“Would have been happy if it had been a third of the price”

Written on: 18/12/2012

LAPLAND UK. Parts of it were great. The beginning, making the toys, decorating biscuits, felt like you were going to another world. The end with Santa was also good but the middle hour and a half was really disappointing and boring. Not so much an ice rink as somewhere for the children to injure themselves as you could no more skate on it than in my front room. Very poor shop ( they advise you when you book to purchase jingles to spend) but there is nothing the children want to buy just... (read more)

“Magical experience but hefty price tag!”

Written on: 17/12/2012 by Mjw1979 (1 review written)

I took my 6 year old to lapland uk and she really wasn't disappointed in the slightest! From the moment you arrive you can see the excitement in the children's faces and even some adults as this isn't your normal run of the mill father Xmas experience. You start of with a great welcome but some very enthusiastic elves who get the children to believe they are about to enter a winter wonderland far away! They go through some brilliant activities including helping them make some teddy bears... (read more)

“Lapland UK, Bewl Water, Kent”

Written on: 09/12/2012

We visited Lapland UK last week and was extremely disappointed, the website site states it is a magical experience, well it was far from that. Firstly you queue for ages to check in, then you go through to meet 2 elves that waffle on and can't act, my son was completely bored and so were many other children. After the elves have handed out passports and sung a song they finally open a door to the Wonderland! Well it was a muddy path with artificial snow sprayed on trees, about 10 metres... (read more)

Yes it's extremely expensive but you can see why it's that price. I don't know why your child was bored as the 30 something in our group were very occupied and full of excitement throughout the day! Def worth more than 1/5 stars!!!

I only wish I'd read your very accurate review before I went and wasted hundreds on a day out that nearly RUINED the magic of Christmas for my 5-1/2 year who never did get a good answer as to why the snow was fake....and who now thinks she knows how to skate (on plastic). I thought it was disgraceful and I truly do not understand how so many people found magic amongst the queues, temporarily erected marquees and spray painted ply-wood. And although it was nice that FC knew their friends etc, we never once heard him "ho ho" or seem jolly or particularly enthusiastic. I suppose I should be grateful he wasn't a drunk but his purple cheek make up was verging on clown-like.

No, this review is wrong. We took our 5 children who are aged 8 and under who all thoroughly enjoyed the day. Even down to our 2 year old who did not want to get off the ice. All I can think is that the parents put a downer on the day (maybe due to a wait) and were expecting to be pampered because it costs a bit more than your run of the mill Lakeside Grotto. It’s up to you to ensure that your children enjoy themselves. It takes work but in the environment provided its not too hard and well worth it. There were 8 of us in total Parents , one Grandparent and 5 children. Yes it cost well over £500.00 probably more than most have spent but to see the looks on our children’s faces was worth every penny. The food again a bit pricy was very good it cost £35.00 for us all to have lunch. Less than any service station.
The elves are putting on an act not waffling on. You have to get in the spirit of things.
And, get this, we brought a bauble as a souvenir. As we were taking down the tree it feel to the floor and broke as it was made out of glass. I e-mailed Lapland on Sunday, they replied today and offered to send a replacement free of charge.
Its reviews like this that gave me anxious nights wondering if the money we spent was wasted. It was not. If you want to pick holes or have unreachable expectations you will not enjoy this day but if you go with an upbeat attitude you will come away with memories that will last forever.

“A big con”

Written on: 24/11/2012

This was so expensive, the food was terrible and very expensive again, there was a plastic ice rink, and not much more for my two ten year old grand-daughters to do It was very badly organised, and was not one bit exciting as I would have expected for the money that they would have had a lot more people making it a very memorable day for the children. Queing up to get in took forever and caused the two youngest children to be bored and fed up by the time we got into the actual place. ... (read more)

I went in December 2008 I understand that was a long time ago however any child who is very festive(like me) will love it and the person who accompanied me loved it two. It was Christmas and snowy the tidy & well organised log cabin for lunch was great service and cosy along with the toy factory and gingerbread house. I booked for a family of 4 back in September at a cost of £270. A month or so before our trip we received the childrens personalised invitations quickly followed by the tickets. As the day approached I read some reviews and started to worry as some reviews were not good....... I needn't of worried. From the moment you arrive it is so very well organised. “Wonderful experience.... Except for OPC's”

Written on: 18/12/2011

Lapland UK is great - it does what it says on the website and provides a magical, if somewhat capitalistic day out. BUT, what totally ruined it for me personally (my kids still loved it) was how nasty and badly behaved other peoples children were. The place was filled with BRATS who should've been on Santa's naughty list. My children were respectfully listening to and enjoying the tales told by the Sami, the elves and Mother Christmas.... The BRATS were shouting, creating mayhem and likely... (read more)

The overall experience of Lapland UK was OK with my daughter loving meeting Father Christmas. Best one I've seen. The gift is very good (it needed to be at price of admission). However whole day I felt let down from the start...turn up pay £2 parking...not a lot but its the principle. We paid £204 for this and tagging on a compulsory parking was just greed and left a bad taste. Queues are a pain and you can no longer return to the square as after meeting Father Christmas, the route leads... (read more)

The groups were very large (at least 70 in our group) which spoilt to intimate special experience i was expecting. Only half an hour each in the toy factory and gingerbread room which felt a bit rushed and the children seemed confused. Went in 2008 and 2009 and it was wonderful, changed dramatically to disappointing in 2010. The children wanted to try again this year, 2011, and it is now TERRIBLE!! Just a nasty, tacky, commercial experience with one short good bit right at the end, the visit to Santa. This is the only thing worth coming for and I would say if that experience alone was available it would be worth £10 each to do it, the rest of the time was awful and a complete waste of money. This, I would guess from the reviews on the internet, is an event that has served purpose and is now allowed to rot. So if you plan on going, go now before they let it slip much farther. Reviews from a few years ago, speak oh so highly, but then fast forward and year on year you find more and more bad reviews. I would suggest saving the near £250.00 for a half day out, and instead go to a free santa at one of the major shopping outlets, then go into a shop, and blow the money on the toy,... (read more)

Lapland UK Kent - We had a fab time , we visited on the 12 Dec and were the first group of the day, so did not have to que, my 3 yr old was a little aprehensive of meeting father christmas and they were brilliant with him, the real husky dogs were beuatiful. Mother Christmas was good, could do with being a bit more jolly as the kids are quite excited and tired by this point. Ice skating ..... Get a real ice rink, fake ice is a no no.
Car park seems to be work in progress but was fine,... (read more)

Very disappointing, from the original telephone booking- which lasted almost an hour as apparently they were training that day, the staff suggested phoning us back in the end as the call is more expensive than usual rates. How to sum up, well its the first time i've left somewhere feeling totally robbed. Forget mud and lack of security and lighting when you exit into complete darkness,a four hour slot, lose an hour for lunch where you're just wandering aimlessly, lose another half hour on... I ordered a glass of wine which was served from a 3 litre screw top bottle which simply said 'WINE' on the front. It tasted totally vile. Two very sad looking reindeers and an equally sad pair of huskies. The elves however were marvellous and very enthusiastic and... (read more)

This is the third year we've been to Lapland UK. I was sorely disappointed and won't be going again. It was complete chaos at the entrance and even though our time slot was 10:30 we didn't get in until 10:40 because there was a long queue of confused people and no information about the delay. The performers are fun and enthusiastic and generally very good. All the activities are enjoyable and Father Christmas was much better this year. The down sides are: food was not included this year,... (read more)
