ive owned my nokia n97 for almost two years, and have begun my search for a new phone. This lead me to searching reviews and thought i'd add my opinion to this. Im not highly technical but will use a reasonable number of features on the phone The phone is feature rich which pretty much sold it to me. has all the social network tools preinstalled, has wifi, a decent keyboard and a high megapixel camera. The problem comes when you actually have to use the dam thing. the features are slow to... (read more)

I can totally agree with this review. What was sold as an iPhone beater simply is not.
Constant connection issues, and although they can be sorted, each time you have to delve through multiple complicated menus to achieve this.
It broke 4 times in 2 years and i took care of it so it was not damage caused by misuse. Vodafone repaired it free of charge on a contract but it ended up having almost all of its parts replaced.
Apps from the ovi store (supposedly checked by nokia) kill it and it had to be factory reset.
One (and the final straw) occasion i loaded an app that used the calendar function of the phone to retrieve my appointments worked for 3 weeks and then failed. it took the embeded calendar with it and no other calendar app would work either.
Return to Nokia!
I upgraded from a N95 which was great. But i now have a 3Gs and wonder why i put up with the crappy N97 for nearly 2 years. The OS is better the processor and graphics are better the apps work! The app store is much bigger etc etc.
N97 Nice keyboard good camera (when it worked). nothing else going for it!
I defended this phone for ages against the iPhone crowd.... what a prat.

Nokia N97 was launched as Flagship mobile of Nokia. With extremely high price and hype in media, I decided to have it for upgrade. TBH, I regretted my decision straight away as the Phone literally feels like a copy cheap version from China. Symbian OS sucks. Its unreliable, amature sluggish and everything but good. Especially when you have used the likes of iPhone, or Google Android phones, it is really unpleasant to use Nokia N97. The only thing that is good is Camera. However for the price... (read more)

Not a bad phone. Can do everything all other smartphones on the market can do. The only down side to the phone is it has a nice habbit of crashing at annoying times. This is normally just after a phone call. I am on the latest firmware but the crashing has been an issue on all versions of the firmware.
Always had Nokia phones and with all the N series phone I have had this always seems to be an issue.

In order to obtain the Unlock code, contact the carrier to which your phone is locked to.
<br/>Every carrier has certain conditions inorder to give you the unlock code.
<br/>If they do not help you don't be panic there are lot of providers in the web who can help you with one.
<br/>I would recommend to go for the cheaper one.
<br/>However make sure that you reach the right place.
<br/>You cannot play with the attempts in the Nokia N97 to enter the unlock code which can make the phone hardlock even.
<br/>Here are some suggestions, compare the price among themselves.

I have this phone for a year now. First 5 months needed software update every month due to freezing. Finally in month 6 I returned it to the "3" network for repair. They refused to acknowledge previous problems as I had the updates done with an authorised Nokia shop and not them. I could have proved a copy of the record of service but they were not interested.
Returned it eventually 3 times and they finally admitted it could not be repaired. They agreed to send a replacement, but....it...

This Abomination from the creaky stables of Nokia nearly put me off ever having a mobile again!!
The touch screen is hard work,it's slow,it takes you out of the net(should you be patient enough to wait the 3-4 mins it takes to put you onto it)the video quality is appalling, the texting terrible and trying to answer a call takes a master class in lunacy to do so.
upside,I heve'nt got it anymore i traded it for the fantstic htc Desire

I got mine on conract in Jun 2009 due to it having a qwerty keyboard which was good to use while using public transport to work. The Accuweather function doesn't work, it's not as fast as the iPhone. My screen started playing up and despite several updates/calibrations. Vodafone took a week to repair and 2 days later it went back and had the screen replaced. It's no where near the iPhone or later Nokia touchscreens. Ovi store is far from competing with the Apple Store. Overall, it's a poor... (read more)

I was very hyped up to get the Nokia N97 phone because of the features it boasted, like touch screen display, applications, email and so on. This could have been a great phone, but unfortunately it was let down by faults and software problems. I used the phone extensively and there are just too many problems and when you complain to the operator or manufacturer their answer is to simply 'repair' it with a firmware upgrade.
The phone very frequently locks up - when you answer by swiping...

