I was looking for a new laptop to take lecture notes on when I stumbled across the HP Touchsmart TX2 range.

I was amazed that a tablet PC could be had in this sort of price range (with discounts mine cost me around £650

The touch facility works perfectly, and the provided pen is great for handwriting and diagrams. Performance is adequate, much better than a netbook, but less than an average entertainment laptop.

The tablet does get fairly hot, and there are a few quirks. You need to delve into the Power Management settings to throttle the CPU during low use or the fan makes quite a racket. You also need to uninstall alot of Bloatware (or do a complete format) unless you want each boot to take 10 minutes.

Overall I paid about £650 for a ultraportable tablet with a decent spec - business orientated tablets are double or even triple that price tag, so you cant have everything perfect. Yes a Core2 Centrino would have given better performance, less heat, and longer battery life, but it would have also driven up the cost.
