THE BEST MOBILE PHONE EVER MADE (OR PROBABLY EVER WILL BE, SEEING THE THE RISE OF TOUCHSCREEN SMARTPHONES) The thing is; Do you want to speak to someone, or do you want to play arround with a minicomputer ? Although it very tempting to lose yourself in helpfull, funny, smart or interesting apps, the problem is, is that you'r kidding yourself. You are just bumming around. I'm a collector of mobile phones and have handled most of all phones. so far to date. manufactured. The Nokia 6301i, to date, is by far the best ever designed phone. On pure basic performance this phone can not be beaten, cult status, no; nothing deserves this sort of status. Yet this phone deserves something and that is to be kept in use out of respect for it's great designe and practicability of use. (read more)

The Nokia 6310i is the best phone ever made. It rightly enjoys real cult phone status. It's indestructible, and when all else fails ( like your iPhone or my Samsung Omnia and Blackberry ) it will come out of the bottom of my bag and be working in seconds. It doesn't do GPS, think it's a camera or a spirit level. It just does phone text and data as nothing else can. (read more)

Excellent battery life. I do believe it once went without charge for a full week.. probably not now though (after 5 years).
Its a mobile phone... that doesn't require its charger for a long weekend city break in Milan.

No word of a lie. Its been on a full 60 degree fast spin cycle in my Hotpoint (when it works) and having spent 8 hours on a radiator looks and feels like new (non bio)... not recommended though. (read more)

There's a reason why you'll see business men and women the world over carrying this handset when it comes to acting as a phone above anything else, it's the best at its job. This workhorse has a huge memory and battery life and does everything you need (like email and Bluetooth) without all the bells and whistles. An extremely solid performer.

Nokia 6310i - Face it this is a serious business phone. It's bells and whistles like ring tones, WAP and games are not up to much, but the bluetooth, infrared port, memory, battery and signal make it a great no-nonsense phone.

Nokia 6310i - Being responsible for about 100 active mobile phones to our staff during about 10 years, I can surely say that the 6310i is one of the very best...maybe next to the old 5110 which was remarkable in many respects..

My 6310i works well with the cable and iRDA. Modem works fine but I am restricted to 9.6kbps (due to service provider). Never had any problem.
Nokia software works well with the phone. Able to sync my Outlook address book with the phone. Therefore do not require 3rd party software.

This is a fault that sometimes happens to older 6310's (it hasn't yet happened to my 6310i) and is because the battery becomes loose in its fitting, especially if you are using a spare and keep swapping them over.

I to have the same problem. The loose battery is nothing to do with ot. That was a fault on the old 6210. I have had 2 6310's and 6 6310i's and all do the same thing. They power off and then on straight afterwards. You then have to wait for about 30 second for the sim card to find itself before getting into the address book. Several of my colleagues also experience the sam fault. I am a very heavy user of the phone, maybe 6 hours per day and also use it in a car kit, which may be associated with the fault.

Same here, I have had a 6210 which did this, and thought that the 6310i had it fixed (there is a now a small bar in the back of the phone to put more tension on the battery). However, after about 4 months of having the 6310i, it started switching itself off - sometimes in mid conversation. It does happen more when coming out of the Nokia Car Handsfree kit, but still really annoying for a phone of this calibre. I have put a small piece of cardboard to hold the SIM card more securely, and this seems to have fixed it - so far!

I have had 4 6310 and 2 6310i, and to be quite honest, the quality of this product has to be questioned. I mean a piece of cardboard to fix a 200-euro + phone is a bit much. All of the 6310/6310i family I have had, had the same problems as stated in the other reviews. it just looses signal in mid conversation, while in a stationary position. It powers on/off for no reason. More so in the in car kit. It keeps looking for the sim for about 60 seconds while trying to access the inbox, even though the memory is set to phone, but even then it doesn't save to it. All in this entire phone is poo.

The bottom line is, if you want a cute little phone with colour screen that can display cute little images and has cute little ringtones, then go right ahead and get yourself a T68i etc. If you want a phone however that delivers big time on performance and with an outstanding battery that just never seems to die, then this phone is a winner. Vinceone's Response to 76579_Rob.'s Review

Written on: 04/10/2004

I agree with all the reviews I have read about the overall quality of the 6310i - BUT, there are times when I cannot get the thing to switch on, and it can be like this for several hours - even a whole day! The annoying thing about this, is that it is that there is just no power to the phone, even though it is fully charged, and it is quite obvious from the blank screen that it is not switching on, and not that you might just be in an area where you can't get a signal.
<br>
<br>Does anyone have good advice on this problem?

