“No problems at all”

I have had my valiant eco tec pro 28 for 9 years when installed I used Hep 2o the whole system is done in barrier pipe once installed I still gave it 2 hot flushes then put in 2 litres of sentinel inhibitor I also installed a magnaclean on the return, every service the magnaclean is checked very little magnetite on the magnet, the condense trap is also cleaned out it is also quite clean. If your system is installed correctly and serviced every year then it should give you years of reliability.

“not good”

★☆☆☆☆

written by vasiliki-annaterzopoulou on 21/02/2019

It has had a lot of problems - pressure always low- heating up radiators and hot water issues, timeclock issue, noisy boiler and then pipe burst in the boiler room, too many issues - right from the start it did not seem connected well to radiators and pressure was low. 2 years later it made an awful loud noise in the night around 3 in the morning I believe my tenants said and a pipe burst in the boiler room it was winter but whether the CH was on or not I do not know. Radiators were not coming on properly - 4 and 5 years later 7 years on and we wonder whether now after over 400 worth of PRV, Expansion vessel, Heat Plate exchanger being changed - what will happen next !!!!!!! Disastrous choice....................... do not buy it it is low end thing

“Bad quality boiler”

★☆☆☆☆

written by LondynJohnson59 on 13/04/2018

Our boiler (eco TEC pro 28) broke down two days ago. It is new and only installed 1.5 years ago. We currently have no hot water and no heating and with two young children and elderly parents here at the weekend from aboard, the earliest time slot that Vaillant was able to come out is Monday - 3 whole days away. For a brand that is supposedly good quality, it is very disappointing to experience a breakdown so soon. Vaillant is unable to provide quick customer service nor a good quality product.

After around 20 years service, I decided it was about time I ungraded my Combi Boiler and an installer recommended a Vaillant ecoTEC Pro 28. Bad choice! I have had a few problems and, less than 3 years old, it is now constantly venting water and I have been quoted £499 for a major repair.

“f75 fault code pressure fail no hot water ECOTEC PRO 28”

★☆☆☆☆

written by trafalgarnelson1805 on 07/03/2015

here we are again its such a common fault your ecotec pro fails due to pressure issue and you now have no hot water and the house gets cold ,this coming Monday will be the third since the plumber/heating engineer called so I hope he will be here this coming Monday 8/3/2015,if I top the boiler up the pressure will read 2.9 or 3 bar before the boiler will start and of course as hot water expands the analogue dial goes well into the red 3.5 or even 3.6 so you can imagine due to the pressure I could expect a leak somewhere SO GETTING SCARED TO SWITCH THE COMBI ON is this outfit fit for purpose / it was new something like 5 years ago and this is not the first breakdown yet vaillant are rated very high, 3 weeks is a long time to wait for a repair I think the sensor ,prv(pressure relief valve and possibly the pressure vessel itself may all need replacement I will log on again to let you folks know what happens watch this space LOLOLOLOLOL AND REALLY ITS NOT A LAUGHING MATTER THIS IS URGENT AND SERIOUS ECOTEC PRO MODEL 28

someone told me this boiler is the best. from reading all the comments after buying villant boiler now fitted. Im not so sure. And if I had come on this site before installing something that aint even good then whats worth the value. I must hear that A boiler has its positives... ive had a full installment of radiators and a boiler,I had a very old boiler behind a gas fire for ages. Never broke down. I guess everything is made with plastic these days. Im disappointed. I just hope I dont get negative stuff from my "new" boiler.

written by Brielle471 on 08/05/2014

Had this boiler along with a full central heating system fitted 3 months ago. The boiler has broken twice so far ( F.75 and S.98 fault) needs a replacement pump and sensor already. Vaillant engineer not able to come out to fix boiler for three day. This leaves my young family without heating or water until the following week. Really poor product along with a poor warranty after care service. DON'T BUY THIS Product!

“A Complete Piece of Rubbish ”

★★☆☆☆

written by disgruntled40 on 13/01/2014

My boiler, only just 3 years old was attended to on 11/1/2014 to an external water leak; the third time in 4 months. This gas engineer having removed the casing showed me inside which was quite shocking. He said the boiler had been leaking for quite some time (but not externally) hence the corrosion/caulking of pipework and joints. It is needing new seals which may not sound a lot in the scheme of thing but the amount of work involved in placing these seals will be quite considerable. Would I recommend from my experience - definitely Not. In fact, I would not have another installed Free of Charge.

