I booked an estate from this company, plus a child seat knowing that i needed space for 3 suitcases, 3 catty on bags and the child's buggy. I arrived and after a short wait to be told I had a Renault Clio. Then there was the discussion about insurance even though on booking the car i had paid for the no excess route i still had to pay more for the peace of mind 'walk away' cover, then another €20 deposit for the transponder which i had stated i was not using and was advised that i may not... Booked an automatic Corsa with TravelRent(through Argus Car Hire) recently and had no problems at all. Car was clean and ran well. They charged Euro20 for transponder which had the same amount in credit on it. This relieved anxiety of searching for outlet to pay tolls and especially when returning the car. Their "Tank full on pick-up and return full" policy is decent and fair. Their price was much less than other quotes. I will definitely use TravelRent again and glad to give praise where it... We hired a Seat Ibiza through Economy Car hire for 7 days in Faro from 25th August. It had quite a few scratches and scrapes but we were told not to worry about them as they were only concerned with major bumps. Sadly, we didn't check the tyres. We drove to our hotel and then didn't use the car until the Tuesday. We had a burst tyre on the motorway in Spain, had to put on the spare wheel and drive slowly back into Portugal. On inspection, you could see mesh and wire on both the front tyres.... (read more)

I was a little weary after reading various reviews after booking through economy car hire - £124 for 7 days for a Peugeot 207 estate (or similar). On arrival, you need to exit the departures and go over to the left and walk round into car park 4 where the desks are. It's all a bit of a fuss as there are about 15 car hire companies all in this same portacabin. We arrived at 9am on a Sunday along with about 3 other flights from the UK and there were a few people waiting in line but I found... (read more)

We paid £190 to hire a Corsa cdti for 7 days, not the cheapest by a long way so we were expecting a decent vehicle from a half decent company. We arrived at the travel rent desk to a warm welcome, we were shown around the car which was dirty and in a very sorry state. It was 4 years old with a dent or ding on every panel, i noticed straight away the ABS light was on, i questioned it with the travel rent staff who beeped the horn and said the car had been crashed and the light needed... For the past three years I have used Travel Rent on my summer trips to the Algarve. We have hd no problems and have been given new cars each time. Earlier this yer I was quoted a prive of Euro 85 for a 7 day hire However, when I collected the car I was told I had only been quoted for 6 days hire and I had to pay an extra Euro 15. On returning home, a letter of complaint has gone unanswered. My advice to anyone using Travelrent for the price benefits is to confirm the cost ahead of travelling... (read more)

Picked car up at night and was difficult to find desk but got there eventually. Car looked ok in the dark. Got a Fiat Punto Diesel and was happy with it. Next day I noticed a huge ding in the rear section of the sill underneath which I hadnt noticed when picking up the car as it was dark. This damage wasnt on paperwork either. I phoned Travelrent straight away to advise them of this. Im used to dealing with Avis/ Hertz and if you pick a vehicle up at night, you can ring them the next... (read more)

Agreed a rent through Argus. Arrived to be given a very tatty old Matiz, which had a faulty fuel gauge. Fuel level went down visibly to quarter from half full within a couple of miles. Returned to apathetic service at desk. Finally they agreed to replace with a newer version which arrived with two bald and illegal front tyres. Refused this car and had further wait to be supplied with almost new car of same type. This was good but WHY don't they check the vehicles are ok first ??? I wasted a... (read more)

We hire a car from Travel Rent every January for three to four months and we have been very pleased with the price offered and level of service. We did pick up a car in torrential rain in 2010 and could not inspect the vehicle. The next day we noticed a large dent and a tire that did not appear to have sufficient tread. We sent them an email and were asked to bring the car back to the airport which we did and a replacement was given to us immediately. We are often offered a brand new... (read more)

After reading mixed reviews, we booked through a broker- Economy car hire. We paid £142 for a 8 day hire of a Corsa ( 5 door manual with AC) Included in the price was an extra driver and full tank of petrol and the optional full insurance(via Economy car hire) We picked up the car in the dark, and the car hire desk was very hard to find. It is located in car park 4, and with all the roadworks around the airport car parks its a bit of wonder we found it at all!! The guy who processed our... (read more)

