“bulb exploded”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 11/08/2015

I enjoyed using this oven in the beginning but when I went to use it last time the bulb exploded spraying glass over the meat. Once I lifted the lid up glass particles went everywhere. The glass particles were so small it is taking me days to make sure it is all gone. Was offered a replacement but no thanks don't want to waste another piece of meat (worth £11.98) for which JML wasn't interested in compensating for. If there had been some sort of warning about the chance of the bulb exploding I would never have bought this product to start with. Now because I didn't want a replacement I have to make do with a credit note. Bad show JML.

“Good value for money”

★★★★★

written by ojRandall482 on 26/04/2015

Good point It is power saving, you do not need to heat up the whole conventional stove. It is fast, pre-heats in a few minutes. It is inexpensive, Costco was selling these JML around £25. It is easy to clean. You can look at what you are cooking to get it cooked the way you want. Bad points Thermostat, fan, heating element can fail and although I have seen heating elements for sale on Ebay, other parts are impossible to get hold of. Even so if you can get hold of spare parts, it is not really a customer serviceable product. I love using it.

“The most poorly designed and engineered product I've...”

The most poorly designed and engineered product I've ever used. Totally impractical for any type of cooking of any kind. Proclaims to self clean but you have to clean it first before it can self clean. Absolute joke of a product. A glorified halogen heater tipped on top of a big bowl. DO NOT PURCHASE Unless you want to see how stupid it is

Hi , I too have an halogen oven from jml I swear by it. I've had mine for about three years and now my bulb has gone too, really missing my oven hate using the main gas oven!!!
Well I've done some research and you can buy the bulbs and fit it yourself, they say it's easy!! So I'm going to give it a go when I get my replacement!! A replacement cost around £10.00-£12.00 , but make sure it's the right one for your oven. It seams a waste if you have to replace the whole oven.
I hope that helps, good luck x

“Poor Quality”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 02/07/2013

Originally I bought a halogen oven from JML and I constantly had to take off the splatter guard to get to the fan as it kept coming loose. This kept happening until the thread became worn and the nut that secured the fan would not hold the fan in place. I have heard several people complaining about the same problem. I have now switched to an Andrew James halogen oven and it is pure quality, in my opinion the best on the market.

“Makes black marks on the bacon”

★☆☆☆☆

written by agp1337 on 11/01/2013

I bought a JML halogen oven about 8 months ago. My breakfast is a bacon sandwich with one slice of bacon. Obviously the rack at the bottom needs cleaning, and because of that the chrome coating has come off revealing copper and even some blackness on a couple of areas. Result is that there are black stripes across the bacon. I'm sure it's harmless, but it doesn't look nice. I emailed JML saying that I would like to buy two more of these racks: I possibly hadn't cleaned it carefully enough and was happy to pay. I was very nice, but no reply at all. Looked on their website, and no chance to buy spares or indication of what I should do. It will be the last thing I buy from JML. It could have been one or two stars, but the food doesn't look nice so I've given it one. If only they'd bothered to answer ...

“JML Halogen Oven ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by JMLrubbish on 31/12/2012

I am hugely disappointed with this appliance and would not recommend it, especially after it exploded a few days ago, which was very frightening. I only brought it in May and used it once or twice a week, for cooking a chop or sausages. It had only been switched on for a minute before the bulb inside exploded, first it made a screaming noise, then there was a huge bang and flash, then flames, thank goodness the thing is sealed by the lid being in place, so it extinguished the flames. My grandchildren were with me at the time, and they were crying and very frightened, as I tried to get to it to pull out the plug. Therefore, I would not recommend this product and shall be writing to JML for a refund, as I certainly wouldn’t want a replacement!

“what a waste”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 25/12/2012

worked well at first but when it began to go wrong - first extremely noisy, then not cooking properly, I thought I'd like to tell the makers so that they were aware of the problems. Would JML tell me who they were ? No way - it's a secret !! It was just out of guarantee so JML did not want to know either. I now have an expensive piece of junk on my kitchen top. No-one I talk to is able or willing to mend it. I just hate the idea of it going to landfill but I cannot find another use for it unless someone would like the nice glass bowl. JML have the nerve to advertise how great their customer service is, but they don't give a hoot. The concept is fine, but until the makers (Chinese) improve it so that it lasts a lot longer it is a big con. Just like Japanese made goods used to be

“JML halogen cooker lamp replacement”

★★★★☆

written by johnoakhurst on 23/11/2012

I said I recommend the oven but with reservations. The oven itself is brilliant but the lamp often blows and difficult to replace. I said difficult but not impossible although JML make the item in such a way that they say only a qualified electrician should do the job. However it can be done by a serious diy man. Remove the metal housing holding the fan blades. The main problem is removing the fan blades as the nut and centre spindle go around together and it is not possible to hold the spindle. Carefully unclip the lamp and move to one side with the wires attached. Cut a groove in the centre of the spindle with a small hacksaw which enables one to hold the spindle with a screwdriver and turn the nut. The fan can be removed along with the various casings. The lamp has 2 black wires, one goes to the connectors with the green wire and the other with the blue wire. Carefully make a note which is which. Disconnect the old lamp and repace with the new. Reconnect everything. Sounds difficult but actually quite straight forward once the spindle is held and the fan blades removed.