Did this boiler have a MagnaClean fitted. You will
Find the Majority of faults on new boilers are because the installers
Can't be bothered to flush the systems out properly and
Don't fit a filter.

Yes, it has MagnaClean and the system was thoroughly flushed at the time of installation and has a filter.
As well as two new seals, a new diverter was necessary. The 'old' diverter is made up of 'plastic' material, hardly any wonder it has worn and become corroded. The new one is very noticeably solid brass.

This isn't a fault with the boiler; any newly installed boiler or system will be prone to air population until the system settles; generally the installer would show and and explain to the customer/end user how to do this. This is not a fault or failure with the boiler.

“A very nice reliable boiler”

★★★★★

written by GasTechnicalServices on 22/06/2013

As an Gas Installer with over 40 years experience I only install Vaillant EcoTEC Boilers and in particular I install a large number of the Vaillant EcoTEC Pro range. The boiler is very well engineered, easy to service and exchange parts and very reliable (If it is installed properly). I have read some of the reviews and can only conclude that the installer has not fully flushed the existing system and fitted a magnaclean or similar. F75 fault code has been mentioned and is a sure sign that the system has not been flushed and debris has got into the flow switch on the boiler. So many times customers go for the cheapest quote. Even the best boiler in the world will fail if it is poorly installed. I have a Vaillant EcoTEC Pro in my own home and install around 4 a month. I give a full 2 year warranty complete with a free service at the end of the first two years, with the offer of a full maintenance contract at the end of the 2 year warranty, and I am very confident with the product. I certainly get no repeat calls for breakdowns on this product. Do not accept the cheapest quote.....make sure that the installer is going to carry out a full system power flush using the appropriate equipment, and ask for references........There is nothing wrong with Vaillant Boilers, they are the best..fit the best and get the best to fit it, then you will have a reliable boiler.

Before I can give you accurate advice I would need to know more. Most of the Vaillant EcoTEC Plus Range will deal with 13 Radiators with ease. The main thing here is your hot water requirements. I note that you have two bathrooms with showers. If there is a likelyhood of these being used simultaneously then a Combination boiler is going to pose a problem with hot water delivery. So you may need to look at their range of system boilers feeding a hot water storage cylinder. The selection would then depend on whether the existing system is vented or unvented, and whether your existing hot water cylinder meets the requirements of the Building Regulations which came into effect in April 2005. Really you need to find a good company in your area, who will call round and do a free survey to give you accurate advice. Sorry if this sounds a little unhelpful, but there is a lot to consider before a decision is made.

Many thanks for this reassuring review. I have just had one fitted my housing association and look forward to long service and reduced bills. We have till now had an ancient bespoke Heat 2000 Robinson-Wiley back boiler which has returned gas bills of some £233 per month. N o I don't live in a mansion devoid of windows - it's an old (1834) two-up-two-down terraced factory house.

Thankfully, the engineers installing the system have carried out a robust power-flush and clean of the old system and ensured it is totally drained. So I hope the new Vaillant EcoTec Pro 28 will be error-code free.

“Total rubbish do not buy. WATCHDOG PLEASE HIGHLIGHT ON TV”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 20/05/2013

I had a vaillant eco tec pro28 fitted in january 2013. I have had 4 vaillant engineers out already. Firstly it would not warm the radiators up even after being on two and half hours. Then noticed same again. Then had new pump and pcb fitted, then noticed boiler went to sleep on heating side when the hot tap had been run even for a short period ( no heating 10mins after the tap has been run). This is not just the usual event of how a combi works by diverting the power to hot water over heating. This is a ten minute lag every time up wash your hands or anything so as you can imagine in a normal houshold the temperature drops significantly. I was told by a vaillant engineer that this is due to its energy efficiency. I asked why my house gets bloody cold with a brand new radiator and was told i needed to set it to come on an hour earlier than i already did so when the heating goes to sleep when we dare run a tap the house would be warm enough. Thats energy efficiency for you. A engineer admitted to me that there is a problem with these boilers and he was sick of having to lie to customers about them. DONT BUY ONE OF THESE. Anybody else having the same problems out there?