Used Travel Rent this august and despite reservations after reading other reviews I had no problems. They were helpful online and by phone when booking, and when I arrived I got a Seat Ibiza estate with plenty of space for a family of 5 and lots of luggage. Car was trouble free as was hand-over on return. A small scrape on the underside of the front bumper was added to the form after I identified it at pick-up. The only disadvantage is that it's a bit of a walk to car park 4 with your... (read more)

Hired the car through Argushire in UK. Picked up car in Faro airport. Very tatty Fiat Punto. Missing Fiat logo badge and key fob did not work. Travel rent rep did not want to put either on vehicle damage report, but eventually marked missing badge. When I returned the car the rep approach me from the drivers side of the car and then went directly and without hesitation to the passengers door and pointed out that the lock had been pushed in. He checked nothing else on the car , not even the... (read more)

I went through an online broker which selected Travel Rent for me - the Ford Galaxy I booked was €300 cheaper over 2 weeks with Travel Rent when compared with similar vehicles from the mainstream firms such as Hertz. However, the vehicle was a 5 year-old Galaxy with 60,000 km on the clock, and reasonably significant damage and scratches on most body panels. The rear passenger door had a major dent which prevented the door from locking, which was worrying. I got the impression that this... (read more)

Being the cheapest is not a case of paying for what you get. Some dubious practices are being undertaken by their admin staff at the airport. 1. Arrived at desk in Faro airport car park which represents all the local car hire companies. The queue for Travel Rent was 20 people long (the others 1 or 2). Our wait was over 1hr. 2. The lady who dealt with us was friendly, but I am convinced she tried to rip us off. She charged separately for the car seats first and requested cash (which was... (read more)

With some doubts, we did rent a car from them -just after bank holiday weekend. We arrive in Faro Airport, 1 hour before the time. Car was ready, but they offer us better deal on smaller car - Chevrolet was perfect for 2 people. The price was cool (extra insurance costed us only 5 euro for all days). Car in good conditions, we could easily give back the car at 7am, without any additional fees. For this price - 50 euro for 3,5 days including everything, it's absolutely ok! (read more)

I have also used Travel Rent for a number of years and the service has been sufficient taking into account price. Over the past six months and three rentals the service has gone downhill. Even more disturbing is they are resorting to mainstream client intimidation over alleged damages to the cars. Faultless service, faultless car.
My only negative comment would be that we do not choose the car but the TYPE of car. Other than that, everything was 100%.
ADVICE: reserve your car well in advance.
ADVICE: take out FULL insurance to include waiver of 'excess' which will cost you an extra 60 Euros. The excess could set you back Euros 900 and also the other insurance of about Euros 3 a day to cover tyres, windscreen and door locks.... for peace of mind
The roads in Portugal are good and the...

A bit of a mission to find the Check-in desk in Parking Lot 4, but once found everthing went pretty smoothly. Rented a Ford Fiesta for a week. Collection fairly quick and informal. Car had a few scratches which were marked on the hire sheet, we inspected the car and added a few more marks onto the sheet which they had missed. They took our word for them and just signed the sheet.
Car ran ok for the week and return at 8am was done in the car park, Guy only checked the fuel level, no inspection of the bodywork and returned the credit card slip which we gave as security. We did notice that one of the...

Collected from Travelrent Faro. Car was a little bit scuffed, and not in its prime, but it was well kitted out and didn't let us down. Had to wait for about half an hour at collection desk due to popularity. Very easy drop off, with no fuss. Overall this is a very low cost hire, the car was as expected, no hassle, just don;t expect brand new mint condition casrs all the time, but in some respect that can take some of the pressure off(return inspection non-existant). On inspecting original tyre there was a significent gash to the inner casing along the rim line. This serious damage obviously caused by severe impact, with a pothole, rock or kerb.

Terrible Experience with Gold Car in Faro.
I booked through Argus Car Rental - be warned - you do not know which rental car company you get until they send you a confirmation - it was Gold Car. Terrible service - 50 minute wait - then a hard sell on insurance - and then the petrol trick - full tank / bring back empty.
Its pretty clear they put in low prices to the Argus and Cartrawler search engines to get the business and then recover the rest through extortionate pricing on fuel - how you can return a tank empty is beyond me - on average if people bring it back 1/3 full they are making an extra 45 euros on every rental.
Do not use Cartrawler or Argus if your rental is less than three days. These are the ones Gold Car really wants as they know you won't use much petrol.
Be warned!!!!!! Skip Gold Car and Skip Cartrawler and Argus who are allowing them to get away with it.
