Having been invited to a Birthday celebration along with 17 other guests it was found upon arrival that seating 18 people together was impossible. This could only be managed by one table of 10 and two tables of 4. None of this was explained when a visit was made to book the meal ! Service was not too bad, however the food was very disappointing when asked if the meal was OK we made our comments on the food being not up to our expectations and the waitress said she would pass on to the manageress, which did not happen until we made further comments on receipt of the bill and then after some debate agreed on a 20% discount but it was not the discount we were after just a nice meal in a friendly atmosphere which we missed out on and so will not return there again and... Just had Xmas dinner at the Forge Terrible Service, took nearly 3 hours to serve us. Starters not too bad but main meal was awful. Hard vegetables, no flavour, hardly any gravy. Pudding ok. We didn't bother with coffees, didn't want to wait any longer! Waitresses not very friendly. (read more)

After having a great meal at The Forge for my daughter's 18th birthday she wanted to go back again for her 21st birthday meal. 15 family members went and I have to say not one of us had a bad meal. Service was excellent - timing inbetween courses was great. Even though it was saturday night and very busy, the staff were always available if we needed anything. Been here a few times before and never had a problem. Went for my Birthday and ordered two children's meals and two adults meals and a side order. Main meals came but half way through meal no side order! We told the waitress who apologised and we asked for it to be taken off the bill. The coleslaw was off too, but she said it was fine. After the meal and drinks were finished we were left sitting there being ignored (as the waitress could see we were waiting for the bill) for about 15 mins.... (read more)

Have used before and didn't have any complaints. Not sure what has happened, but yesterday we waited 2 hours for our food to arrive. Two of us ordered an item from the specials board, it took them over half an hour to come and tell us they didn't have that and could we order something else! We were a large group and did not expect them to get all our food orders out in one go, but as some of us had to leave earler we ordered first and got our meals after others in the party. When i... I am sorry to hear that unfortuinately the Managers were on holiday and the reflief manager had two main pieces of equipment down. Me and my boyfriend had been to the forge on many occasions over the past 5 years and never really had a problem until 2 months ago. We decided to have an evening out and the forge seemed like a good choice. We arrived and the pub was cramped! It was a saturday night and so this was expected, we waited over an hour for food and put it down to how busy the pub was and let it go over our heads. had a very nice meal my husband had aztec pie my son had bbq ribs & chicken son in law had scampi & chips and my daughter & myself had fish&chips followed by icecream and a caramel snowflake all very nice for £35.85 the beer was good to which is always a bonus so well done my only regret is the cajan chicken as been taken off but hopefully it will be back in the winter. I have just returned from visiting "The Forge" for the first time, I ordered drinks and were asked by the uniformed service staff of our requirements where we were immediately seated and told that the table is needed for a prebooking by 15:30. Now that is where the good service ends, we waited 55 mins for our meal, when it arrived it was almost as good as a "Netto" ready meal (sorry Netto) it was bland, tasteless it to be frank it was if they were from the freezer then microwaved. Good selection on the menu and specials board but let down by a not very attentive service. If there are offers on a particular night watch these are noted on your bill and you are not charged full price. Food however was tasty and well cooked. (read more)

Nice atmosphere but that was where nice ended ! We have been before on a few occasions recently and besides slow service food was passable . Tonight however it seemed to have deteriorated somewhat! The salad consisted of just lettuce ,we had to ask for a better selection and received a 1/4 of a tomato a thin slice of cucumber and a ring of onion! Dismal! All of the meals were sub-standard . Ive been here a coouple of times and its very hit and miss! I usually go simply due to it being very local. Today was the worst experience ive had. We went to the bar to order as normal to be told there was no burgers! I then ordered my second choice which was the Moby dick! Described as a whale of a fish! After booking for Christmas day our expectations were dissapointingly floored big time, by the quality of food that was placed in front of us.We ordered pate for our starter, presentation left alot to be desired. sunday 14th november was my greandaughters 18th birthday we decided to celebrate it at the forge in gornal, I had read some negative reports on this site and was a bit apprehensive but I am very glad we did go there. There were 42 of us of all age ranges and I canot praise the staff enough. Everyone had the meal of their choice and all the food was excellent.
The meals were served on lovely hot plates and everyone enjoyed their meal.

I have been to the forge in the past with friends and never had any problems until today!!!! family of 8 went along to celebrate my daughters 16th B.day, my sister and myself ordered cheesy BBQ pork after tuckin in to a few mouth fulls i noticed blood in the middle of the pork!, the pork was raw right through and my sisters was the same, i complained to the manager who looked no older than my 16yr old daughter, and was happy to replace for something else. my sister went for the safer option... I don't usually write reviews or complain but this place definitely deserves to be avoided, we went to the Forge on the 02/01/2010. After waiting ages for the starters to arrive 2 of the party had theirs then a long gap before the other starters arrived which half of mine was missing. We decided to eat at The Forge because I had heard good review and wasnt disappointed. I had the gammon chips salad egg, my sister had the wrap meal and friend had liver and mash. Got served quick at bar and food came quick as well about 20mins. Everything was piping hot and it was the best gammon ive had anywhere and ive had some gammon meal. The pub is very comfy and would recommend it to any of my friends, in fact my friend took her family with no complaints. (read more)

I enjoy the forge at gornal whenever i visit. it has a warm and inviting atmosphere, for all to enjoy. The staff are very attentive and seem bothered about looking after us customers, rather than clearing some plates and getting paid for it!! i have recommended the forge as it is good value for money being 2 4 1. the meals were excellent and there wasn't really a wait on food, we were shocked to see how quick the service actually was!! Female staff member was very polite and our drinks were served correctly. I recommend* eating at The Forge (2 for 1) restaurant at Gornal - the old Poacher ' s Pocket. We went for an unforgetable meal at Saturday lunchtime for a delicious Steak and Ale pie.
The fact that the carpark was empty when we arrived should have told us something about the place '

Hello I would like to know who you were on the day, Everyone was given three hours at there table on Xmas day, unfortunately we had people on the first sitting arriving late so it threw the 3.00pm sitting out. My waitresses are always friendly so not sure what happened there, if you had only asked we would have brought more gravy as that was being sent out in gravy boats as everyone's taste is different so if you wanted more you only had to ask. The veg was how we have to cook when it is being help so may of been not to your liking. If you would like to contact Sarah the manager she would be happy to resolve this situation on 01384 457359
