Being from Wakefield, I eat here all the time. I love authentic Indian food and have been to pretty much all of Wakefields restaurants.
I have to say that I have never had a bad experience at Mumbai as neither have many of my friends that are regular customers.
GREAT FOOD, GREAT SERVICE and GREAT PLACE...some of these other reviews on here look VERY susspiciouse! lol I think some of the competition may have been a bit busy...

Four of us ate there on Saturday night. It was pretty quiet for a Saturday night we thought, but it's really nice inside and the menus looked good. We'd seen a theatre production opposite the restaurant, so it was about 9:30pm and normally I would have expected it to be a bit busier in any restaurant than it apparently was.
We went straight to our table and that is where we ordered drinks: 2 beers, a bottle of wine and some plain tap water. The wine arrived but was just put on the table, uno ...- Read Hanks's review (573 words)

When we arrived there was no one around to get us seated, we waited for over 5 mins even the barman wouldn't acknowledge us. Food is fine for the price so if you don't mind eating in a restaurant which is under staffed and you don't mind hanging around for someone to acknowledge you then this is the place but I won't be dining at Mumbai restaurant again.- Read Guest's review (67 words)

Possibly the worst service I have ever encountered in a restaurant. Food was ok although the rice was slightly cold. Mumbai Restaurant waiters were clueless and service extremely slow. Would be surprised if any of the starters were freshly prepared. Seem to let anyone in whatever their state, which is surprising for a restaurant that claims to be upmarket.- Read Guest's review (59 words)

Initial impressions at the Mumbai Restaurant looked good. We all got sat down, ordered drinks and starters.
Cocktails (one reason to go there) were not available we were told. 1 hour later we all had our starters that to be fair were good quality.
Then the floor show began - a group of 8 drunken men arrived and were sat right in the middle of eating area and started making a scene. This ended with one of them being very sick in front of all the diners and then being removed - after they had paid ...- Read Guest's review (203 words)

The service at the Mumbai Restaurant was terrible. The food was below arverage, and wouldn't send my friends or family there. It was nicely decorated, but that is it. The drinks were expensive.- Read Guest's review (33 words)

I dined at Mumbai Restaurant, Wakefield last night with six friends and was not impressed at all. The only good thing about the place is the decor which is lovely. The food was very average. The waiter we had was quite possibly the rudest i have ever encountered and the service was appalling, the girls at the bar were friendly enough but a bit dizzy and unprofessional. I would not recommend at all. If you do decide to risk it here be sure to check your bill as everyones seemed to be wrong on the ...- Read Guest's review (99 words)

I visited 'mumbai' after being recommended this restaurant be several friends. I must say having read few other reviews on here I am suprised! This restaurant is definitely one of the best Indians I have had in a long time. It's about time Wakefield got a restaurant that could compete with the likes of many that are in Leeds and Bradford. The service was good, the place and decor is outstanding and the food was very tasty. It was good to speak to the owner who informed me that after the success ...- Read Guest's review (120 words)

I tried the Mumbai and have to say I found the whole experience underwhelming. On arrival despite the resteraunt being quiet, it was quite some time before we were offered a drink. When taken to the table we had the misfortune to be served by the most arrogant ignorant waiter I have encountered. Whilst taking our order he seemed completely disinterested, not surprisingly the order was wrong when it came. The wine glasses had been removed on us sitting down, which I found strange particularly as ...- Read alberto1's review (255 words and 1 comment)

I went with my husband for the early doors, two for one, at the beginning of April. The food was delicious, could have been just a little spicier; the waiters were very friendly, lovely decor. I am definitely going back again, I hope they have great success with this Mumbai Restaraunt Wakefield.Sue- Read Guest's review (53 words)

I visited the Mumbai after reading that it had won an award and was hugely disappointed by the whole experience. I thought my food was distintly average, quite oily, and I thought the bombay potatoes tasted as if they were made of timmed potatoes. I think there were also tinned mushrooms used in the dishes. I think the least you can expect from a restaurant charging above average prices, is good fresh ingredients. The waiters, although on hand, didn't crack a smile through our visit which was a ...- Read lisa621366's review (161 words)

Fantastic food - i'd go as far as saying that Mumbai Restaurant was one of the best Indian meals i have ever had - great value for money and good service.
We were charged for the pickle tray on the bill although we thought it was free and the wine was a little expensive plus we had to wait 20 minutes for our dessert order to be taken (although i did need that as i was full but been greedy)
brilliant and i would go back- Read Guest's review (85 words)

I dined at the Mumbai Restaurant Wakefield with my friend last weekend and had a great time, I have just read Woodie09's review (whoever he is) and I must say I disagree with everything he had to say. I think maybe he went to a different restaurant or has a family member working in a competing restaurant. I have lived in wakefield all my life and am so happy to see such a beautiful restaurant open that serves great authentic Indian food with Prices that are so good! Good luck Mumbai- can't with ...- Read Josephwakey's review (110 words and 1 comment)

I went to this restaurant as part of my works Christmas do. We spent four hours having a three course meal, having booked a set menu which included a glass of bubbly (but let's not call it Champagne) which was a nice touch. Then we were offered poppadoms and pickles, though only discovered later on, after we had settled the bill, that these had not been included in the price (though it does explain why this was actually more than it should have been, and not because we had miscalculated)
Starter ...- Read Woodie09's review (309 words)

The food was outstanding here, no dye used in a very authentic Tikka Masalla and the best Dhall i have ever had. The service was excellent and we felt we were genuinely welcome. With beautiful surroungings, comfortable chairs, and immaculate washrooms and reasonable prices, this is a restaurant i would definately go out of my way ti visit. I have enjoyed indian food in many U.K. city's for over thirty years and this is the best one yet. I highly recommend the Mumbai in Wakefield.
