Reginald Laubin,Gladys Laubin, The Indian Tipi: Its History, Construction and Use:
It's not that I really need a tent to sleep outdoors in the wintertime, but I thought about getting a(nother) tent.
I looked around. - Small tents,larger. Thinking.
I decided to make my own. Why? - Because I want to have a fire inside it, and I want to be able to stand inside. A tent that you can't stand in? - Ha!
-A Yurt would be to big for my use. Should it be a Lavvu or a Tipi? Or a "Lapi"? Compenplating.
(A friend of mine mentioned an idea - "Lapi"(lavvu/tipi), but I don't think a combination like that is made yet, but who knows? I think I know how to. He recommended tipi before lavvu, and explained why.)
I've got a very simple taste; I am always pleased with the best!
As I see it, the difference between a luvvu and a tipi is like a Lada and a Lamborghini...
I ordered and finally got my own copy of the tipi-book by Gladys Laubin, bought what I needed and made it, mostly by hand, since our sewing machine is for kinder materials.
The result? I am pleased with my Cheyenne/Dakota design.
The only problem was to find out how the Ozan should look like, but that's all right now.
During the last five years or so, my tipi has travelled about one thousand kilometers. - Freezing cold winters under the glimmering stars - aurora borealis flashing and waving; blizzards that lay big trees flat to the ground - still cozy inside; hot summernights under the midnight sun, or - in the garden in front of the house.
This book is Very good! It's basically all you need for knowing how to make yourself a decent "tent". I recommend it.
- You know, a tipi is not a tent, it is a home!

If you can get only one book on tipis, Reginald Laubin,Gladys Laubin's - The Indian Tipi: Its History, Construction and Use is the book to get.
You can learn how to make one, how to set one up, plus many things regarding the culture and history of the tipi from some of the last people who were able to talk to Indians from the pre-reservation days.
The Laubins sought to get Indian youth to regain pride in their heritage during a time when it was bad to be Indian.- Read Guest's review (166 words)
