Good Points: Well-organised, safety conscious, but so much fun. Top quality quad bikes, great instructor.

Bad Points: I ached the next morning!

General comments: My fiancee bought me an 'Into the Blue' voucher for a 1 1/2 hour quad bike trek and. although I've done quads before, this was by far the best.
Before leaving home, Yorkshire 4X4, the company that runs the events, even sorted our hotel accomodation for us, which was a superb hotel/restaurant called Oswalds With Rooms, located 15 minutes away, by car, in Sowerby. I will review that excellent place separately, but would definitely recommend it.
Yorkshire 4X4 is easy to find, located just outside Thirsk, near Felixkirk. Nice big yellow signs made it wasy to find! It is on land shared with a shooting club (clay pigeon), so a bit noisy, but fun!
Reception is well-staffed and all the employees are easy to spot, as they wear branded workwear. A simple form (safety disclaimer) was completed upon arrival, prior to getting anywhere near the quads.
I was on my own, but placed in with a group of 5 lads on a birthday treat. Each group of 6 will have their own instructor, as safety is paramount. We were thoroughly briefed by our instructor on all of the safety requirements before mounting up and moving out. The brief came in handy particularly for me, later on!
The first part of my day was spent as part of the group on the Challenge course, a tight section of farmland designed to test your basic skills and control on the quad bikes. Most of us had 2 wheel drive bikes and these did get stuck in the saturated mud several times. Great fun, as you then get to spray mud everywhere to get out! Our instructor was on hand to help, if and when needed.
We spent around an hour on this course and we attempted different sections from all angles and not just driving around!
The lads then left us to go drinking in york, so the instructor and myself attacked the advanced quad section on our own. We were out for a further hour and twenty minutes!
Up and down hills, down and across ruts and streams, over bridges, around mud-soaked obstacles, across marshed areas, over man-made and natural dips and bumps. I can't tell you just how much fun this was. I think I was tested to the limit, but there was no pressure to do anything that was too scary or too hard - although I attempted every challenge thrown at me!
There was one part where I didn't quite follow the line I was shown and the quad toppled over, in slow motion. I remembered from the brief that if you cannot jump clear, then keep hold of the handlebars and keep your feet on the foot rests. I was unhurt, but really struggled to even stand from laughing so much! Oh, and the fact that I'm only equipped with 2-wheel drive!
After a thoroughly exhilarating, but tiring 2 and a half hours and with the light starting to fade, we made our way back to the main area.
I was covered in mud and exhausted, but I had really enjoyed my afternoon. A very well-organised activity that not only would I happily recommend, but I would definitely do again!
    Thanks guys.