I am assuming Andrew James Halogen Oven is similar to the JML One. I searched everywhere and the above described is a brilliant idea, but the bolt on my oven was too rusted and stubborn for the above idea to work. I injured myself trying to hold the fan and blade made a cut on my finger. Its then I felt the company guy wouldnt try to remove that fan bolt and there must be something easier. I removed the other three pillar like screws[dont know the technical name] which hold the casing and the lamp in place. Now is the tricky part. Slightly move the base which holds the glass plate. Once the glass plate is moved, the wiring which holds the lamps is loosened. Dont worry about the fan blades getting bent slightly. This will make some space to pull the wiring from inside. There is plastic like socket where in the wired socket from lamp is suppose to go. Slightly and carefully pull the plastic casing out and remove the old lamp from it. Now connect the new lamp socket into it. This is just like putting a USB stick in the laptop, you cant put it wrong, it wont go in. So you need not worry about red or black wires at all [Andrew James not sure if its similar in JML]. Now reconnect everything again. I wish I captured a video or an image to post here but I was in too hurry to get this done and in no mood to repeat the same. I hope this helps because I understand how you feel when you desperate to fix it somehow. Thanks.

“dangerous accessory”

★★★☆☆

written by gromitandwallace on 14/10/2012

bought one as a package from JML the skewers sent with it were of extremely poor quality posing a serious contamination risk both by cuttting hand and risk of steel shards being left in food. JML have been slow to respond to my concerns, and have just sent another set without commenting on the hazards posed by such a serious defect. Their customer care is generic it would appear. The young girl I spoke to on the phone was talking to me as if I was a 4 year old, and could not understand that a, I had been injured by a faulty item and b, it was dangerous to sell these items as they may contaminate the food. My big concern is that it is obvious no detailed checks are made to their products from the far east, its off the container and off to the buyer without much quality control. So beware!!!

“Bulbs and poor service - violation or volition?”

★★★☆☆

written by Guido4ks on 21/07/2012

The JML oven cooks perfectly well when its working....bulb expires in anything from 1 month to 1 year. I have had 4 now: first one 3 years ago - just out of warranty bulb went - could not get it repaired so disposed of the oven. Bought 2 with 2 years extended warranty (£10 extra for 1). 2 years and 2 weeks later both bulbs gone. Thinking the warranty was still valid sent the lids from 2 ovens - to save sending complete ovens with even more postage - in 1 box recorded delivery (£14.50) back to JML for repair. Phone call then from JML SAYING OUT OF WARRANTY and that they would have needed the complete ovens anyway but prepared to replace bulbs for £15.50 each! I refused that kind offer expecting postage costs as well. I asked them to send my lids back to me - "we can't do that as we have disposed of them!"..But they are my property and I want them! After a heated conversation in which I explained I would do everything possible to bring their bad service and lack of goodwill and illegal dumping of my lids to all and sundry, a supervisor's advice was sought... After some delay "As a gesture of goodwill we can offer you one replacement oven free." I accepted and it has arrived. Don't buy the JML oven buy the Andrew James version from Amazon - it has loads of extras and guess what? - A free bulb which can be easily changed...Voila!

“Another JML product JML HALOGEN OVEN FAILURE with...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by BelindaJW on 17/05/2012

