The Sony Ericsson T200 is rubbish please don't get one, Orange is briliant just the phone battery time is rubbish. OK I admit having triband was excellent when I went to South Africa with my Dad. The phone book is so slow loading up.

The Sony Ericsson T200 mobile phone doesn't have the BASIC feature of adding a NEW number from the phonelist - it is embedded somewhere in the Phonebook feature which is NOT DOCUMENTED! I had to ring the UK hotline (I am from Australia) as the Australian Sony Ericsson helpline closes at 6pm.
It constantly switches itself off on a charged battery, this started happening after 2 months!
If you don't turn the ALARM off before it automatically switches itself off, you will need to power-on your phone at least TWICE!! Otherwise you will not get any picture/images on your screen after the first power-on.
The software is totally buggy. My phone now defaults the profile to Portable Handsfree.
I can't receive or make calls on it anymore. This phone is only 6 months old!!!! Sony Ericsson will not change the handset.
(Sony Ericsson response)
Sony Ericsson will not
provide you with a refund or a brand new handset under their warranty terms and conditions.
Best Regards,
Marcus

ABSOLUTLEY USELESS PRODUCT except for SMS! That's the ONLY thing I can do on this P.O.S.
PLEASE ***DO NOT*** CONSIDER THIS PHONE!

The Sony Ericsson T200 is a very poor and unreliable mobile phone. If you need an emergency back-up phone while yours is under repair, then it's fine as it is better than nothing.
The back-light is very bright. It sucks battery power and it's been in the shop 3x for reception and sound quality issues.
After it was finally repaired, it was lost. I paided too much for this phone. I dont recommend it and as a whole, I don't recommend Sony Ericsson products, especially if they are made in China.

I found this Sony Ericsson T200 phone to be very bad after a year of having it. I have replaced it three times. Once because the ringer stopped working, the second because it wouldnt let me call anyone and the third was when the menu wouldnt work. I have lost the phone many times because it is very small. The worst part is not being able to use it in basements or large buildings.

I got a Sony Ericsson T200 because I needed a cheap world phone for travel. This is a light but fairly solid little handset. I have fairly large hands, but the phone is easy to hold and use and I had no problems with the keypad. Sure, the keys are small and close together, but this is a TINY phone, after all, and they don't skimp much on the screen, which is a nice size. The screen and keypad are beautifully backlit.
The menu system is not intuitive, and there are no "soft" keys. For example, to get back to the standby screen from deep inside the menus you have to keep pressing NO or press and hold NO, but this is also how you turn off the phone, and it's easy to do it accidentally. On the plus side, all this simplifies the keypad which makes it easier to navigate by touch (once you learn)-- the phone is very ergonomic in this way.
There are a couple of truly dumb features. You cannot punch in a number and then save it as a contact--you have to scoll to the phonebook and add contacts starting with the name, always. You can spare yourself SOME of the pain if you set up "Add [and Edit] contact" as shortcuts. Also, speed dialing (no one-touch!) is awkward and annoying to set up. Overall, the menu is clearly inferior to previous Nokia, Motorola, and LG phones I have used. That aside, I found that once I had the phone set up (particularly by customizing the My Shortcuts menu), it was fairly easy to use.
Reception is not exceptional but OK, and sound quality is pretty good. Battery life is decent also.
The T200 is quite rich in features for such an inexpensive phone. A nice feature is the one-touch browser access. Games, ringtones, and pictures appear to be fairly limited, but I don't really care about those things very much.
The user guide was disappointing. For example, it doesn't even tell you how to lock the keypad (press and hold C then 2 to lock, press C then YES to unlock)! I suggest you "try the phone" at www.sonyericsson.com/ca/spg.jsp?page=start before buying to see how you like the interface.
If you want killer performance and business-class features in a world phone, go for it and spend the extra money on a Nokia 6310i. Otherwise, you won't find a better value in an entry-level world phone than the T200.

This is my 3rd Ericsson phone. For its price (NZ$300), it offers a good range of features and I find the interface is easy to use. On the downside, the ringtones and pictures are dumb - would be nice to be able to download new ones. Overall though, a good, solid phone that is affordable and functional.

I would recommend this phone, but the ringers and display are not as good as they should be.

personally i think this phones features are really good, the menu is easy to navigate n im not bothered about playing games. the ringtones could be better but at the end of the day its for recieving giving calls on so aslong as it does the jo thats wot matters to me. i think the phones blue backlight is funky altho it wud b nice to be able to turn the brightness down! the only flaw with this phone is the outer casing, it luks quite cool but after a few months the silver bit starts to crack, mine has done in 3 places n i havent dropped it or anything. for instance last nite it was fine n wen i woke up this morning a new crack ahd developed in it. maybe the company shud design a cover that wont break coz its not very good after only having had the fone for 3 months!

