I am a regular customer at Mumbai and I don't normally engage in reviews, however, I felt compelled to review this one. I am impressed with the ambience and the staff are always polite, efficient and friendly. The manager is always courteous and welcoming. The food is second to none and I can't rate this highly enough. There is always a good atmosphere and I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. (read more)

I am a regular customer at Mumbai, and have just been looking at some of the reviews I find it very hard to beleive what certain customers are saying. It makes you wonder if they are competitors! I always have fantastic food and the staff are always amazing, helpful and polite. In all the times I have eaten at Mumbai I have never seen any other customers complain or look unhappy. I recommend the place to all my friends and family and we all enjoy visiting Mumbai, keep up the good work. (read more)

Outastanding service. We were in there for my friends 21st Birthday. The waiters went above and beyond service, in every way possible. The manager was outstanding and so very polite. Serving the birthday girl personally both with food and drinks orders. On a whole the experience was above and beyond all expectation and the staff went the extra mile for the special occasion. This was the first time we had eaten at Mumbai and thankfully the last, We were sat at a table next to the dirty stairs and presented with a menu with mold growing on it. The one and only waiter took our order. Just after we had ordered the only other couple in the place were complaining about the quality of the food. I got to Mumbai a few times a month, dining with friends & family while also visiting with clients.
The food is always of a very high standard, you can tell the food is made fresh. A lot of indian food gives me heart-burn, but never from when I eat here. The dishes are always very tasty.
The Staff are always very frinedly, as is the manager who is always more than willing to take the time out to talk to customers.
The restaurant is very clean & smart & there is some fantastic dishes on...

I had been to the Mumbai twice before. On both occasions I'd had an excellent meal and was very satisfied with the service and the price. Last night however it was far from satisfactory.
We were shown to a table and got some popadoms more or less straight away and then we sat there twiddling our thumbs. Slow, poor service with mediocre food. The waiters could barely pronounce the dishes on the menu never mind recommend them. I've had Indian food in a few other restaurants in Wakefield and this was the lower end of the scale, though not what I would call "bad" food, but the sluggishness of the waiting staff and the relatively high prices make this place not worth visiting when there are so many better competitors

Fantastic place, food & warm service...I have several friends that visit Mumbai regularly and I am suprised at some of these other reviews on here...maybe some unhappy competitors!!! lol
There was 4 of us celebrating my girlfriends birthday and the manager brought us out a free dessert - all the staff made us very welcome and I liked the service which wasn't in your face but there was always a waitor there when you needed anything ;-)

My girlfriend and i have just been for a very good meal here. i would recommend this restaurant to other people without hesitation. The service was very good, as was the quality of food. The decor in the restaurant was tasteful and the overall atmosphere was relaxed.
Overall a good find and a restaurant we will be returning too.
The only down side was it was a little chilly, though i surpose it is January and i forgot my Christmas jumper!.

I invited my friends for the first time here and we found the service excellent, the surroundings stylish and comfortable. The staff were friendly and courteous. We didn't wait long for our food. The food was excellent and the manager recommened dishes to us which we hadn't tried before. This place is a real asset to Wakefield. We will all definately be returning! (read more)

Being from Wakefield, I eat here all the time. I love authentic Indian food and have been to pretty much all of Wakefields restaurants.
I have to say that I have never had a bad experience at Mumbai as neither have many of my friends that are regular customers.
GREAT FOOD, GREAT SERVICE and GREAT PLACE...some of these other reviews on here look VERY susspiciouse! lol I think some of the competition may have been a bit busy...

Four of us ate there on Saturday night. It was pretty quiet for a Saturday night we thought, but it's really nice inside and the menus looked good. We'd seen a theatre production opposite the restaurant, so it was about 9:30pm and normally I would have expected it to be a bit busier in any restaurant than it apparently was.

I'd just like to make it clear that I have run a restaurant, but I moved out of the hospitality retail trade in around 1998 having enjoyed many years in the business.

<br/>So for the benefit of anyone reading my review, I was not in a competitor business and have no axe to grind, it's simply a quite detailed review of the experience I and a few friends had.

<br/>I am a believer that you give businesses a chance. People do have bad days. However, there were a few people involved in our poor experience. I did write to the manager and to his credit, got a speedy response. He said he would discuss with his staff and get back to me in greater detail, but he never did come back to me in the detail promissed. When we arrived there was no one around to get us seated, we waited for over 5 mins even the barman wouldn't acknowledge us. Food is fine for the price so if you don't mind eating in a restaurant which is under staffed and you don't mind hanging around for someone to acknowledge you then this is the place but I won't be dining at Mumbai restaurant again. Possibly the worst service I have ever encountered in a restaurant. Food was ok although the rice was slightly cold. Mumbai Restaurant waiters were clueless and service extremely slow. Would be surprised if any of the starters were freshly prepared. Seem to let anyone in whatever their state, which is surprising for a restaurant that claims to be upmarket. (read more)

I dined at Mumbai Restaurant, Wakefield last night with six friends and was not impressed at all. The only good thing about the place is the decor which is lovely. The food was very average. The waiter we had was quite possibly the rudest i have ever encountered and the service was appalling, the girls at the bar were friendly enough but a bit dizzy and unprofessional. I tried the Mumbai and have to say I found the whole experience underwhelming. On arrival despite the resteraunt being quiet, it was quite some time before we were offered a drink. When taken to the table we had the misfortune to be served by the most arrogant ignorant waiter I have encountered. Whilst taking our order he seemed completely disinterested, not surprisingly the order was wrong when it came.

Looks like they haven't endeavoured to improve their service in the last 6 months or so.
<br/>One thing I didn't add to my review earleier in the year was that when we asked the manager about a discount which had supposedly been arranged whn we booked the meal he poo-pooed the idea saying that they didn't offer discounts because they didn't need to offer them. Sad to say this sort of arrogant attitude when not backed up by a good quality dining experience means you are unlikely to give this place the benefit of a second try

I visited the Mumbai after reading that it had won an award and was hugely disappointed by the whole experience. I thought my food was distintly average, quite oily, and I thought the bombay potatoes tasted as if they were made of timmed potatoes. I think there were also tinned mushrooms used in the dishes. Hi JosephworksatMumbai (whoever he is). I am not related to anyone at any restaurant, and I most certainly did go the the Mumbai. I resent the veracity of my comments being called into question. It is an opinion based on a real experience, and another opinion I hold is that restaurants should really address their own flaws, such as ensuring their waiting staff provide a reasonable standard of service, rather than trying to downplay negative comments on internet review sites

The food was outstanding here, no dye used in a very authentic Tikka Masalla and the best Dhall i have ever had. The service was excellent and we felt we were genuinely welcome. I think your spelling is actually more suspicious,. Well, that and the fact that you are an anonymous "reviewer" and don't mention a single negative point in the piece but do suggest other negative reviewers are working for competing restaurants, despite the fact that other reviewers do actually have a few good things to say about the Mumbai (though mostly pertaining to the decor which does indicate a case of style over substance). While you say that the competition has been busy, it would seem that Mumbai isn't if their management have time to try and offset a large number of deservedly poor reviews on a website. And why might Mumbai not be busy? Could it be as a result of poor service and mediocre food not encouraging return trade?
