As an avid fan of seasons 1 and 2 of The Wire, I am pleased to say that The Wire Season 3 continues with the same brilliance of screen writing, direction, acting and realism as the first two.

After the departure to the docks for most of the second season, the third season returns to the streets, although times are changing, the high-rise tower blocks which were the drug ring's stronghold being knocked down and forcing the operations to improvise.

This season concentrates back on the Barksdale drugs organisation, as well as introducing a running political thread, following the mayoral campaign and the significant effect this has on the city, the police department and the criminals.

As ever with The Wire, there are challenging ideas presented, some interesting new characters, some humour and some dark moments and undertones, all brilliantly weaved into the running narrative.

I'd definitely recommend The Wire Season 3 to anyone who has seen the first two seasons - if you haven't, then please go and watch them first, or risk missing out on what is perhaps the best piece of serial television ever created!