...Spare parts or the product is manufactured in such a way as to make it impossible to replace and install a part which I believe to be a deliberate act on behalf of JML in the hope that those who don't grow wise to their antics end up buying or should i say replacing the same product in this case the JML HALOGEN OVEN over and over again, in some instances as little as 6 months of continuous use, or just after the warranty ends that being a year. Just like very many of you poor folk out there, I had exactly the same problem that of the halogen heating tube (element) blowing in my case just as the warranty had expired. I thought it was going to be a simple purchase and replacement process at what one would expect to be also at a reasonable price. To my horror and complete frustration, I found JML Customer services, no sorry my mistake they only have a "order! Order! And Order line (to be putting it politely) most unhelpful and down right rude and to add insult to injury on their part, seemed bazarely annoyed and puzzled as to what would possess me to call them in the first instant for spares and in this case an essential part having failed after such a short period of time. "they obviously consider this product to be a throw away appliance and expect an inflated over priced product. So once i calmed down (incidentily it takes a lot to blow my fuse, unlike their Halogen Oven lol) i scouted around and as a result of this, plus determined they were not going to get another penny out of me on principle, i decided to search for an alternative halogen oven especially as they make me feel quite bitter, resentful and frustrated not only by by their attitude, but by the mere fact that I should just shut up and hand over my hard earned DOSH for a new one! Yeh right, NOT!! Firstly after quite some research I found which I proceeded to purchase My now GINO D'ACAMPO HALOGEN OVEN, which in my humble opinion is the Bees Knees! Unlike the JML oven,  the extra 5ltr stainless ring came included with my oven as did a cookbook. The capacity of the bowl alone is also larger at 12ltrs + the 5ltr extension ring (the JML one is 10.5ltr with no extra ring) The max output on the JML is only 1300w, but on the GINO model it is 1400w and therefore far superior. The GINO D oven is also constructed far better than the JML oven as its HALOGEN HEATING TUBE is well protected and not exposed to allow hot fat etc to spit up onto it to make it more susceptible to damage or increased wear and tear from the effects of being more exposed. I have wondered to myself as to whether JML have deliberately designed their oven to fail after so long as it is so poorly constructed in a manner that does not protect the HALOGEN HEATING TUBE and because of this it is the first thing, in fact probably in 99% of cases is the part that ultimately fails meaning that you have to replace the entire appliance  which is crazy when there are replacement heating tubes for all the other models at a very cheap price. Trading standards state that the length an item should be expected to last is dependant on what you purchase eg a £3 hand held little battery fan (which people use out and about to cool down during the summer months) would only be expected to last say 6 months to a year, yet an electrical appliance such as a Halogen Oven eg the JML oven at a hefty price of £70 without the extension ring (which I believe is a further £15) should most definately last for more than a year. I know John Lewis used to automatically give a free 2yr warranty. I don't think you should have to feel obliged to pay JML for a further warranty after just 1yr and in so doing it really doesn't say much for the quality of their products. I have had my GINO D'ACAMPO HALOGEN OVEN now just over 2yrs and it is working every bit as well as it did the day I bought it. It is well manufactured and due to its protected halogen heating tube, is also very easy to clean and keep clean.. Incidentally, the day my JML oven broke (ie halogen heating tube blew) to replace it would have cost me £65 + £11 for the extension ring for the JML OVEN. I paid £32 for my GINO D'ACAMPO OVEN COMPLETE WITH EXTENSION RING from wilkinsons. I have to admit I was very very sceptable when I purchased this oven, mainly because i felt it seemed "just to cheap", ie less than half the price of the JML Oven and too good to be true ie buyer beware. To my delight and without doubt my new purchase, the GINO DACAMPO HALOGEN OVEN superseded everything and all my expectations aver the JML oven, well at least on paper, but to my delight after purchase i have found was one of the best decisions ie to go for a complete change I have ever made. It is a fantastic product. With my GINO D'ACAMPO HALOGEN OVEN now tried and tested and still going strong after 2yrs, I would have been quite happy to pay more than the JML OVEN any day. like you I use my GINO D'ACAMPO halogen oven everyday, it's just brilliant. Just to end and sorry if I have rabbited on somewhat my advice to you all is to give trading standards a call, especially if it is your second oven to pack up with the same problem, which would mean if you bought another it would be 3 JML ovens in 18 months at a total price of over £200 had they not replaced the first one if still under warranty which to anyone is COMPLETELY NOT ACCEPTABLE. So to all you folk that feel they have been well and truly ripped off i suggest that youI should fight this one out to the end and if it were me, I would certainly not spend another penny on another JML OVEN. It would be great to hear how any of you poor peeps get on I PUT THE ONE STAR IN AS IT WAS A REQUIRED FIELD, THE ACTUAL RATING I WOULD SINCERELY LOVE TO GIVE THE JML HALOGEN OVEN IS A - (MINUS) 5 or what ever the max star rating is. THE MORAL OF THE STORY IS DO NOT BUY JML PRODUCTS especially the CRAPPY TO FAIL FROM THE START JML HALOGEN OVEN Belinda  Lol I feel much better now I have vented

I have spent ages trying to find someone who might fix my oven, They all suck their teeth and indicate that there is nothing they can do. I THINK that JML provide a replacement element but other than that they have little interest in customer service. They flatly refused to tell me who the manufacturer was for a direct complaint. If you bought from John Lewis or Lakeland, they are both good companies and should be helpful. Having said that, with Chinese goods there is often little they can do.

I bought an Andrew James digital halogen oven. If I want to set oven for 60 minutes I have to wait for about 20 minutes waiting for the seconds to go up to set it, it doesn't go up in minutes only seconds. This shouldn't be so. Am I doing something wrong? Help please.

Sorry - this was passed to me from ReviewCentre. I have a JML halogen oven - not digital. I hope you find an answer to your problem. Good luck PS For what it's worth, I love my oven. I haven't used the normal one since I moved here two years ago. It's used every day and is still going strong.

Try googling Andrew James halogen instructions There IS a cookbook available for this cooker on Amazon btw
