The Touch HD has recently dropped in price, but to get it SIM-free it is still quite pricey. However, it is a great phone to have.
I've had mine for nearly 2 years now and I recently updated it to the new Windows Mobile 6.5 OS. As the phone is not locked (unlike Apple iPhones etc), you are free to install whatever you like on your own phone.
There is a vast community online ('xda developers' in the uk, and 'blackstone' ones in the US). A quick google search will find you loads of free...

HTC touch gives me brand new experience on windows mobile system cell phone.
It's been two years I've been using it and since then it becomes part of my life. It's really cool to have such kind of cell phone, not to mention its super sesitive touch screen and easy to use operating system. The only thing cencerns me is the price, it's a little bit high.

upgraded from the kaiser 2 - massive screen, same windows mobile operating system as the kaiser so all the apps work. even managed to get tomtom 7 working on it which is supposed to be incompatible.
Downside: the phone is just a little too slow (fixed apparently with HD2), the bluetooth needs updating to work with parrot car kits (dl from htc website), the supplied pouch is hopeless (kaiser came with a proper case). one other niggle, not with the phone, excel mobile won't go into landscape...

The HTC Touch HD is a superb smartphone, if a little outdated by HTC's ever expanding range of smartphones on the market.
It runs Windows Mobile 6.1 by default (you can upgrade to 6.5), which means if your into it, you can make your own programs/apps, without being bullied into using a single front.
What I loved:
* The massive screen, bigger than the iPhone screen, and a much higher resolution, 480x800. This means for superb website viewing using the opera browser.
* The design, I love...

Fantastic phone! After a long line of XDA phones, along came the HTC Touch HD, and what a feature rich phone it is. I have had iphone as a business phone, and have now got rid of it in favour of the much more user friendly HTC offering, with better signal, battery life, and in my opinion a better screen. I highly recommend the Touch HD, and hope that everyone has as much pleasure from using it, as I have.
Down side? Can't think of any!

I have had my HTC Touch for almost 2 years and it has given me great service. Even now my standby time is 5-6 days. Lately I've had some software problems especially just after charging from my Laptop, but that is easily sorted out by just restarting the phone. In 3 months I can upgrade again and I will almost certainly look at the latest phones from HTC.

The HTC Touch HD is the ultimate spec phone imo, cannot leave home without it.
Ive had a long range of HTC phones, my previous phone was an XDA Orbit which served me well.
I had been waiting and waiting for the HTC Touch Pro to come out as i felt i really needed a keyboard.. but when i saw the screen on the HD I thought i could carry on using the on screen jobbie.
I got it around mid Dec, and in Jan it broke.. the screen went awol and it constantly dropped calls in low ish signal areas.. htc...

I have been considering upgrading from my TyTN II to the HD for a while. The TyTN II had the same driver issues, but I found it handled mp4 well (avi is rubbish). I need a good quality GPS receiver (SiRF III) and HTC insist on using the Qualcomm chipset, which is far inferior in this area. I would never have a hardware keyboard again as the spring in mine failed. It looks a great device and is < £300 on eBay now.
<br/>I've not seen a newer HTC device which I would rather have.

The HTC Touch HD phone is easily better than the iphone in my opinion. When compared, the phones are more or less the same size but the HTC has a bigger screen with a higher resolution, which is great for watching video's and pictures which have been taken using the 5 Megapixel camera the HTC boasts. The HTC also comes with a build in (not hanging from the side) stilus. As mentioned this will sometimes have to be used, maybe when writing messages using the qwerty keyboard. However, when... Thanks for a very in-depth review of HTC HD. I absolutely agree that it's a great product. The only problem I have is its price. But I guess instead of buying the Iphone 3GS, HTC diamond is more worthy of my buck.
