I recently used SCE to transfer Euros having only previously used the bank. I was amazed at the saving - even for a relatively small amount. The process was clearly explained upfront and they sent me useful financial guides. They even allowed me to pre-book a guaranteed rate on the amount. For years I have been using my bank to transfer money to my US bank. Once upon a time I used to get a reasonable exchange rate but in recent times it has become positively greedy! Fortunately, my brother introduced me too SCE. Joining was painless, the staff very professional, the procedure equally painless and they only took around 1.25%. In the old days I used to have to make a personal visit to my bank, fill in a form in triplicate, get a lousy exchange rate (and service!) and the money would reach my account weeks later. Now I just send an email to a specific trader at SMART, he tells me the best rate immediately and the money is transferred into my account usually in the same day. What a difference! Many thanks. As mentioned in another review I was a little wary the first time I transferred a large sum of money into an unknown bank account! Efficient, cheapest, all round the best. Good telephone customer service, with no waffle or jargon.
After setting up the account I called them on 18th Nov 2010, and asked for a quote to exchange 28829.01 euros to sterling. They quoted £24026.10, and I accepted - deal done on the phone. That is a rate of 1.1999, which is a good rate because the interbank spot GBP/EUR rate at the moment I did the deal was about 1.1898, so smart represented a spread of 0.85% which is much better than the banks...