I had mine fitted in March of this year by inheat uk as part of the new government scheme for pensioners in reciept of pension credit.. I never had a peoblem with my old combi but because it was coming up to 11 years old I was advised to change to one of the condensing boilers. The pressure drops eveyday. I do not have a leak on any of the rads. There are no taps on the loop just screws. The top one doesnt tighten at all, it just goes round and round and the bottom one has been turned on and off so many times the thread is wearing out and it is so tight I have to depend on my next door neighbour to do it as I have arthritis in my fingers and I am a woman. I have phoned inheat uk and they are dragging their heels about coming out. Meanwhile I have no hot water and as for efficiency, this is the first time in my life I have been in debt with my gas company. Any advice would be welcome. I am thinking of going to citizens advice.

Well said. So much for German Engineering. My boiler is not yet 3 years old and is leaking. Unfortunately I cannot have it fixed as the cost is prohibitive.
My first boiler was 25 years old. It had two full services and one minor repair. It certainly wasn't a Vaillant. My second boiler was 13 years old - had one full service and one minor repair. Replaced by current Vaillant because kitchen was being altered.
I cannot recommend this boiler.

“not happy not happy not happy needs a redesign unreliable”

written by trafalgarnelson1805 on 18/03/2013

okay so when its working fine but in three years its had 3 faults all f75 sensor fault,so they should have solved the problem as its a common one as I,ve read complaints from others,so if your heating and hot water are dependent on this system it must be reliable,my most recent experience f75 again ,phoned for engineer to come out promise was between" 8am and one pm we will be there" no one came,so I pressed the starter and it came on great,so I phoned the engineer centre they said"we cant come out if its no longer faulty" no apology for non appearence, anyway the same day as I returned home the redlight back on and you guessed it f75,this is not a cheap combi boiler and known faults should have a proper replacement if it does not work we should have not just a fix that does not last but a complete replacement or money back, whats the economy if extra service calls are required,so if the technology is not fit for purpose tell us we can expect these problems, service engineers are specialists I will not name them as that might be unfair, but vaillent need to sharpen up their act,I,m sat here in the middle of a cold night no thanks to them, and I fully expect it to go wrong again its inspected /serviced every year but I think its unreliable, ecotec pro 28 dont buy these products unless you get an assurance that these bugs have been fixed,or get an extended g/tee ot maybe buy another make of combi boiler they cant all be lemons

since I wrote that review the boiler has performed ok and its now mid summer so I dont use the boiler much,I think the problem could be allievated by magnetic filters and power flush,so I would advise anyone thinking of getting a new boiler to see to these points, its very annoying when your boiler shuts down, some old systems ie back boiler behind the gas fire are still working after 50 years they just need an annual service check and cleaning hopefully combi boilers will be updated and become more reliable

An F75 fault code, is the water pressure switch indicating low water pressure or the sensor not seeing suffice not pressure increase when the integral pump starts up; generally this is caused by magnetite in the system water, caused by poor or incorrect flushing by the installation company, or the customer not using their heating regularly during the summer months, causing increased levels of corrosion to occur.
This is not a fault of the boiler,, just a safety control activating to prevent damage being caused either to the heat exchanger or to the pump.
Why does everybody blame the boiler, when it is generally the system or the actions of the customer cause the boiler to fail.
The boiler is the only part of the system that has sensors to indicate failure.

boiler buddys post is fair,I know about the oxides from magnetie now and flushing and magnetic filters and perhaps systems should be used at reguler intervals during the summer months, but the trade should tell the consumers instead of leaving them in ignorance, its not rocket science,we consumers deserve some respect and helpful information,I think magnetic filters should be a must, flushing should be advised at what intervals I leave to the trade

This info is in the manufacturers instructions reference flushing of existing systems; even new systems will require cleansing due to oil residue when pipes are extruded/rads are pressed, etc.
The boiler is the only clean part on an installation; they
don't even see water when manufactured as they are only subject to an air test on the hydraulic assembly/electronics are tested through a loop test, so when/if a boiler fails after installation, 100% time it is due to the installer not working to industry standards/M.I.'s, or a poor system not being flushed adequately enough.
Magnetic filters are good, but are not the be all and end all and are not to be used in place of proper flushing; they are a preventitive measure only. They will help prevent further formation, but the heating system needs a regular period of use for the filter to assist.

