Having bought the BSA A65 Oil In Frame Lightning 650cc bike in very poor condition.First job was to have an SRM bearing conversion undertaken. From then on the bike has given good service with many thousands of miles covered. Oil changed (SAE 40) every 2000 miles. Additional filter fitted in return oil line. Original points system retained, and Champion N7YCC spark plugs found to give best service of the many different types tried. Front conical hub brake found to be excellent when correctly set up, as good as any disc I have experienced on other bikes.

Never heard such rubbish about the oil filler cap causing the timing side bush to fail. Cause of failiure of this bush is now generally accepted to be poor maintenance such as the lack of essential regular oil changes or the fitting of a sub standard pattern bush during strip down. The BSA A65 650cc has been much maligned in the past by people who should have known better and reviews such as this one don't help to dismiss the myths about this excellent motorcycle.- Read The greywolf's review (85 words)

The BSA A65 Oil in Frame Lightning 650cc is the last in the A65 engine line with all the developments. Good handling & aluminum conical hubs with a twin leading shoe front break with great looks & the throaty roar of a Brit twin. However, bronze bush for the timing side crank bearing, overheats due to the oil filler cap not being exposed to an airflow. Small petrol tank limiting range, vibrates like a demented washing machine.- Read Peter May's review (75 words and 1 comment)
