Remus have caused me nothing but trouble as a tenant in a block they manage in high Wycombe, buckinghamshire. Upon having Internet installed into my flat, the engineer had a trouble finding a working phone line. I transpired that all 4 phone lines in my property were wired spereatley and 3 of them were not connected and the wires just disapered into the building. When I called Remus to find out what was going on in was told that they did not hold the building plans for the property. WHICH... (read more)

I am thoroughly disappointed with this company. They are charging me £1100 per year to 'maintain' a new build property with a 10 year NHBC guarantee. It's not like there is even a lift! just 3 flats in a block which is essentially a large house with a tiny garden. That is over £3,000 per year! I have found them to be incredibly rude and they refuse to answer questions about how they are spending my money. They charge for non existent services and create other charges that should be part... If you're buying or renting a property that's managed by Remus, be afraid - be very afraid! We pay over £900 a year to Remus - and all you'll get for your money are (very) occasional site visits (they come during working hours though, so don't think you'll ever get to meet your property manager) and a nasty surprise when you receive your end-of-year accounts. We've just had ours through the post, demanding £400 they hadn't previously budgeted for is paid within 28 days. That is an... (read more)

I've been living in a Remus managed block of flats for a few years now under Remus management. Recently we have developed a bad roof leak (as we are in the top floor flat). Daily phone calls seem to be going no where and we're not sure what to do next! (read more)

This company is absolutely horrendous. I rent my flat from a very helpful, reliable landlord who pays a small fortune to this company in management fees. All he seems to receive in return is letters pestering for payments he as already made. And all I receive are patronising, bullying letters about parking and doormats in hallways. They tried to implement a parking permit system and there was uproar from the tenants here. When I complained and asked for the permit scheme to be reconsidered,... (read more)

I have a freehold property that I bought as a newbuild on an estate in which the Developer instigated the services of Remus. In the 22 months (nearly 2 years) I have lived here, I have received 7 different invoices for the supposed 'Annual Service Charge.' after receiving approx the 4th invoice I contacted Remus by phone asking for help to understand their services and billing cycle as I was perplexed by the frequency of charges. My husband and I bought a house over 3 years ago on a new build and today got a letter stating that Rebus was taking on the role of management! We were sent a booklet and list of prices for which I'm not sure are that relivent as we own the property. We always knew we would have to pay a small charge as there are dykes which need to be maintained surrounding our site of 150 homes! Since reading these reviews I'm now extremely worried that we are going to billed for silly things. When we brought the house we were only told about a maintence charge of £60 a year and not all these other charges that are listed. Is there anything that can be done to get rid of them??
Written on: 15/05/2013
Hi, I know that in my case there is nothing I can do, as legally although it is a freehold house, the deeds to the property lock it into a management contract. I believe the only way to overcome this is to get a certain percentage of the properties that are also involved to agree to sack the company (Remus) and either employ the services of a better management company - or indeed all club together a certain amount each year and directly employ a contractor to provide services.
I am told that the reason we are locked into a management company is so that the house builder avoid paying high fees to the local council for them to adopt the estate (as older estates have.) Ie, because the housebuilder wants to swerve paying any money, we get clobbered with what is essentially a secondary tax to a management company.
This wouldn't be such a problem is the management company acts ethically, efficiently and courteously (as looking at reviews for many other such companies, they do.) Unfortunately Remus appears to be a rogue agent in the sector that gets away with it purely because it knows that it is tough for residents to get the required number of properties together to sack them. Good luck! - and please message me if you require any further info.

I have fought Remus for years & even with a cast iron legal case they keep on with their bullying knowing that if you sell you have to pay to make it look OK to your buyer. If anybody reads these reviews please understand that they are all true. If anybody sees Remus Property Management in any documentation concerning a house purchase - RUN A MILE (I wish I had). Cowboys is too good a term for them. For anyone with the option you should get all the leaseholders together and do a right to manage (RTM). Visit the leaseholders advisory service for more details. Unfortunately the law is a joke concerning leasehold properties. There needs to be a regulator and Remus would be at the top of the list for being banned from doing business.

This firm is poor, any landlord who utilises such a firm should consider their own position within the property chain. Firms such as these are not worthy of managing a cardboard boxed housing estate, let alone any type of worthy development. My advice, pay the extra and seek out a firm that will not allow your buildings to degenerate into a ruinous state. (read more)

Remus is one of the most expensive companies and still allows properties to degenerate. This is deliberate. Lessess end up paying for substandard work and paying to put it right. This is also deliberate. They are just out to fleece lessees and couldn't give a damn about how unhappy they are making them and the state of the building. The real irony is that they send bills stating that you will be taken to court if you don't pay.

Remus Management, what can I say... Absolutely terrible! I would recommend you don't touch them with a 10ft barge pole. We have been through 4 Remus property managers in the last 4 years ranging from semi-competent to abysmal. Their correspondence to leaseholders is poor. Our first experience with Remus management company has been somewhat shocking. Under usual practise I would consider it normal for a company to issue an invoice for a management fee instead no invoice no reminders just sending a recovery agent in which I 100% believe to be a sister company to Remus. How can an individual flat owner protest (when I don't know any of the other owners who may support me?) Remus has not got a clue about property management. Its staff make things up as they go along, they are poorly educated, ill mannered, ill informed, the only thing they do consistently is vastly overcharge for poor or non-existent services. The is is the worst management company I have ever seen. The service I receive the most is charging and charging with unclear invoices. I wonder whether that's the service I pay for. No matter how you explain the charges are wrong, they will threaten you that late payment will be incurred. I had a flat in Birmingham and it was amazing how quickly they managed to run down a perfectly good building. I sold the flat for less than its value just to get out. My solicitor said Remus are the most expensive of all the companies she deals with and is amazed that they are allowed to go on practising.
I really liked the flat and would have kept it if it hadn't been for Remus. They are simply out to make money and don't give a damm about the lessess. Since they are incorrigible the only way is to change them.

The greatest shortcoming of property to rent in the UK is the fact that you end up paying a lot of money for something that does not add to your asset base over time. Yet another disadvantage is the fact that rent is bound to increase over time while your income might not. Another disadvantage property to rent in the UK is the fact that you do not get to remodel the property as you wish to fit your business needs.
Buying property in the UK is advantageous over getting property to rent in the UK in that properties in the UK appreciate very quickly and buying property is therefore a great investment. When you are running a business and you are the property owner, you get interest deductions and real estate tax deductions. Buying property in the UK is advantageous over getting property to rent in the UK because you will not need to make monthly or quarterly payments, meaning you will not be in trouble even when your business is not doing well. Once you no longer need the property, you could always sell it for a huge profit.
The greatest disadvantage of property to buy over property to rent in the UK is the fact that moving is not an option. Even if you want to expand your business or to move to a more lucrative location, you cannot unless you lease out the property and take lease a property yourself. Another disadvantage of property to buy over property to rent in the UK is the fact that you need a lot of capital, capital that is not easy to come by in these lean times.

Having read the other reviews on here it concurs with my view that Remus has a philosophy of rudeness and bullying.
In my case funds wholly intended for a third party were diverted into Remus' own account and I was not informed of this.