Davej's Response to 76579_Rob.'s Review

Written on: 27/10/2004

I decided to go for the 6310i in the end. On the whole I've been fairly happy with it and have used it successfully as a GPRS modem, talking to my Sharp Zaurus PDA over Bluetooth.
<br>
<br>However one or two people have told me they get more problems connecting to my phone than anyone else's, even when the phone is showing a good signal. And last night I switched the phone off and it has refused to switch back on since. Blank screen, no sign of life (battery is 3/4 full), doesn't even show the charging animation when the charger is plugged in. It's just past 12 months old.
<br>
<br>Overall I'd say a well-specified phone which works well when it works, but which has reliability problems. And makes an embarrassing bulge in your trouser pocket!

I am a great fan of nokia (mainly the menu Structure)Had most nokia phone since the analogue Cityman 100 (mind you that was bad but old). I am glad to see someone else having problems connecting other items to the phone. I have never managed to get any nokia working as a modem via lead or irda. I can get 3rd party software such as logo manager to connect to my 6210, 5110, 8210, 8310, 7210 but never the nokia data suite. This has been a problem i've had over the years on different pc's and with different versions of software. I have just got to the point of giving up and not expecting the stuff to work. I am about to get the 6310 now to try this blue tooth stuff, because in my view the 6210 is by far the quickest and best phone i've used so if the 6310 is an improvement then you can keep your colour screens and gimmicky cameras i want a phone thats a phone!!!! Pack it with features please, but not to the extent that the phone slows to a grinding halt when viewing texts or locks up at the drop of a hat.

If you replace an 8210 with a 6310 it's going to seem big. However, the "brick" comment is just wrong - as a former 6210 user (same size, slightly heavier, and a much better phone than my current Moto V66) I know that it's easily pocketable, a nice size in the hand, and it does its job well. Nokia has done it, the perfect (or as near as you can get) phone for the professional and gadget geek! Professionals will love the design and sleek look of the phone. The gadget geek (being one myself) will love the features, bluetooth and the Java to write applications for! When I first saw this phone in person, I fell in love with it. I upgraded from a Nokia 8390 to the 6310i and there is no looking back. I loved the 8390 due to its size and did not think I was ever going to go back to a... (read more)

I guess I am lucky in that I have the v5.10 firmware. I have not had any more problems other than what I stated in the above review. Even that problem has not shown up again.
I was told to "reset" the phone by powering the phone completely on. Then removing the battery while the power was on. Leave the battery out for a minimum of 1 hour. Re-install the battery and pwer the phone completely ON, then OFF, and then on again.
I don't know exactly HOW it was supposed to work when doing the above, but it did and I am happy. I have not been able to replicate the issue I had before.
Thanks!

I replaced my 6210 with this one, it has great features, but I faced the following bugs: 1. Sometimes a single SMS is received, but the screen shows: 2 messages received), in the Inbox, you find the new message in addition to a previously received message but marked as unread! 3. Written on: 25/10/2002 by adicos.

Hello guys,
I got this Nokia 6310i mobile phone about 3 weeks ago, it's a company phone. I was waiting these 3 weeks to check all the capabilities of the phone and I am very, very impressed.
I have been using a lot of cell phones in the last 6 years, but my favourite is Nokia for a lot of reasons. And of all the Nokia phones I've ever tested, the 6310i is by far the best one.
I'm a techy guy, so I'll give you some facts (said by the producer-Nokia) and then my personal opinion.

From nomal user functions I am disappointed:
1. No auto keylock
2. Countdown timer only in minutes no seconds
3. Sent messages cannot be reviewed unless you saved them before sending.
4. Call duration not displayed while call in progess.
All the above are standard on old phones like the Ericsson R320S. If it was not for bluetooth I'd can this phone.

Written on: 11/10/2002 by Prashant Kedia.

I have recently changed my nokia 6210 to the all new nokia 6310i (v 4.80) made in Germany.

What a mistake I made. It was great to look at - sleek, thin battery, nice lighting, silver color.

but the menu was too slow as compared to a 6210. The buttons are too soft to fast type an sms and the nightmare was - the phone just rebooted while sending or receiving an sms. That was it. I had to give it back to the dealer, after a deduction in the refund price.

After setting the wallet code i... (read more)

Hi. I also bought a Nokia 6310i phone here in Singapore. Firware is V4.8 also. IMEI 350984-20-624386-8. IMEI TAC is 20, hence, also made in Germany. The phone was customized for Orange(UK). For 1 week of using the phone, there were 2 instances where the phone TURNED ITSELF OFF and THEN ON again instantaneously. But the menus were fast. And there is however an option to clear the whole text instantly without holding down the clear button.
Similarly to you, I also experienced the instantaneous turning OFF and ON. I don't know how many more times I will experience it. I hope I don't again.

