“I was resting with his wife in the hotel Coral Sea...”

★★☆☆☆

written by AlexKun on 26/04/2010

I was resting with his wife in the hotel Coral Sea Imperial (Sharm, Egypt) in the period from 11 to April 18, 2010 under All Inclusive, Standard Room Sea view (operator: Coral Travel). The hotel has two restaurants, serving guests at the "Swedish table , Pharaoh and Tiran. Both restaurants offer the same set of dishes, but they differ in both interior and quality service. My wife and I have been visiting the Pharaoh restaurant, because we were very uncomfortable with the level of service in the Tiran restaurant, especially sticky from the already stuffy dirt floor.

I would like to bring your attention to an unfortunate incident, the blame for which has to be taken entirely by the hotel.
On Friday, April 16, 2010, lunch time, we were not allowed to enter the restaurant by Pharaoh employees with the words "only for Italian people". The ban on entry to the restaurant was applied to all guests who stayed under "all inclusive" conditions, in particular the Russian-speaking visitors. I asked about the reasoning of such a ban, but I did not receive a satisfactory answer. Considering this event as a case of segregation on the basis of nationality, I filed a complaint to the hotel through the reception and also through the guide of the Coral Travel company. I suggested to the hotel to recall the order on allocation of Pharaoh restaurant in the exclusive use by tourists from Italy, and to apologize to all those who had been insulted by this discriminatory order.
Both of my suggestions were ignored. In the evening, same day, one could see a poster at the entrance to the restaurant Pharaoh written in both English and Russian telling that the restaurant "is busy", and forwarding the guests to the Tiran restaurant. The announcement has not indicated that Pharaoh serves only Italians, but it was clear without any ads, as the Italian guests were passed in a restaurant without hindrance.

According to my information, other tourists from the CIS also filed their complaints to representatives of the hotel and their guides from the Coral Travel and Teztour. These and possibly other complaints by tourists led the administration to abandon the hotel discriminatory measures next day, but nobody from the hotel administration did apology.
