I bought the Hoover 4207/1 upright vacuum cleaner as I believed that Hoover built quality vacuum ceaners and for the price it seemed good value. How wrong I was. This machine was a waste of money. It has a lead coming out of the bottom of the machine which you canot help but run over unless you either hook it to the machine (which shortens the already VERY short cable) or hold it up. Every time I have used the hose with the cleaning tools the thing falls over - and given that Hoover warn that it is hazardous to use the machine when it it is not upright -this happens over and over again - as the dents in my walls and doors will show. The thing will only pick up from my medium length carpets when it is intensive clean mode which makes it VERY hard to push around and I often have to use both hands to push it - having to drop the cable and then running over it in the meantime. And even then cannot cope with cotton threads so I have to go round afterwards pickng up what it has left. The per hair attachment clogged when I first used it but when I removed the clog and put it back together it has now stopped working completely. The belt snapped after only a couple of weeks use. When I tried to take it back to the retailer where I bought it from they advised that unless there was a technical fault they could not exchange it without an authorisation from Hoover. Trying to get this has been a nightmare - Hoover's customer service is appalling. I have rung three numbers so far and just keep getting passed about with very unhelpful staff telling me how they can't help and can't put me through to someone who can because 'there are lots of departments and I don't know who you should talk to'. I have resorted to e-mail and am now waiting for a service engineer's appontment. I am hoping they will agree that this is a poorly designed, poorly performing, badly made machine that presents a hazard in its use - I live in hope.
