  This is an update to my earlier review - two things I've seen other people mention: 'No spin only' - there is. You can either put in things like handwashed just to spin by switching on, not touching the programme knob, selecting the spin speed and then pressing the start button, or in the case of an unbalanced load stopping the final spin, switch off, then back on and again, don't touch the programme knob, just the spin and press start. This often works but sometimes you need to re-distribute the load manually.
  'Can't open the door without re-starting the whole programme' Yes you can - just press pause, wait for the door lock key symbol to disappear, add whatever got missed or do whatever you needed access for, close the door and press the pause/start button again and it re-starts from where it left off. Same process applies if you need to redistribute a load.
  The LG F1402fds6 came recommended by a friend, so fairly easy to make the decision.
  Shopping around can produce huge price differences, so once you find a good deal, check the supplier for reviews online before ordering and always ask for firm delivery dates etc first.
  We bought ours from a Comet local branch so delivery was fast.
  The machine does protrude a bit - around 2" further than the standard worktop, and a little more further down as the machine is shaped. This isn't a problem for us and as our Aqualtis was the same depth and shape, and the machine is in the corner of the utility room
  At first, the instructions look a bit sparse and vague, but as soon as you start to use the machine the instructions become clear and the machine is fairly self explanatory as you go as a panel indicates your selections as you go. LG did respond fairly quickly to an email query on a couple of points.
  Once begun, the machine tells you how much your load weighs - less than you imagine actually, so no problem on advised load weights - indicates your selections and how long the whole wash will take and off it goes.
  It fills in short bursts at first which I assume disperses the detergent better, then goes on to fill properly, and decides how much water is needed for the load.
  It's very quiet, especially the spin.
  There's a programme for items such as bedding etc (allergy care) but it doesn't actually mention towels in the instructions so I just assumed that's the right one, or the cotton programme. Also it doesn't mention duvets so I assumed again regarding which programme to use. Trial and error seemed the only way to determine that one but the 'cotton' programme was what I tried as it can be used for full capacity loads and a lot of the options such as temperature, steam, medic rinse etc can be used.
  I like a little explanation on functions, so had to find out by using medic rinse - it's a warm rinse to thoroughly remove the last residue of detergents etc..... also, the crease-care -does that mean it occasionally tumbles the clothes around after the programme is finished to prevent them settling into creases? ..most likely, but it doesn't tell you. Again something to be determined by seeing what it does when the option is selected.
  
  The child lock only operates when the machine is in use, so anyone with young children that like pressing buttons should perhaps have access to the socket and switch it off when not in use.
  There's also a 'tub clean' programme to ensure the machine stays fresh and free of scale/build up etc.
  
  In my experience, powder detergents and tablets used at a minimum amount are the best, as liquid detergents do not contain the enzymes and brighteners found in powders/tablets, and by their nature can leave residue which causes bacteria & staleness. Also the case with especially concentrated fabric softeners ..I always dilute mine and then use half the usual quantity - still gives the same results.
  This machine - and probably many other modern ones - does not need large quantities of detergents and softeners in general use. For any stains or marks, I spray with a little diluted Ace before washing.
  
  It is more expensive but the direct drive motor and quiet running coupled with what so far are excellent results should result in a machine that will give years of good results - we'll see.
  It seems very well built and finished, and the blue lights on the panel look really smart too!
  
  As for duvets - did a king size one today. Took a bit of pushing into the machine but it has washed very well on 'Cotton' with steam as that programme takes the full 9kg load. Only problem was the load balance for spin - had to open the door (press pause and wait for it to unlock) and shove it about a bit. Had to do that three times before it actually worked, but it is a bulky 13.5tog duvet (weight only 4kg though, so you could also use the Allergy wash too).
  Our Aqualtis was 7.5k load & the drum seemed no smaller than this for inserting a large duvet, plus it washed without the balance issue, but didn't spin it as dry as the LG by a long way and both are 1400rpm. The spinner on the LG is far superior for all loads.
  
  The machine tries to re-balance loads itself first by doing a short slow spin and pumping out the water and tumbling the load around. It tries for some time too, then beeps for help if it can't ..this can add to the load complete time but if you notice it you can press 'pause' open the door and re-distribute the load and then release 'pause'. Another way that can work is to switch it off and then on again and only select spin (don't touch the programme knob, just adjust the spin setting and then press go)
  Another thing is that you do have to get used to longer wash cycles with cold fill only - it irritated me at first with our last washer, but we soon got used to it. The programmes on this machines are very similar in length.
  A fast wash can be completed by using the 30minute one and spraying any dirty marks first with Ace, Vanish etc and just the normal amount of detergent.
  
  Once the things unexplained in the instructions are clear, it becomes very easy to use.
  The only time I've had unbalanced loads is if I'm washing something that is bulky and retains water such as duvets, pillows and padded dog beds- it's my only negative about this machine and I'd prefer a reduced sensitivity load balance option to compensate for this type of item.
  
  If it proves to be a strong and trouble free machine, then I'll be more than happy.
