Jane Plant's, 'Your Life in Your Hands' is a readable well-written summary of the author's findings re diet and cancer, specifically breast and prostate cancer. It has some interesting and thought-provoking arguments particularly concerning possible links between breast and prostate cancer and the consumption of dairy products.
The thesis of this book, as evidenced by conventional advice regarding diet for breast cancer patients, has not been whole-heartedly accepted by the medical community. I suspect that the ease of reading and the apparent clarity of the arguments might be open to question by scientifically literate individuals. Any person purporting to offer help to cancer sufferers should be conscientious in offering all the facts and opinions both for and against certain courses of actions. Cancer sufferers are a vulnerable community.
Overall, an interesting book which questions and seeks to debunk some of the conventional wisdoms we are brought up with. Very powerful to me was the argument that the consumption of milk or milk products after infanthood is confined to human beings. It must therefore be regarded as somewhat experimental (which is not to say necessarily unhealthy), rather than one of the cornerstones of a natural, healthy diet.
