“Hotel from hell!”

Written on: 01/03/2013

I am disgusted with the response from David Urquhart Travel when writing to complain of the Britannia Hotel, Scarborough. The room for two people was inadequate as it was cramped. Should one wish to get to a wardrobe or the bathroom it was necessary for the other person to move to another part of the room. The Harbour Lights dining room was a joke being nothing but a glorified canteen. The food was bland and after serving oneself it was a job to find a clear table as invariably there would... “hygiene on coach ? ( none ) safty ?( none )”

Written on: 19/01/2013 by keekeebees (1 review written)

The toilet had no water , so wasn't able to flush, this lead to the pan getting filled with URINE & FECES, THE SMELL WAS REVOLTING to say the least. Now if that wasn't enough we all had our lives put at risk due to the driver of the coach, he was constantly on his mobile phone whilst driving , UNEXCEPTABLE, This review is written by my mum but on my computer. “COACH TRAVEL COMPANY - WITH NO COACHES OF THEIR OWN”

Written on: 11/01/2013

May I just mention to you that as a regular traveller with David Urquhart Travel, the coaches are NOT owned by David Urquhart, as they are supplied by many and various companies. Not all of them (in fact a driver told us not MANY of them) bear the DU logo - and in fact only about 2 of them have done, in all the holidays we've taken! They are NOT always the most comfortable vehicles to travel in, as DU tender out to the cheapest companies in lots of instances.......One such coach had no... (read more)

“New Year Isle of Wight Coach Tour David Urquhart Travel”

Written on: 09/01/2013 by joanmiller1

We stayed at the Langham Court Hotel, Shanklin on the Isle of Wight over over the New Year period and had a lovely time. The hotel was warm and comfortable and the food was very good and extremely plentiful and nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff. We were all given a nice glass of bubbly on arrival and when we got to our room a tin of delicious biscuits had been left for us and we were also all given a very useful departing gift. We enjoyed the New Year entertainment but felt... (read more)

in august we travelled to scotland, included in the cost was a coach trip around loch lomond. the driver(we've had some miserable ones but he was the worst of them all) didn't want to do this trip so he arranged a boat trip instead at a charge of £8.50 per person with the the option if you didn't like it of waiting with the coach. Holiday in Torquay 04/06/12. Worst coach holiday we have ever been on and we go on quite a few, in 2011 we had 19 coach holidays. First of all the trip to Torquay was horrendous, taking about 10hours, due to the coach picking us up in Leicester, and then going another 100 miles extra on a different route, almost into London before even starting to go to Torquay. Imagine the journey on the way back when everyone just wants to get home. 6 people from our coach stayed in a different hotel due... (read more)

“Norcliffe Hotel Babbacombe”

Written on: 30/09/2012

Booked a short break to Torquay at the Norcliffe Hotel with David Urquhart no problem with the coach journey or the driver who was very pleasant and helpful. The hotel was fine so was the food but being a vegetarian I was disappointed that no vegetarian options were offered apart from salad two nights running. The tea and coffee in the dining room I found undrinkable and even though this was brought to the attention of the owner by one of the other guests nothing was done about it. The... (read more)

Written on: 29/09/2012 by richardsonminicoy (1 review written)

This is far too long a trip for a 5 day break - it means hundreds of miles travel in the space of four days. The Silver Sands Hotel makes Faulty Towers look like the Hilton. There was absolutely no security at reception, the breakfasts were the worst I have ever experiences in any hotel. The overall impression my party got was that the hotel had recently been acquired and that the proprietor did not have any experience in hotel keeping. The tea & coffe at meals times was undrinkable, the... (read more)

“Got to be the worst company for coach holidays”

Written on: 11/09/2012 by mario1953 (1 review written)

We have just arrived back from Blackpool and must complain that this has to be the worst coach holiday we have had with DAVID URQUHART TRAVEL. We have many holidays with David Urquhart and have and are now having second doubts about booking. Firstly we booked a double room and as far as we are concerned it was a single room with a three quarter bed that was solid and creaked every time you moved. The room was so dark we had to put the light on even on a sunny day There was no ventilation as... (read more)

I presume you booked a mystery tour? Yes they are low in price BUT this company then finds the hotel that charges the lowest rates to maximise profits IT DOESNT MATTER WHAT STANDARD THE HOTEL IS!
They only want to make the maximum profits hence POOR HOTELS.
There are lots of good companies out there who look after clients the only way to beat them is by spreading the woed that way we wont have our holiday ruined!

Looked forward to our first coach tour and very disappointed. The 'coach' was more like a school bus. It had to be replaced mid tour as it wasn't going right. Replacement worse than the original, engine was better though.Driver didn't give much information at all. He was a bit pathetic, no personality whatsoever.Boring. If we ever do have another coach tour it will not be with this company, it has put us off this type of break. A decent coach might have made a difference, maybe could have... (read more)

Having been on a fair few trips with this company, I have came across many people like this. You really have to open your mind up and look at what your paying and what your getting for that. If you want 5 star, great but you will pay triple to what you had paid. Saying a decent coach or better driver would make a difference is sheer pathetic. If you went away to enjoy YOURSELF you probably would not notice these things but people like you and many others feel it's up to other people to make their break..

“Their Coach Drivers Are DANGEROUS and RUDE!!!!”

Please do not use this travel company! They obviously do not train their staff in customer service at all and their Coach drivers do not obey the Highway Code. Travel with this company at your own peril. For example, they nearly ran over a woman pushing her baby in a Pram on the promenade. The woman was walking on the path when a David Urquhart Coach mounted the pavement and forced this woman to take drastic avoidance action otherwise the Coach would have hit her and her baby. I have just come home from a David Hurquhart coach holiday and I want to say what a good driver we had. His name was Craig and he took us all the way to Strathpeffer Invernesss, and my husband who is a retired HGV driver commented on Craigs consistent excellent driving. You cannot judge all the drivers by the one bad one , who I do agree should not be driving a coach .I hope you reported the incident to the coach company.

This is the first time we have booked a coach holiday with David Urquart travel and it will be the last. I agree about confusion with Coaches on David Urquhart holidays. Only ONCE - on our second holiday with them - did we have a liveried coach, white with DAVID URQUHART on the side.....all the others have been contracted coaches MUCH chesaper for Urquhart than keeping their own!!) and you have to look quite hard for the poster in the front-window stating 'David Urquhart' and then the tour destination. It would be nice if they were a little more helpful in the Customer Services department, as I have complained before (about other issues) and they tend to treat you as if you are a little compromised in the intelligence department!!! AS IF!
So sorry you didn't get refund! I do think they should have honoured this, considering the confusion (quite understandable) over pick-up points.Maybe you would consider taking this up with Ms E. Elder - with whom I had much correspondence(s) over time.........