From my experience of the nokia 6210 i was never going to buy anything that would replace it. From switching off suddenly and a loose battery cover it was a real nightmare. BUT the nokia 6310i is like chalk and cheese compared to the 6210. great functions with excellent features - probably the best phone i've come across and worth the extra expense. It is quite difficult to locate Nokia 6310i mobile phones that are made in Germany. Luckily I found one in Manila Phils. The Asian made 6310i, however, is not as good. Truly an excellent travel phone for talk or heavy texting - this one has it all! Although the T68i has Digi. cam option, 6310i has the edge in every aspects. I would expect the upcoming Nokia 6610 with colored screen will be a killer phone in this category. (read more)

The screen too has a good blue hue and the buttons light up, just the right amount. The speech quality is excellent. The menu selection is faster than the previous 6210. My years contract finally expired so that I could get rid of my SL45. Worse phone I've ever owned! I decided to upgrade to the T68i. Big mistake. Reception was appalling. Had this on a two week trial and decided to go back to a Nokia. Used to have a 3310.

Inital impressions was positive. After suffering an SL45 for a year, and then a T68i, I was so happy to finally have a decent phone again. Ok, the phone doesn't have the gizmos and colour of other phones, but if you just want a phone that... (read more)

I recently upgraded my nokia 3310 to an ericsson t68i. It was between this one, the nokia 6310i and the nokia 3510i. As the 3510i didn't have enough text msgs for me and i thought the 6310i looked a bit dull in comparison with t68i i got the latter. I'm now in the middle of my 2 week trial and although it's a nice phone i much prefer the nokia format. I don't know whether to persist with this one or change it to nokia 6510i but i only got a few days left to decide!!!

Written on: 22/07/2002 by Shahar Steiff.

Being a veteran mobile phone user - the Nokia 6310i is certainly one of the best phones I have seen and used. It may not be as slick as the Ericsson T39. It may not be as colorful as the Ericsson T68i. It may not have the design of the Motorola V.70. It may not have PDA features or MMS or Color, but it delivers big time.
To start with - it is a Nokia. For those looking for a tri-band phone - this is the only 3-band Nokia available to date. And the name Nokia means a lot: intuitive menus,... (read more)

How can you call yourself a veteran mobile telephone user when you have had nothing to do with Wap or GPRS?
Also, to state that the mobile phone itself holds 500 numbers - a standard sim card holds 99.

55989_Shahar Steiff.'s Response to Shahar Steiff.'s Review

Written on: 05/12/2002

A response to Mr. Roberts.
I beleive that 8 years of use of mobile phones made by Nokia, Ericsson, Motorola and others, using nAMPS, CDMA, TDMA and all three flavours of GSM (900, 1800, 1900) give one some perspective as to the advantages of one phone over the other. True, I haven't used WAP or GPRS extensively (and this is the third WAP enabled and second GPRS enabled phone I have used so far). I use my phones for the simple task of speaking with customers, suppliers, colleagues and family. I travel the world and often do not have the ability to recharge the phone overnight. I do not use WAP or GPRS because I can not make use of them everywhere and it is cheaper to hookup my laptop at the hotel than hookup my palm device vie GPRS (where available). Besides - I can not afford a dead phone (which had happened to me on my "old" Ericsson T39m).As stated - I am not the guy looking for gizmos such as color or PDA abilities on the phone. SMS is more than enough for me for the simple reason that I know that it is supported on 99.99% of the mobile phones in the world. What good will MMS or EMS do if the person to whom the info is sent can not read it?
This is a workhorse for people who need a phone that works everywhere on the globe and don't want to bother with rentals, call-forwarding etc.
Last comment - 600 numbers for a phone, even when 500 of them are stored in the phone memory and only 99 in the SIM is a huge leap forward compared to some of my previous models that had anywhre between 10-99 numbers stored, some even with no name attached (such as the antique Motorola Alphas). Yes, I know, during the six months since this review had been composed there are new phones available that can store the complete NYC yellow-pages...

The Nokia 6310i is everything I want in a mobile phone. Battery life is great, and the combination of organiser features and downloadable midlets means I can do everything with the 6310i that i did with my Handspring visor. WAP is nice and fast. Not had any 'crashes' with the phone yet, (but then only had it 4 days). My only criticism really is that the menu doesn't appear to be as fast as my old 3310, and this slows down my normally lightening fast texting ability! But hey, I can live with... (read more)

The Nokia 6310i mobile phone is a nice improvement on the 6310 - the blue screen is very nice.

Function wise, this phone is very good with tri-band, bluetooth etc..

But it is the speed of response, for sms / phone book / calls which is where the phone stands out, especially compared to my T68, which takes ages to do these basic functions.

On the -ve side the phone is stil quite large and heavy. (read more)
