This was the first time I had travelled with United, and I have to say I wasn't impressed. When we got to the airport we found out that they had changed the two seats we had selected, and instead had given us two seats that were apart. Where is the common sense in that? It wasn't just us, they had done this to a number of couples who had seats together. This was not a good start. When we got on the plane, I noticed that it was pretty old. I made a reservation to fly from IAH to Anchorage - Made reservation in Jan for flight in June. I have had six flight changes to my reservation since I made the reservation and it is only the middle of March. Every time a change is made, I have to go back in select our seats again - two of on the reservation - every time they separate us. Last week on 2/25 I flew United Airlines flight #582 from Chicago to Tampa. It was a pretty bumpy ride with very little information given by the captain. Finally the lady captain came on the speaker and announced that it was going to be a bumpy ride the rest of the way but in order to be more fuel efficient they were not going to fly at a lower altitude. Disappointment reigns with the airline crew that was to fly us from Des Moines, Iowa to Houston, Texas and then on to Maui, Hawaii Wednesday, January 30. Due to a winter storm coming into our area, over 35 of us that were to travel that morning booked hotel rooms the night before to make sure we made our 6:00am flight. We flew from LAX to Honolulu last week on United Airline First class. The plane was old, the seats were in poor repair (the seat pocket was sagging and torn), and for this 5 and a half hour flight at night - there was no footrest, and only a thin blanket was given out. When I asked for a pillow, I was told there were none. There was no entertainment of any kind. Just returned from a flight from Albany, NY to San Diego and back. Overall, the experience was decidedly unpleasant, but tolerable. We booked our flight through Travelocity, which may or may not have contributed to this experience. We were able to book the flight and select seating (Economy). Did United completely do away with free pretzels or nuts? You had to pay for anything except sodas or water. I was freezing and asked for a blanket. The flight attendant told me that they do not offer blankets anymore. On a positive note, the flight was smooth and the flight attendants were friendly… Read Full Review

due to late departure, connecting flight was missed. Hotel accommodation overnight good but the surly attendant's attitude at the airport desk was a disgrace.
We had taken a late night flight from Vancouver to San Francisco and missed the connection to Sydney due to mechanical problems and had to check into hotel at 1am and were given $15 meal voucher for the whole 24 hours we were held over in San Francisco. This would not buy a decent breakfast at the hotel let alone lunch or dinner.

We were fortunate enough to be "upgraded" to premium economy at no cost both ways.....thank god. Looking at the seats we should have been in would have been a nightmare. However... that's not my gripe about United. It's there staff. Only one person was helpful (the guy at Dulles check in) the rest including cabin crew were at best described as unapproachable. Outdated. No personal lcd monitor. They don't serve food for free (for 5.5 hours of travel). And even if you buy, they only offer snacks. Plus, the staff are not so friendly. Uncomfortable and tiny seats and if you are sitting next to the aisle, be careful as the flight attendants are most likely hit your arm or feet with their trays.

UA 977 Dubai to Dulles, 11 July, arrived an hour before departure via Emirates - hour and half layover mind you, on time arrival, had plenty of time. No one at transfer center, could not get boarding passes at lounge - Arrived gate and found one harried person handing out our seats to standbys. Very good customer service, and good seats in domestic flights .
However they need to keep up and renovate themselves, because I think it has good potential to improve for better. Unfortunately in the international flights, I believe United has a looong way to go to catch up to its competitors.
While they are my choice domestically, I will not fly them outside North America.
I find the seats to be very uncomfortable, and there is no entertainment unit on each seat.

We boarded our plane at 4:30 p.m. at Tampa Bay Int. headed for Chicago O'hare. We sit at the gate for around 30 minutes. By the time we leave the gate it's around 5. We start taxing and probably don't make it 100 feet before we hear a funny sound and stop. The pilot turns off the engines and says one of the oil gauges is wrong. So we're forced to sit there for 40 minutes. Then they pull back to the gate to let a mechanic look at the engine but get this, they don't let us off the plane… Read Full Review
