I have had the HTC Magic for 3 months now. Long enough to really assess it's strengths and weaknesses. Like many I decided to try something different from the iPhone (of which was my previous phone). Unfortunately that has turned out to be a big long term mistake (Stuck in an 18 month contract). Sure the Anadroid powered HTC has some good features, it is just not a patch on the iPhone, especially its user interface (UI).
Firstly the good point. Google integration - I just love the mail and calender. It is great to be able to share your calender. There are also some good Apps out there on Google Marketplace, but still missing the big ones that you can download for the iPhone. I miss the Sky news, Sky+ and Facebook apps that the iphone has. Sure there are Android alternatives but they are light years behind the Apples counterparts. Now for the "issues" -- The touch screen is just not responsive enough, it lags, stutters and judders when scrolling, really poor and annoying after a while. The keyboard input is too slow with you having to wait typing while the phone catches up!. The predictive text is not a patch on the iPhone. Photo gallery is almost unusable. I bought a 16Gb memory card thinking it would give me iPhone type storage, but when you have lots of photos on this it just takes forever to load them. Also a massive miss is the ability to double tap and "pinch", this just make the iPhones gallery and web browsing experience so much better and easier to use. Hopefully some things will improve with future updates, but in it's current form the HTC Magic is very disappointing for me. The iPhone is a very expensive commitment on a contract but is simply so much better - You get what you pay for in this case - Oh Yes, anyone want a HTC Magic going cheap?

Great to see the Android OS moving into a nice looking, easy to use handset. I've owned the HTC Magic for a week now and getting used to it quickly. I love that its open source, so much opportunity and not just another iPhone... I spent weeks trying to decide over the iPhone 3GS and this device, I am happy with my decision, a smaller, smart looking handset that is fast and integrates beautifully into Google Applications. I know people moan about batteries, they are all bad and stone age tech ...

Guys n Gals, get ready 'cause Android is here and its here to stay,Yeah yeah, I know we've already had a look at Google's much talked about mobile O/S on the fabulous G1, but here on the HTC Magic ( exclusive to Vodafone in the UK ) its available in updated format in the form of the Cupcake update ( already available to G1 users to the best of my knowledge). Not being new to touchphones I was not worried in the slightest about my ability to get to grips with that side of the UI and in any case I ...

HTC Touch Diamond
21 Jan 2009

HTC Diamondphone looks nice. However, this is the worst phone I have ever had. It freezes up. The battery only lasts a day. It rings people without you knowing. The camera is slow. The screen keeps going off when you a calling answer phone and have to press numbers. I will never have another HTC phone. I'm going back to Sony or a Nokia.

Palm Pre

when i first got the pre, i couldn't figure out how to close app windows. but after viewing the online pdf op manual i became a pro. there is one gesture that is used often, the back gesture. it's nice because it becomes habit, and almost common sense. there is a button for home and it also lights up when actions are performed. also i noticed two little lights on either side of the button witch seems to indicate the gesture was read from one side to the other. what i found nice was a period for...

In my opinion, the Apple iPhone has more looks than performance.
Nice interface but lacks too much real phone stuff.
Needs real keyboard for one hand operation.
Messaging no so good. No 3g. I had bad reception.
Go for the Nokia N95 8G

Nokia N95
29 Jan 2009

Have had this Nokia N95 phone for over 18 months now and absolutely love it. Contract is up but wouldn't even entertain switching to another phone. OK, some phones may be more stylish and have more advanced features but if you're looking for something which gives you the best all round package then look no further. Oh, and regarding the battery life, I also found this rather frustrating when I first got the phone but soon wised up to the fact that provided applications are closed after use, the...
