I have had this laptop for around 4 to 5 years now and it has just completely fallen apart. My battery life lasts for around twenty minutes at the most, it overheats which then causes the mouse pad to keep taking me back to the last website I was on. Two of my friends have the exact same laptop but for a shorter amount of time than me and its happened to them as well. Its just not at all good and should not be advertised as an amazing laptop! Firstly I would definately not reccomend this laptop to anybody. There are many things bad about this laptop like the battery life when fully charged is 39mins there are also lots of other things. I have had this laptop for roughly 3 or 4 years now and the fan is making noises, the laptop gets slower and slower, things dont respond and parts are braking and falling out like the card in the side I have had to put blue tack on it to stop it from falling out. the thing is with this computer it is that its fine for about the first year but after that it slowly falls apart ...i have the charger port breaking, the fan now overheats all the time and its got so noisy i don't want anybody to have the same problems so please don't buy it its not as good as it looks...just don't judge a book by its covers hope this helps. Had problems originally as awful Vista was installed. Once this was removed and upgraded to Windows 7 I haven't had a problem since! I would recommend this laptop BUT only if you ditch Vista (overheating and shut down will occur if you don't - the problem is the software not the hardware). Its great being larger with the proper calculator on the side (studying accounts so was a selling point). This laptop was only good for about the first few weeks then I ran in to so many problems.
It overheats and turns off - not great when you are working on assignments.
It's become extremely slow and lags when trying to do anything. So frustrating!
The power cord has split and falls out of the laptop constantly. Which is very annoying as the battery doesn't last long at all.
The hard drive is extremely small - made even smaller by Vista saving everything twice on the hard drive.

Buying this laptop was a huge mistake. It worked okay for the first year.
But as soon as the guarantee ran out that's when all the problems started happening. My battery lasts less than an hour now, which is frustrating. The worst thing is that at least two times a day it overheats and turns itself off. Do not buy this laptop!! I should have known not to trust acer, they havent exactly got the best reputation..

Owned my 5735 for over 18 months and it hasn't missed a beat. Im surprised at some of the other reviews. Battery, charger and speed have not been an issue. Works as well as the day i bought it. Would recommend this laptop as one of the best value for money laptops out there. Can only assume there's a batch of faulty laptop from manufacture. Great laptop. (read more)

Charging unit died at one year mark just when heavy snows came at Christmas 2009. One year warranty ended on 26 December and couldn't get any help for days so finally bought my own replacement as had end of year work. Now the battery won't charge - which began at the 17 month mark. Love the integrated number pad (am accountant), weight, size of screen, etc. I find touchpad a bit unpredictable in use. I`ve had this laptop for just over 2 years and, although its got a good quality screen, a few months later (5-6 months) the battery was so bad that as soon as it booted up the battery just goes and its still doing it now. (read more)

I bought this laptop (Apsire 5735Z) for use with our digital camaras. Whilst initially fine, we started to have problems with it booting up. Eventually just before the expiry of the warranty it refused to power up at all, despite many attempts I could not get Acer to accept responsibility for fixing this unless we paid approx £250 to fix the fault. when i first had it it was super fast. a year on and its now slow, even after changing graphics and such. might be down to music and photos perhaps :s the battery is now dead. it cant hold charge for more than 1 minute. goin to try and get a new battery because it was a good laptop. the screen is nice and clear as well. the switching off problem is common in a few laptops ... my acer aspire 5735 was good for the first 6 months then the fan started coming on, the machine would overheat and switch off, not even a shutdown ... i got a hoover and a match, took the back off, cleaned and hoovered the fan out ( be careful not to let the fan spin while you have the hoover extension over the fan, hold the fan with the matchstick ), easy to get to, its at the back, i pulled lots of fluff out and ever since then its... I have had mine for about 16 months and cannot really complain about it.
It is easy to use and has a good charge even after this long. Lightweight compared to some, very good value for money
I haven't had any need for repairs etc and I would certainly recommend this laptop to others.

