    Good Points: Excellent travel philosophy evident from operator's literature, borne out in reality. Good maps and directions. On the 'Picos 8' tour, incredible meals and very welcoming hosts. But then the area was cheap anyway and the people renowned for their friendliness! Very useful local agent. Plenty of flexibility offered as regards starting points /lifts to /from. Responses to enquiries from tour operator were good though not completely comprehensive.


    Bad Points: Walk descriptions were not entirely up-to-date, which might have caused a problem for an inexperienced walker, but no more than a slightly out-of-date OS map in the UK would! Inadequate details about mountain refuge and lack of warmth. Treacherously muddy path at one point - no forewarning.


    General comments: The travel company "Hooked on Walking" was just what we were looking for in terms of what it offered: it sorted out the logistics of the holiday without charging the earth. Our end of the bargain was to lead the walks ourselves - it was a 'self-guided' holiday after all. Operator works with local agents who handle logistics 'on site'.
