelling like a rose! I've had my Samsung SCH 3500 mobile phone for 3years and never had a problem with the flip top or its performance. I've used it for work at construction sites and have dropped it several times from different ladder hieghts and even in a bucket of water by accident. After drying for a couple of hours the phone was back to normal. I'm finally breaking down to buying a new phone with more features and can only hope the new one can take the beating I've given this one. The only real problem... (read more)

I know 4 people who have owned this Samsung SCH 3500 mobile phone (including myself) and three of us have had the same problems. The flip-top wears out very quickly and does not engage the connection needed to make or receive calls. The only way the phone would work is to use the earpice, thereby circumventing the flip-top. All of us had the problem in 13 months or prior and guess what ... Samsung denies any reportyed problems with this particular model. None of us will evr buy a Samsung... (read more)

I Have the same problem with my phone. I would like to know, since the warranty is over, if someone had tried to open the phone to repair it. I have asked a service technician at a service center and he told me that this flip top is connected to the earpiece by wire instead of contacts, and that is why the connection broke. If someone have the service manual or can tell me the steps to open the unit and be able to repair it, I could try to fix this.

The little magnet falls out of the slot below the earphone and the flip then fails to be detected. treat with a separate magnet to see if it switches on and off as the magnet is touched to the phone and removed. It's hard to find one small enough to be glued in the little slot, and still be strong enough to work, but I did it and have used it for 2 years since repair.

Sprint insurance plan replaced (at a cost of $35 + $3.00/Month) my defective Nokia 6185 with a Samsung SCH-3500 mobile phone. I cancelled my Sprint service after two months because I was not using the phone. In the mean time I bought a StarTac with Verizon service. Couple months later I gave the Samsung phone to my mother and she established service. After a month of using it just fine, the phone now is unusable. It keeps dropping calls immediately. you are very right about the service plan as well as how much of a piece of trash the phone is...... run from the samsung 3500....... the one I have refuse to stay in the on position....it keeps cutting off....... what a peice of garbage...... I paid my $35 also.... I will file a small claim against the company in court ......... I have plenty of time on my hands.......... equipment rip-off would be a better name for the plan.......

With all the bad press and reviews about the Samsung 3500 mobile phone, one would think that a company recall from Mother Samsung in Seoul would be in order. Customer satisfaction seems not to be their highest priority...otherwise I would have received some notice, or the company may have made a press release to RECALL and/or fix for NO CHARGE. Seems Samsung is little more than a monopoly that flies by night. SprintPCS need to research their decisions in future regarding decisions in buying... (read more)

My Samsung 3500 mobile phone developed a typical problem with earpiece. Samsung wants minimum $75.00 just to look at it only 3 months out of warranty.
Since i have an electronics background i decided to tear it apart and repair it myself. I removed the flip piece looking for broken wires none found. After putting it back together i decided to see if i could remove piece holding speaker in. After careful prying i was able to loosen the glue and remove cover, inside is a quarter size speaker....

The Samsung 3500 phone looks good, feels good and it sits well in your hand. My problem with the phone has been that the speaker does not work after one year. The connection to the speaker fails after one year. It's because of a bad design by Samsung. After some number of times opening and closing the speaker, the connection fails. (read more)

Whenever I compare reception on my Samsung 3500 to someone on the Sprint network with a different phone, I find I have worse reception. But that's not the problem with this phone. The flip earpiece gets loosened rapidly, within months of use, and can't be fixed. I have owned a Samsung 3500 for 2 years now, the first one had to be replaced with another while still within warranty, and the second one developed the same problem within 6 months. When the earpiece is loosened, the dial pad doesn't work too.
NEVER buy this phone....and if you have one, try to give it away for free...IF you get lucky and there are takers.

I work for a wireless provider and I get more complaints on this cellphone from customers than any other cellphone. I still have mine, but I only use it for backup just in case if anything happens to my Kyrocera 3035. When I was using my 3500 on a regular basis, it worked great with a earbud since the earpiece would fade out or break up on me. Don't buy this phone. If you use it regularly, it WILL fail you. There is a design flaw that makes the headpiece malfuntion after a while. It's happened to me and 4 of my co-workers who've also purchased the phone.
The fact that Samsung is still selling it is unbelievable.
Too bad... I really liked it at first.

Don't buy this phone if you know what's good for you. If you want to take the chance, at least purchase a protection plan that would allow you to replace the equipment when you need it. You can also overcome this problem by buying the earpiece(hands-free accessory), that might be the cheapest way out. Cost approximately $15 + or -. (read more)

I mainly use the Samsung 3500 phone for voice communication. It has been very reliable and I haven't had anything on it break. I've used it for 1.5 years now. The voice-activated dialing isn't as novel as it used to be, but I love it and I would require it on any future phone I buy. I am considering the newest Samsung. (read more)

i've had two of these Samsung 3500 phones go on me and my friend has had one, and that's all of these phones that i personally know about. The phone loses it's connection to the speaker in the flip and you can't hear even though your call is not dropped. Any Sprint phone is going to get the same signal strength in an area, so just get a phone that works. Don't buy this phone (read more)

I have owned this phone for 1 year on Sprint PCS. Compared to my Motorola Startac that I have on the same account, it takes forever to connect when turned on and cannot obtain digital signals nearly as well. Indoors forget digital. Voice activated dialing would dial wrong numbers so I disabled it. The standard battery was horrible, I had to buy an extended battery just to get "acceptable" battery life. I purchased the Samsung 3500 from Sprint last June with the understanding that it would work in my place of business (i.e., a school). By the time I returned to work at the end of July, the 2-week window for product return had ended. It was only then that I learned that the phone does not work inside the school building (even though the school's zip code is clearly within the Sprint PCS service area), which defeats the purpose of purchasing it in the first place. This phone is great while you are in open field, on the road, etc. I have this phone over a year, I use it a lot while I'm in business trips (interstate). It never failed during my trips. The battery last long time before you need to re-charged (it give you a audible and visual warning signal when battery needs to be charge).
Overall it's a good phone

Overall I like the look of the phone. The display is really nice, and the voice activation and web browsing is awesome. My number one concern though is the clarity of the phone. When talking to someone you can hear the person perfectly 100% of the time (just like talking on a regular phone), unfortunately the same can't be said for the person on the other end (voice goes from clear to really low where you can't even make out what the person is saying). I like the nokia phones the best. (read more)

I agree, although my phone lasted a little over two years before the contactors to the earpiece speaker in the flip phone hinge began to fail.
