I've used HIFX in both the UK and Australia. I would say there customer service is the best I've come across in Australia and even pretty good by UK standards. I really haven't been able to fault HIFX at all, always happy to help you, service is always efficient. Exchange rate is always a lot better than the banks and also paypal. HiFX's service could be greatly improved in my opinion. I signed up for a few foreign exchange brokers for a one-off money transfer. The process is self-explanatory. Before you begin, make sure that you have your bank details - SWIFT IBAN etc - (for the sending and receiving bank)readily available. HIFX uses an intermediate bank to handle the incoming foreign currency. Ensure that you have the details of this. Really disappointing, they are claiming that its cheaper than any bank but its actually untrue! For amount of 63 euros I paid them 9 ponds transaction fee but company I was paying to received 53 euros because some of the "middle" people charger additional 10 euros. So all together its more expensive then any bank (most of them charge 17 pounds for transaction plus other side receive exact amount without embarrassment). Their exchange rates were competitive and they were readily able to cope that our French bank ended up sending more money than they had originally declared. I have been using HiFX since 2008 for business transfers, I have always found them to be very efficient, especially now with the online payment option it's quick, simple and easy to use. The transfer itself is quick and never any problems. The exchange rate is good and there are no hidden costs. I registered on-line using the Post Office for their 'free' service if that makes a difference to the response I could expect. Nothing came back for ages with a Client Number to log-in. Finally logged-in but still no facility to transfer anything yet. HiFX said they'd ring me back this morning to sort it out, but of course no one ever rings back. Set up an account on the phone in 5 minutes and then got rates on-line. The account is then managed exclusively on-line so the rates are better as you're not paying for people to constantly answer the phones. This shows in the rates quoted.