“In 3 months boiler has stopped working twice!!”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 04/03/2013

I had this boiler fitted in late November 2012 and it has now stopped working twice, both times with code F28/F29 and when I've rung the helpline the automated message said it is due to the low temperature and frozen water in condenser pipe and to fit a boiler boy - in other words throw more money at it.The low temperature yesterday when it stopped working was 3/4 degress - not even a minus figure!! This is obviously a known problem so it should be fixed at source and not left to the consumer to sort out once fitted. When you buy a new boiler you shouldn't be having to add extras to it, it should be in good working order.

Boilerbuddy's Comment

Written on: 02/12/2013

The condense waste pipe work should be terminated internally of the property; if it terminates externally, there is an increased risk of the condense waste water freezing, causing the F28/F29 error. This is not a fault of the boiler, but of the installation. You can have the external condensate waste pipe ice plug causing the blockage, even though the external temp rises, the ice plug remains until you physically defrost it by using warm water, not boiler, as just out of a kettle. If your pipe work is not insulated, again this will increase the chances of freezing up.

“Rolls-Royce? More like Lada!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Doctormoja on 18/01/2013

The people that installed this Vaillant ecoTEC Pro 28 in December 2012 told me that it was a German design, and it was the 'Rolls-Royce' of its kind. Its not. Adjusting the various temperatures is just about impossible, at least using the methods 'explained' in the manual. The manual is also useless when the water pressure drops below the minimum, so you have to call out a service mechanic, and that can take a long time. So far - and its only been about five weeks, the best I can say about this Lada of boilers is that its adequate when its working, but it does not always work. I would not touch this product, or the firm that sell it, with a barge pole.

Thats a insult to Ladas,
Ive had a ecotec pro 28 for two years now and its cost me a fortune mainly with this F75 problem and every technician that comes out says the same "the best on the market" What a joke maybe when it works but in my eyes reliability is the major factor with boilers and honestly if it didnt have gas going to it i would have got my sledgehammer to it on more than one occasion. If you want to compare this boiler to modes of transport i suggest a pushbike.
I honestly cant find a good word to say about this boiler apart from it looks good hanging on my wall.

A Rolls-Royce will break down just as any other engineered product. Because it is well engineered, you also need to have a professional install and maintain it. You can have a cheaper branded boiler fitted by a good installer, which generally be better than a expensive top of the range boiler fitted by a cheaper installer, which will generally not be as good if they fail to flush and commission the boiler as per the manufactures recommendations, because it will save them some time. Installing the boiler is usually the quickest part, commissioning including flushing the system is the time consumer; that's why so many complaints get made!

If you have a Rolls Royce or Bentley you don't take it to your local backstreet garage for a service. Finely engineered cars and boilers require fine engineers to install and service them. The F75 fault code is commonly reported but that does not meen the boiler is at fault, more likely the old system was not properly cleaned and flushed prior to installation of the new boiler. It's imperative that thorough flushing (with a product such as Magnaclean) is carried out prior to installation. otherwise this finely engineered piece of German engineering will splutter and fail just as if you'd put diesel in your Rolls Royce.

And just as many of us upgrade our car filters to a superior K&N unit to keep it in tip-top performance, then you might wish to have installed a Magna Clean filtration system to protect your Vaillant (or other) unit from the debris and precipitates which can accumulate in the central heating system.

If you want a reliable boiler pay the extra have it powerfluhed and fit a magnetic filter. I have been installing Vaillant for 4 years now I also install Worcester I find them both reliable because I flush my systems and install magnetic filters & inhibitor no call backs job done....

Could not agree more. I get no call backs to the ones I install, but get numerous calls to boilers (Not just the EcoTEC) that have not long been installed and have broken down......usually due to the system not being flushed correctly, or poor quality of installation.

Correct installation 1st time, and you have eliminated most chances of a breakdown.

Superb advice. Too many people blame the Vaillants and Worcesters for failing and displaying fault codes, without realising it was the installation and not the kit that short-changed them.