I find this laptop to be extremely good, extremely quick, easy to use, good disk space.
I have had a couple of issues however, my left click is a bit temperamental, but I use a logitech marble anyway so that's no real issue, my battery can no longer hold charge, but I permanently leave it plugged in so it is probably my own fault, and I have just broke my 2nd charger, again mostly my fault.
So while it can be a bit prone to breakages, if you look after it well, it is an amazing laptop.

this laptop is very good, i have read the other reviews and i am so suprised that they had so many problems with it.
my battery lasts for 2 hours, just as long as if it was still new. you shouldn't keep your laptop charging when it has battery, because it
will become dependent on always being charged, so when you want it to last for over an hour, it will only last 20 mins or less.

it really worth the money...i just had 2 bluescreens but it was my fault, the fan...is not in the perfect position(on the back) heat tooo much... and the battery...it doesnt have a long life...but taking that out...is a very good laptop.

This laptop is not worth the money. I have had my laptop for more than a year. The button has worn down and no longer works right so I've had to get a mouse which is a hassle when trying to have it portable. The picture is dull and the crystal eye webcam doesn't even come with a program to make videos or anything of the sort, which I was looking forward to instead of having to go online and download editing programs. my acer laptop had to be returned within three months as the hard drive was broken, within another month it was sent back because the screen has broken. I have now been told that it was dispatched four days ago with dhl who have no knowledge of its whereabouts. So at present i have no laptop and am £400 out of pocket. Acer are not interested and nor is the retailer. Please do not buy an Acer, the quality is dreadful and matched by the service. Never again!

Has worked OK, although the "B"-key did not work when I first got the laptop - managed to fix that on my own, sending to Acer for repairs seemed too complicated. Also, the battery worked OK (2hrs lifetime) for the first year, but now it dies after 5-10min without any warning; goes from 90% to dead in a couple of seconds. (read more)

contacted acer customer service = no use at all, couldn't understand their english so i gave up.

I was pleased with my lap top when I first got it. But two weeks after I got it the screen has been getting like water spots all over it and I complained to Best buy and they said there was nothing they could do about it since I didnt contact them within the month of purchase. My Acer Aspire, was bought for me just over a month ago, and i dont regret spending £380 on it at all. I bought it from Tesco.com and it was very very fast. As fast as the laptop. I got 4GB of ram, Dual Core Pentium Processor and excellent Dolby speakers. I have to admit, the keyboard does allow in alot of muck and hairs. The battery life is fantastic, compared to Dell Inspiron, this could easily do a marathon while the Dell would struggle to get out of bed. Overall, if you are considering... (read more)

I bought an ACER5735 from Comet UK (476) brand new. Negatives are (-1). The keyboard popped off even in first 5 days, I sent it back and (-2) Comet UK refused to refund my money, and sent the machine to Acer, where it took 1 month to repair. (-3). It always creates an electric spark whenever I plug it to power supply. So I am always scared to plug it. MY Acer aspire was from acerdircet.com and it was a A2 ( this ment that it had minor cosmetic damage. But when the laptop arrived it was in perfect condition and i had to look long and hard for the scrates, The speed of the laptop is amazing (if you dont have any gadgets on your sidebar) but if you do it is a respectable speed that any stundent or even a busness computer. Overall the product is good. but acer's service is bad. that too in bangalore its pathetic. i had some screen whiteninig problem and i launched a complaint 2 months back. after that i called their call centre thrice. then i e-mailed them but no use. I use this ACER Aspire laptop all the time, I use it for schoolwork as I can't see much on paper and I find the quality fantastic. The webcam presents a crystal clear image, the screen quality is great and i find the angles and curves of the whole laptop very aesthetically pleasing. It is great for movies and music, and extremely fast. I have Vista home premium built in and use Safari web browser. All in all, a brilliant laptop. (read more)

Bought this ACER Aspire 5735 for my 12 old son for christmas as first laptop. Did loads of research and this came out top for the money. Very pleased with it, perfect for kids and adults alike. Top spec for the money and he liked the look of it to, very sleek. Webcam great and 15.6 screen great for movies etc. When my pc gives up, would not hesitate to replace with this model. Great laptop for the money. The only marginally cheaper laptops had half the memory of this one, one processor and Vista basic. For what you get with one, Dual processor, Vista premium, good memory, great Webcam, large screen for movies... for the money you cant go wrong. (read more)

We've had one of these laptops for 3 to 4 years and have been very impressed with the reliability. It's been used almost very day by the children to play games and by us (adults) for work, email and the web. At no point have we had any problems, unlike our previous laptop that just got slower and slower. The battery does only last about an hour but I think that's usual for older laptops. I did update to windows 7 when it came out which may have helped the longevity.
