“Small kennels big hearts!!”

Written on: 03/02/2013 by Toriyerbury

I rescued a gorgeous black lab called lily from them. I found them to be very sensible and before I signed the adoption paperwork I first brought my own dog along for a walk out with lily. The next day I took her home for the afternoon to see how she got on with my husband and son. She fitted right in and I went back to complete the paperwork. Lily has been part of the family ever since And we love her. The couple running mad sods are very caring and compassionate for dogs and do all... (read more)

“Good Rescue Centre!”

Written on: 03/02/2013

I've had Jake, my rescue Greyhound for nearly 2 years now. When I went to see him at the rescue centre he was very bouncy and chirpy, despite looking sad in the website pictures. That is the sort of dog he is though - bouncy and a happy go lucky sort. We didn't know much about Jake's past and it was a leap of faith, although we had him on a 2 week trial (adoption fee non refundable). It took a few months for Jake to properly settle in, relax, and for me to gain his trust enough to let... (read more)

“Re-homed Shih-Zu”

Written on: 24/11/2011 by macabethiel (1 review written)

We recently collected Alfie a young male Shih-Zu from Madsods for my elderly Mother. He was quite aggressive at the rescue and Brian told us he was previously with an elderly Lady and needed a home with no children. When we got him to my Mothers it was if a switch had tripped in his head and he immediately settled down. Although it early days it seems as though he will be a great companion for my Mum. I think if you take on a recue dog you need to accept that there may be some issues and... (read more)

“ What a complete nightmare - not a success story”

Written on: 04/11/2011 by ClairClarke (1 review written)

This is going to be long....but I suggest you read it before taking a dog from them! We first heard of MADSODS on the web and saw what we believed was a lovely Border Collie called Blue, aged 3yrs. We travelled over from the far side of Nottingham to see him. When we arrived Brian went to fetch him from his kennel. When he got to the door of the block Blue was going balistic and my words were very similar to "he wants to kill me". Brian brought him out and asked us to stand back due to... (read more)

Juejue52's Response to ClairClarke's Review

I made an appointment to go and see a lovely looking border collie called Smokey.
I had read all the reviews about the animals at the centre beforehand and this one in particular stood out-it sounded almost unbelievable.I felt really sorry for all concerned, but then just dismissed it from my mind.
Anyway, I turned up to meet Brian on Saturday morning with high hopes.
He let me in through the gate, and pointed out Smokey's pen.
The dog was barking a lot and seemed very hyper, but I put that down to him being confined in a small area.
Brian went up and opened the door and Smokey came bounding out straight up towards me. I stood very still, so that he wouldn't feel threatened. I didn't get chance to pat him, as he stood snarling and jumping around, and I felt rather uneasy.
As I stood talking to Brian, the dog ran around behind me, and bit my leg.
It was a real shock. Needless to say I wasn't going to consider adopting Smokey, and was glad to get back into the car and go home.
I really don't think I could ever contemplate taking on a collie now. I'm sure the majority are very well- balanced, loving and loyal, but I'm going to be very careful after what happened. I don't know whether Brian will alter the description of Smokey, or if the dog is suitable for re-homing with a family.

Juejue52's - your story justifies the reason for our review of MADSODS. Our story ended blissfully happy due to us purchasing a Golden Retriever puppy direct from the breeder who was fairly local. Our dog is now 18 months old and he is a pleasure to own. Only you can decide whether to try to re-home another dog who is need but not knowing it's background and temperament or whether to do as we did and buy a puppy to then bring it up your way. All the best.
