“I have recently returned from a one night stay at...”

★★★★☆

written by kirsty88 on 02/02/2011

I have recently returned from a one night stay at Rushton Hall after buying the voucher on Groupn. Overall the hotel was beautiful, the room was large and well equipped and the spa had everything we needed (even if it was small).

I had a couple of points for improvement but overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

1 - the check in time is 3pm, but the you can use the spa from 2pm on the day of arrival. We arrived at 2 and rather than head straight to the spa we thought we'd go and get something to eat. The receptionist gave us a cheery 'sure no problem' and directed us down to the great hall. Here we were met by the manager who told us that we could not eat, as last orders were 2 pm and he had just sold his last table. After a confusing dialogue we managed to get across that we didnt want a full on roast dinner, just a sandwich or two sat in the bar if possible... eventually he agreed. Said sandwiches took an hour to arrive. I appreciate that they were busy and that we had not booked, but any hotel which gives itself over to Groupon should expect to have more customers, customers that would not usually visit thei hotel and which may potentially return. They should be falling over themselves rather than disinterested.

That said the rest of our stay was fantastic, the barman was cheerful and nothing was too much trouble. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent - a couple of mistakes but enthusiastic & apologetic staff. The spa consists of a swimming pool, steam room, sauna and jacuzzi (there is also an outdoor jacuzzi which was closed). The spa only had about 10-15 seats though, not really enough for a hotel with 45 bedrooms.

We didnt get to check out much of the grounds or the tennis courts, but would have loved to. Afternoon tea in the Great HAll was delicious (and huge!), the bed was comfy and breakfast was very tasty.

Excellent value for money with our Groupon voucher and i would happily return on another deal. I am not sure i would pay full price though as once you have added on dinner and spa treatments, you are spending quite a lot of money. Maybe they could spend some of that on a couple more members of staff.