I found that it crashed sometimes, but not exessively. It also bounces well. Dropped mine many times but it never broke. I like that!

I am having a love/hate relationship with the Nokia 97.
On the one hand, the screen is a decent size, image quality for photos and video playback is good, the Camera is OK and the 32gb of built in storage is great.
On the other hand, the OS is tempermental and frequent hangs/freezes for no reason, the apps downloaded from the Ovi store seem to have a 50/50 chance of working and the fact that once connected to a WLAN it is impossible to get the damn thing to stop trying ti re-connected once...

Wanted to give it 0 stars.
Phone itself is slow and buggy.
OS is HORRIBLE.
Ovi store is complete rubbish.
Takes about 30s to rotate the display.
The unlock/lock screen button causes the phone to crash.
The camera lens cover actually scratches the lens.
Email won't sync.
Sent off for repair and was returned to me with just a firmware upgrade. Now the bluetooth doesn't work.
Nokia have actually stopped manufacturing this phone due to consumer complaints and failure of testing with orange....

I progressed to the Nokia N97 via the N95 & the N95 8Gb. Initially I had reservations as I found the N97 difficult to use but now I am used to it it's fine. The touchscreen is great & the QWERTY keyboard is useful. 32Gb memory is excellent, I have saved 6 movies, 350 songs, photos, documents & I'm not short of memory at all. (More on memory later though). I do use the stylus although it is quite useablw with your finger. I can't believe there is no storage for the stylus in the phone! This... (read more)

Too slow, too bugged, the O.S is outdated, complicated. this Nokia N97 phone is a shame from nokia.
Even if you have good specifications, you will not use it because the interface/UI is too slow and buggued. The N97 is clearly a deception.
Like said before my review, the N97 is the worst phone that Nokia has ever sold. Today there are competitors who are better or offer the same specifications: Samsung Player HD, iPhone, HTC Hero. I recommend to buy another device. There are a lot a forums...

Very good effort by nokia to try and rival the Iphone, but despite having a better picture quality and decent apps service... the Nokia N97 still lags a few years behind the IPhone. The phone's slow processing makes it feel very temperamental in turn making me fear for the outcome should I drop it on a surface as soft as my sleepeasy matress. Nonetheless it gives you a wide range of options yet never loses its identity as a phone. Very good to get if you want to stand out amongst your Iphone... (read more)

Ok, so the Mokia N97 starts life at a disadvantage in terms of firmware, so what. The N97 has potential, which is what N95 started with. I have installed the 1st firmware update & the phone is noticeably better. There IS more to do, but the phone has a fast internet connection & lots of memory. The keyboard is good and Python is already available to the Symbian OS. I love this phone and the developers of app's and games for this mobile are already hard at work. I think that the N97 will gain... (read more)

Nokia N97 is the BEST. The touch screen is not too sensitive. However my phone came in white :-( luckily i found this site that had the black covers so i changed them over and it came with the correct tools too :-) (www.telcomponents.com). Even though the camera is the similar to the N95 the quality is much enhanced and looks excellent even on the most zoomed in version. The only thing it includes which isnt really needed is the stylus.
With the semi-push email function, overall i must say...

Nokia N97 is an overall good start for competing against the iphone as the design and layout is good. I find it handy having the Qwerty keyboard which does take a bit of getting used to but easier at times than the touchscreen if you have big fingers. The touch screen is good and responds well & accurately. (read more)

I was very excited about receiving my N97. When it arrived I feverishly opened the box and started playing with it.
The actual design was a little dissapointing, but more or less what I was expecting (Nokia arne't going to win any design awards vs their competitors.)
I thought the keyboard was OK, but not amazing. I thought the screen and touchscreen element were very good and some of the apps pretty impressive.
However, there were a lot of little bugs - eg it decided to delete my text...

N series first with 3.5-inch touchscreen that are complete multimedia phone
one thing that is very feasible to make N97 be used as entertainment center is a touch screen 3.5-inch wide screen 16:9 format. Create a type-like type, there is a sliding QWERTY keyboard (similar to Windows Mobile-based phone). Of course, the virtual touch input can still be used. For button, use only the three lines of the space, but there is no button number retired. This can not be making or problem at all. Screen...
