Woooow wee, where do I Start, this will be grim!! Very small Portions... You need 3 courses to fill you up, Here go's.. we was booked in for Sunday lunch 9th feb.2013, We was waiting 25mins before being seated at a table that was vacant and set ready all that time, not a biggy at this point, we placed our orders, it was very under staffed and somewhat under experienced,my mum asked for extra veg as she did'nt want potatoes, that did'nt seem a problem at the time, our food arrived looking... “"expected better"”

Written on: 11/11/2012

Our first visit to the Dog Inn on Friday 9th November 2012, which we were looking forward to. Seated at a table for two, in the middle aisle (which is the main thoroughfare for diners and staff constantly walking past the table) We chose from the £12.99 menu, the starter of smoked salmon risotto was very nice, therefore, looking forward to our main course we chose the rump steak. Very disappointed, tasteless, chewy and unable to eat it. (ended up in a doggy bag) even the dog wouldn't it. ... (read more)

“Not up to the standard I had heard about.”

Written on: 09/11/2012 by Richard1910 (2 reviews written)

We recently stayed on holiday in Pentrich in a lovely cottage. One Thursday in October we decided to go to the Dog Inn for a meal as it was highly recommended to us. Over the years we have eaten in every style and class of restaurant in many countries. Firstly we found the tables in the restaurant very tight and close to each other although not overly so. Food quality was though very poor. I had soup which was tasteless and steak with tasteless vegetables. My wife's meal had "buttery... (read more)

“VERY NICE”

Written on: 24/07/2012

Visited here in July having been here the same time last year. We found everything just as good as the last visit, staff very friendly, surroundings very pleasant and prices very reasonable for the excellent quality of food. I cant really understand the negative comments but having said that i do understand that everyone is different and we all have very different expectations, all i can say is that in my own personal experience i cant fault the place! “Gone to the dogs!!”

My freind and I here on Sunday 13th May and really wish I hadn't bothered. I've even her several times before and was always impressed with the lovely food and service...well that's a thing of the past! The service was terrible. The head waitress/manager was very rude, barking at us to sit in the bar and order at the bar as we hadn't booked a table. Then she nearly bit our head off for having the cheek to ask for vinager!! I've never been made to feel quite so unwelcome...manners really do... (read more)

we have recently visited this "eating outlet" expecting to have a nice pleasent meal but on arrival we were greeted with an unfriendly welcome via staff (as if they did not want us there). After that we thought oh well im sure the food will be nice, first of all we ordered our meal which was brought out and slammed on our table with no cuttlery, we waited a little while until we had to ask for it worrying our meal would go cold. Upon starting our very expensive burger it soon became clear to... (read more)

“Birthday Sunday Lunch”

Written on: 05/12/2011 by IamBarbaraM (1 review written)

Not being from the area but by a process of elimination and looking at reviews, I decided on The Dog to bring my daughter, and her friend, for Sunday lunch to celebrate her birthday. On arrival we were warmly greeted, and offered drinks with the menus. The specials of the day were pointed out to us on the chalk boards, before sitting at our table in the dining area. The whole place is nicely decorated, quite modern but sympathetic to the age of the building. The bar area has a wood burner and... (read more)

The food has always been outstanding, and reasonably priced. “A Dog That Needs Putting Down”

Written on: 17/08/2011 by BruceEBonus (2 reviews written)

Went here today when a local workmate suggested we go for lunch. She had the cheese coated chicken baguette and I had the ham and plum suave ciabbatta thingy. Both cost around the five quid mark. Came with no chips, or crisps or well...anything. Just a smidgeon of tired looking salad. Quite a generous portion admittedly but not in any way memorable. Really the kind of thing you could make yourself in two minutes wi a cob, a slice of thick ham and a coating of relish. But pay ten times as... (read more)

“Have had better school dinners”

Written on: 08/08/2011

Shocking meal - worst we've had in a Derbyshire pub in the past five years. Spiced Turkish Meatball starter had no discernible spice, was greasy and contained more gristle per meatball than I've seen in any cheap sausage; the tsatsiki was yogurt with cucumber and not much else. Main course of Slow-cooked Rosemary lamb was a pile of fatty roast lamb, with little flavour (no rosemary in eveidence) and left a residual coating of fat in the mouth: sub-school dinner standard, certainly not a... Dont listen to the negative reviews. They are probably the kind of people who are never happy with anything.

Coming from the local area I have been to the Dog Inn in Pentrich on numerous occasions over many years. Every time I have been the food has been exquisite and the service excellent. Sure, sometimes people make mistakes like not laying the table for the correct number of people, as one person said.. but hey, thats life. get over it!

I have been here for parties, romantic meals,... (read more)

terrible service and food, looks and sounds great but was just horrid. Staff were poorly trained and rude, more interested in chatting to each other than doing their jobs. Left all our empties on the table, never once asked us if we'd like a drink we had to keep asking them or just go and get it from the bar ourselves. I had pork it was severly overcooked and the fat hadn't been rendered at all. Food was not as desribed. A terrible experience, i will not return. Waste of money, much... (read more)

I came here tonight to celebrate my engagement. The service I recieved was appaling - the manageress was speaking down toher staff like dirt on the floor in front of other customers, making myself and my party feel very uncomfortable. probably the worst experience of dining that I have ever had. The tables were too close together and our night was completely spoiled by another diner who accused me of "watching her". Her psychotic behaviour and the failure of the staff to recognise her agressive behaviour upset our evening and we will never dine there again. The fact that we ere nearly sat on their table did not help but the food wasn't that great either. (read more)

My grandmother and I visited The Dog Inn, Pentrich for the first time today - and I can safely say it won't be the last! We went on a quiet Saturday lunchtime. Once we ordered drinks we were seated at our table. My first impression of the restaurant was 'wow!' The decor is a beautiful, intimate purple and the tables and chairs are laid out nicely.

Visited The Dog pub at pentritch tonight, very dissapointed. Six of us went for a meal for my daughters boyfriends 21st. Not a lot of choice on the menu,we struggled to find something. Small portions and over priced for what you get. The meals are well presented, but they do not taste as good as they look. Could not complain as we would have liked as the birthday boy was already embarrased and dissapointed for picking the place. So we tried to make the most of a bad job, what a shame. (read more)

This I think is the best restaurant by far in the Amber Valley in Derbyshire. Its a real gem. The dog Inn is a great country pub keeping its olde world charm with woodburning stove and beams but with a modern twist.

The restaurant food here is exceptional with a good selection main courses. We've tried the chicken, steak with stilton, duck, and venison. All were delicious. The presentation of each course is a work of art (one of my friends took photos of everything, she was so impressed) ... (read more)
