Good Points: Open your front door remotely from up to 50m away, just like car door systems. It uses similar rolling code security and permits normal key operation too. Supplied with 2 remote control 'keys'. Plugs into existing 13A wall socket. Can be supplemented with 2-way intercom system from same manufacturer. Perfect for limited-mobility occupants to 'buzz-in' guests, or if you're lugging armfuls of shopping etc. Up to 19 keys can be used too, but they won't come cheap!
Bad Points: I replaced the electric 'strike' (the bit which replaces your existing lock's fitting in the door jamb) because the supplied one was a bit large. The intercom system is a bit pricey for what it is. I used a much cheaper battery-operated system from Maplin, but this is only a luxury, you don't need any intercom. More easily available dimensional information on the 'strike'would be useful for fitters. It's not cheap, around £100, but decent security never is.
General comments: ERA Locca is an electric locking system which works just like modern car radio-controlled door locks, with rolling security codes to prevent unauthorised access. You replace the part of your existing night-latch or Yale-type lock in the door jamb with the 'electric strike' supplied. Connect up 2 low-voltage wires, tidy up etc and plug in. That's it! Two small circular remote controls operate just like your car door remote does, but on your front door. It's possible to integrate this with an intercom system from the same supplier too. Frequently seen in blocks of flats where people can be 'buzzed in'
