“My cold call horror with paymentshield”

Written on: 27/04/2013

I was contacted from a cold call from by paymentshield (which for a start says a lot about them yes desperate for customers)when they rang the salesman told me he could save me money against my currenyt home insurance and get me more cover??? Like hell he did after signing I have since realised how overly priced the policy was compared to my old insurance and most other home insurance readily available anywhere. He told me I would save £10 per month??? lies!!! my old insurance is actually... (read more)

“Avoid PaymentShield and Royal Sun Alliance at all costs”

Written on: 27/01/2013 by icy_techZ (1 review written)

I have been with PaymentShield whose policy is underwritten by Royal sun Alliance for 4 years paying my monthly contents insurance without any problems, until recently when I have had to claim! In October 2012, a water tank in the loft leaked into my lounge soaking my fabric sofa and carpet. I logged this with my insurers the following day and 2.5 months later they still havent replaced my carpet or sofa. After 5 weeks of letting my items fester in water, RenewCavalier (appointed glorified... (read more)

“THE WORST COMPANY EVER ! ”

Written on: 10/12/2012

Absolutely appalling staff, bunch of liars, they must all read from the same script! Their complaints procedures is a load of rubbish, they aren't even able to follow their own guidelines and will do anything to fob you off - mainly by ignoring you. I would urge anyone that has a grievance against this company to stick with it and report them to the Financial Ombudsman which will hit them immediately for costs of £500, let alone any compensation you may be awarded and make sure you... What happened in your claim? I have also had the same level of rubbish service. For 2.5 months my claim is still not sorted. They simply dont give a monkeys about people who have genuine claims. I got a call at 2.20pm on Sat to call them back about my claim. When I called back they said that they closed at 1pm on Sat!!!! I have had to do all the chasing, to the point now, where I am reduced to tears, I am that upset.

Paimentsheild is one of the worst insurers EVER! Stay away and find any good one. Always read reviews ! We didn't read any before we have bought building & contents insurance as we thought that our broker will... Bad customer service, two other companies they use (Crowfords is one of them) are RUBISH ! Rude and arrogant liars ! 10 weeks took them to say that our claim was refused. They took 100 pounds excess, raised our premium up next day we have made a claim, Paimentshield blamed... (read more)

Have an ongoing complaint with them, so can't go in to too much detail. Can only advise at this stage, DO NOT touch them. I will be taking them all the way. Their customer service is no existant, rude, arrogant, could not care less. By the way, the excuse I am getting is 'training issue' seems they still haven't got their act together looking at a review from last year. Where is the FSA in monitoring companies like this, they should be black listed! (read more)

I agree. I also want to take them all the way with an ongoing complaint. After letting 75% of my sofa and half of my loung carpet fester in water for 5 weeks from a leaked water tank they wont replace my items. They believe that a cleaning company has done a good enough job - what nonsense!

“Revoked house and contents insurance due to building work”

Written on: 01/05/2012

I informed Paymentsheid that we would be having building work done on the house - loft conversion, small 2 storey extension, new kitchen, new roof tiles, soffits, fascias, guttering. The house is occupied through out and the builder has full insurance. However we wee given a 30 day notice period that the insurance would be revoked. It is now extremely difficult to get insurance cover as one of the first questions asked is "Have you ever had any insurance refused?" and if you answer yes most... (read more)

Aviva withdrawn its unemployment-only cover in 2008, provided through its partnership with Paymentshield. I had been paying the premiums for at least 8 years without claiming then they decide to pull the policy. In 2008 Paymentsheild confirmed the Unemployment only policy had been withdrawn, saying: "We are responding to current market conditions and as an insurer we want to balance the risk of our portfolio for the benefit of our existing customers. Has anyone tried to claim back premiums made to Paymentsheild, as FSA handbook states:- IPI policies are classed as long-term insurance and are regulated by the Financial Services Authority (FSA) under its Insurance Conduct of Business Sourcebook (ICOBS) rules.[1] This requires the issuing insurance company to keep records of the contract for a minimum of six years, and the policyholder has a minimum of 30 days to cancel the contract. If cancelled, the policyholder is entitled to a full refund of any premiums paid.

terrible is the only way i can describe Paymentshield. I entered into a redundancy insurance policy. I paid premiums for years and when I needed to claim Paymentshield used every possible "get out" clause not to pay. The most effective way they have not to pay is to force you to present written evidence on a monthly basis of at least 6 job search attempts (reasonable up to this point). HOWEVER they accept as evidence only invitation letters for interviews and rejection letters. In most... (read more)

Not impressed in the slightest.

I took out redundancy cover in September 2009 and unfortunately it was needed when I was made redundant in September 2010. I am yet to see a penny of it - fortunately I got back into work at the start of March 2011.

I was missold the policy regarding how the excess period is calculated - something which has been acknowledged by PaymentShield although they refuse to honour the agreement - instead it is a matter for internal staff training.

They claim to have... (read more)

When me and my long term partner split up i realised that if anything happened to me (like getting really ill or having a car accident) i wouldn't be able to pay the mortgage on my own. Up until then we had relied on each other, but now i began to worry.

A freind suggested Paymentshield because she had it and had already made a claim, and got paid, when she broke her arm falling off her horse.

So took it out and it was a good job i did, because at the end of that year i was made redundant.... (read more)

My experience of Paymentshield has only been a good! I've had a policy for years with them and have had to claim twice. Both claim's processes were really easy and straightforward. Yes there are forms to fill in, things to prove etc but that's what people should expect when it comes to an insurance claim.
If you check your policy when you take one out and make sure you understand what you are covered for then there is no reason to have a problem claiming from your insurance! People get... (read more)

Payment sheild in my opinion should be avoided at all costs. I am in the process of claiming from them, they are unhelpfull, their loss adjuster is very moody and unhelpful. They are refusing to pay out for damaged items and trying to get out of paying out for as much as possible. I am having to chase all of the contractors myself. I too hold mppi insurance and it is standard to check for pre existing medical conditions. any insurance policy clearly states that these are excluded. if you feel you have been mis sold you should speak to the broker who sold you the policy, not paymentshield. in my experience with paymentshield they have been nothing but helpful and of course it is probably standard that they have to check details with your doctor. it is not there fault if the drs are delaying your claim, you should slate them not the insurer. they probably asked you to help chase them so the could process your claim as quickly as possible.

I took out my Paymentshield policy last year after i realised that the bank i had my previous policy with was being looked at by the FSA for miss-selling their own type of payment protection insurance.

In late 2008 I bought a home and covered my building and contents with Payment shield. About 4 months later we had a leak, quite a bad one. I found this review very helpful because...
i also have a Paymentsheild unemployment policy and my job is at risk, so came on this site to see what others have to say about it.
I also rang them and told them about my fear of being on the "hit list" and they sent me all the forms so i would be ready if it happened.
So far so good.
If it happens i will be claiming and then i'll be able to see how it gets handled, but they have assured me that they will honour the policy and have marked my file to be ready if it does.
This way, they said, it could speed things up a bit at their end.
