Good Points: Multi Region out the Box
Never ever skips even on scratched disks
full RGB 21 pin SCART output
    Cheap as Chips

Bad Points: I sometimes have to change to a different channel and then quickly back again on my TOSHIBA 5.1 TV to get the 5.1 DD to kick in. This is not the case with other DD DVD players I have used. If I don't I sometimes get no sound or very loud digital white noise. This only happens once at the very start of a movie though.

General comments: I bought my Alba DVD114 DVD Player for £25! Last year and it is the best player I have ever used. at the time I had been using 2 much posher and more expensive players at my home but after 3 months of use they both started to skip on perfectly good disks even new ones out the box after about an hour of play! So I thought I would unpack the Alba and give it a go. What I found was an easy to set up region free (out the box) fully loaded RGB DVD Player with a coaxial digital output just waiting to be plugged in next to my SKY+ optical input of the back of my TV. I found that the coaxial digital overrided the optical input so I do have to push the phono in when I want to watch a DVD and not sky in DD (Dolby Digital) but as with the white noise problem this is a TV compatibility issue and nothing to do with the DVD player. I have never had any trouble playing anything on it... dvdr dvdrw +/- cdr cdrw vcd mp3 on cd/dvd but to be honest 99% of the time I am using commercial DVDs and CDs so there could be problems I don't know about. I work in a video rental shop and a lot of the time I have to take disks that have been returned 'faulty' home to test before we write them off and in the last year my Alba player has not skipped even once on these disks. If you have a dd and dts decoder or just want a player that does what is says on the tin then go for this one you will not beat it for under £200.

Very impressed! Only bought my Alba DVD114 because it was the only one to play VCDs but I am now totally hooked on DVDs!
I've had the machine for about 18 months or so now - it's still going strong which is great for such a lower-priced machine.
Very easy to use so it's good buy for anyone new to DVDs.
    A nice, simple machine!

I have to say I am very impressed with my 114. It's played everything I've put it it. I have even burned my own DVD+RW discs and managed to play them in this player without any probs. It also seems to be multiregion as I've played Region 1 DVDs in it as well as the usual Region 2. I've also used it to play my own video cds which I have burned onto CDR and CDRW. MP3s play well through it as well. If connected to a home cinema system via the coaxal or optical outputs, the sound is fantastic. I hig ...

Must agree with all reviews, a fantastic dvd player. I need to know if anyone has a hack or an idea on recording onto video to get rid of the macro vision. I always get the usual mess on the playback of the recording. Any help would be useful.

I ordered a Bush DVD2023 from a mail order catalogue, but they were out of stock. They said they would send a replacement. It turned out to be the Alba DVD114.
I wanted one that played multi region as I have a friend in USA who can ship me DVD's.
I saw this website, and read the reviews on this machine.
I just got a R1 DVD off ebay, and was pleasently surprised to find that what I read was true. The DVD played with no problem.
I had got a code off ebay to make the machine multi regional, bu ...

Took back my Pacific DVD-750 after a friend got one of these. Looks much better, plays VCDs, build quality 100 times better than Pacific and it's multi-region out of the box. Quite simply brilliant for under £70. So now I am £20 up with a better machine, nice one!! Anyone know a macro hack for this machine though??

Just bought this bargain DVD player from Argos (£69). Wanted an Alba 108 but was given DVD114 instead - no complaints as it's absolutely brilliant. Plays everything I've tried incl. SVCDs and Region 1 DVDs. It's multiregion by default. You could pay twice as much and still have an inferior DVD player.

This Alba DVD114 DVD player does it all. DVD's multi region, CDs, MP3s, VCDs and SVCDs. Oh, and it plays CD-R and CD-RW. This is an absolute bagain.

I bought my Alba DVD114 DVD player from Argus for under £70. It has played everything I have placed in its tray, although the instructions say Region 2 only it plays them all. It also comes with an RGB lead for instant connection. Buy from Argus, if you're not happy take it back within 16 days and get your money back. I'm very pleased with my purchase - IT WILL NOT BE GOING BACK

What a bargain this Alba DVD114 DVD player is. I bought this yesterday in the UK for £69.95 inc VAT. It plays DVD's, VCD's, SVCD's, DVD-R's, DVD-RW's and MP3 CD's. Not only that, but it is multi-regional straight out of the box, which means it does not need a "hack" or "chip" to play DVD's from the USA etc...

Picture quality is fine and the player is very easy to use... as for value for money... best I've seen!

This Alba DVD114 DVD player is very good value for money. It plays DVD's, VCD's and even MP3 encoded CDR's that more expensive players will refuse to play. It also has an RGB SCART connection for clear pictures and PHONO/Optical digital sound output. The remote lets the whole package down, but what more can you really get for £85?

It does exactly what it says on the tin. The Alba DVD114 is a cheap DVD player that also plays VCD's and music CD's. If you buy one of these players so you can access the extra features that DVD's offer over video tapes, and a higher quality of picture to boot, then you won't go far wrong. Expect it to make popcorn and dispense coke for this sort of money and you'll be disappointed because it won't. Overall a reasonable entry level DVD player.
