The UK Gov now insist you use this website to keep track of your job applications. Its not fit for purpose constantly crashing & very slow when you do get on the website you can see lots of vacancies which are designed to exploit the employee with min wage roles for highly skilled jobs. Well done middle management suits at DWP. The JobcentrePlus website used to be easy and helpful - now it is totally worthless. Most jobs now cannot be applied for without registering with Universal Jobmatch, which is one of the most frustrating web experiences around - have tried it 3 times now and not working properly. Pity star rating doesn't go into negative numbers. Having spent the last 3 hours getting more frustrated with direct gov website trying to upload my CV. Why can't be like gumtree? My JCP is situated in the worst part of town. If you can get to the centre without being mugged. verbally assaulted,apporached by beggers for money then you done well. Having done a search for jobs in the North West of England the site threw up locations ranging from Penzance to Cromer. When I searched for jobs within 10 miles of Manchester, it was showing posts in Stoke-on Trent, Stafford etc. It's an abortion. There was nothing wrong with the previous website. I used to (sort of) like the jobcentre plus website, but since it got put under the umbrella of gov.uk it is terrible. Nothing good about this site. My biggest gripe being that you can't see the wages paid for any of the jobs advertised (this may be different for registered users, but as I am currently employed I don't Need to log on, I thought it would be useful though) My suggestion: try somewhere else (read more)

As others have stated, this website is an aberration. In addition to the questionable security and temperamental distance filter, when I've been sifting through search results recently, if I click on one and then press the back button on my browser, the results inexplicably change to completely different ones, sometimes displaying vacancies posted two months ago. Horrible job search site.Majority of jobs require you to call a premium rate phone number to apply. Also i don't trust this site with protecting my privacy (directgov will share your information with 3rd parties) AVOID AVOID AVOID!! there is so many alternatives out there offering the same jobs that direct gov has on there site. Overly complex, difficult to understand at times and search results are often totally irrelevant. It's managed terribly and extremely insecure. I have concerns over the safety of my EXTREMELY sensitive personal details. Login can be difficult and recovering lost account details is also VERY difficult. I check the site every couple of days, and at least once a week the distance filter does not work properly. This is extremely frustrating because the category functions have already been removed and the skills don't properly filter out the jobs that I am unqualified for. Is this the best they can do?? This has got to be one of the worst sites for job search. You put in the relevant information about key words or skills or distance from home and it send you e-mails with random jobs that bears no resemblance to the information you put in. Yes that is my exact impression of the site as well. I am unbiased in that regard as I am unable to seek benefits due to my visa anyways, so it's not like my opinions are sour grapes. The site is designed as a sort of passive-aggressive roadblock that has very little to do with finding work and a great deal to do with preventing people from collecting benefits.

Much prefer the old site - able to access local/ish jobs. Jobs displayed are often in other Counties etc. For non-drivers or where public transport is limited the added strain of cost and time management has to be factored in! The site change appears to cover-up the lack of local jobs while encouraging us to broaden our search field(s) for jobs that offer 'minimum wage' Just an observation! (read more)

I'm baffled by this. The old website was a great place to search for available jobs, and possibly the best part was being able to organise the resulting matches by distance. That feature is gone, and in fact distance seems of no issue any more when vacancies 40+ miles away are included in the supposed 20 mile distance limit. At the bottom of the site is a contact function, this brings you to another screen where you type your complaint etc and send. You will get a reply by the next day.
I have used it, an it is useless as they never admit they have any problems or there are problems with the site or the jobs advertised on it. They make out that YOU are the one who is useless.
The site I believe is owned by Monster jobsite and has cost the government millions, it ran over when it it first same in as it was about 4 months late.

The Government can say what it likes. The jobs here never pay above the minimum wage no matter what the qualifications and experience are, and when you do apply the job is always gone anyway. All the jobs are fake or out of date, just like a high street job agency really. (read more)

damn right not to mention how often the site regardless of knowing you have put in the right user id and password locks you out so they can say you have not done your jobsearch according to your jobseekers agreement and have your claims canceled as has happened to me twice now so i believe they purposefully take the site down so as they can avoid paying people and have excuses to close claims as we are in a triple dip recession!