Being a heavy SMS'er and a long term IT person...my main concern for any new phone is the how well the software has been designed...predictive text interface, intuitive menus etc, choice of different options and games.
the games are not too good, Tennis, Breakout clone, a couple of other logic type games and that was that. i can see the demand for more interactive and complex games in the future...
the text interface as with all the menus is a little slow. it's very easy to type too fast for the processing speed and so you end up sitting back while it catches up. erasing has the same problem. it seems to be able to store quite a lot of additional words but like the Sony it will delete other custom entries to make space for when you add a new word to the dictonary. the T9 interface is a little less intuitive than the sony (the best i've had so far - with the available words actually appearing in a status bar like window at the bottom of the screen - nice touch) but thankfully unlike all the Nokia phones i've used you dont have to switch to an entirely different screen to see the word list, you just position the cursor next to the word and press 0 (zero) which underlines the word, then you use the joystick to scroll up or down through the list, in the top right corner of the display is a word list count and the list item number you're viewing, which makes it a bit easier to get to the the character or word you want. you only have to remember the item number.
saving numbers from texts is quite easy but adding them to the contacts is bit clunky. it would have been nicer if the code just called existing routine from within the SMS module, but maybe memory space was at a premium..? consequently oyu have to come out of messaging and into contacts, select to add the number then go to another list of options to pull up the "unsaved" numbers...which is a confusing option cos you just saved it from inside the text message..!? under "unsaved" numbers you'll find the entry.
never used the WAP services or the calendar, the calculator is bit awkard to use too...
all in all, for me a text addict...it's a great phone, dawdling aside, the keys really click with a great fee, once you're used to the interface texting can get quite fast (but again Sony wins hands down so far - Sony..add text splicing!)
i like it. all in all a nice phone for me.
by the way...i hated the Siemens SL45i, for a top of the range phone to have mono-phonic ring-tones a heap load of useless Java applets, a text messaging interface that ultimately made me ditch the phone for the Sony T200. maybe i should write a seperate review. it does have MP3 though...!

To anyone who is thinking of buying a T200 please read my review
Hemantha
-----------------------------------------
I bought the T200 after selling my t65 around the last weeks of december 2002, i went for it cos of the blue light which is a craze down here in Sri Lanka anyways i bought it for a round $140 and during the first few weeks of using it i found that it lacked some features of the t65 mostly the superb phone book which was on the t65 but anyways it was later on that i noticed problems with signal strngth where my friends with 3310 had full signals i would only have about half and the battry was not able to standby for even 2 days therefore i got in replaced as it was within the warrenty period but i still feel that the signal reception in this is not quite up to standerd and the battery life is still only 2 days or less also the fact that the back light is too bright is a case for concern where it is difficult for the eyes if you are using it in really dark places.
For anyone who is thinking of going for a T200 it is a SOLID PHONE(Really Good Build casing etc) but it lacks many features and there are many bugs which sony ericsson should look into. I recomend you go for some other phone rather than buying a t200.

Hi Hemantha,
<br>This review has really helped me, I had got similar feedbacks, even the dealers told me to go in for the T-100 than T-200. Your review just seems to cement my thoughts. Thanks

I think the reason why your stand-by lasts only 2 days is because your back light is set to "on" which illuminates the screen even when not needed. Therefore I recommend that you set your light to "auto" and you'll see stand-by time lasting up to 7 days! My GF had the same problem! Please read the manual ok?

The firmware seems to be made by a blind sheep.
In keyboard locked mode any answered phonecall unlocks the keyboard again. The phonenumber preselect settings are impossible to change.
Phone has been replaced because of charging error but new model has the same problem. It keeps telling that it is charging an unknown battery, while it is the original sony one.
This phone is NOT user friendly.

Lets keep it short, if you want a mobile phone to call (make lots of calls) and send a few SMS the T2OO is the phone for you, it doesn't cost much and looks goood.

Was looking for a descent cellphone, this one's it. Handles well, good reception. Battery runs long enough. Doesn't have an executive look though, more for the youth. Hasn't given me any problems yet.

The CD with DCU-11 data cable for USB port clearly stats that the web site www.sonyericsson.com is having a PC software for "Phone monitor options" to configure this T200 phone through this cable for Win 98se but I failed to find any such software on this site.
