Travelled four times now with EMT, very happy, excellent trains good first class service (great seats, wi-fi, trolley service, good first class lounge at St. Pancras and an acceptable one at Leicester) Can recommend… Read Full Review

“St.Pancras-EastMidlandsParkway”

Written on: 06/05/2014 by Skotzia (1 review written)

Yesterday I traveled from London St.Pancras Intl to East Midlands Parkway Getting on the train was fine, it was early and there was plenty of free seats to choose from, the train set off for the 1hr 45 min journey, then we hit leister and that's where the problems began, I went to the buffet kitchen for refreshments and on my return realised one of my bags had gone missing, Yes it had been stolen :( The staff were not helpful in the slightest, they didn't even seen to care, non of my fellow… Read Full Review

“Penny pinching and downright dangerous.”

Written on: 11/02/2014 by HarryDean (1 review written)

Friday 20/12/2013. Along with four friends we traveled from Manchester to Uttoxeter for a day at the races. Well the first leg couldn't have gone more smoothly. The others caught the Virgin trains service from Piccadilly, we me joining at Stockport. Table seat, smooth journey. Comfortable and punctual. Departed at Stoke On Trent for the second leg of our journey, which is where the problems began. About 250 racegoers and locals waiting on the platform to be greeted by the East Midlands service… Read Full Review

“EastMidlands Trains - London - Do not Book”

Written on: 12/01/2014

Train there was ok it was extremely noisy and over crowded. But on the way back was hurrendous. The train was cancelled at the last minute due to the driver not showing up. So we had to wait 1 hour and half outside in the freezing cold as there was no where to get inside as all the cafes were closed. Getting on the train back we lost our first class seats. The train was extremely overcrowded with people sitting on the floor everywhere including a PREGNANT lady with a small child. Lucky enough a… Read Full Review

“Fine until it hits the fan”

Written on: 18/12/2013 by DaForester (1 review written)

When all is well the level of service is acceptable. Sure it's gone significantly downhill since the days of Midland Mainline - who too had their faults. Staff generally are rude and arrogant. For East Midlands Trains the Passenger Charter and Terms of Carriage are like a religious text... They'll happily pick and choose the bits that suit them but ignore anything in support of the customer. When services are disrupted the staff at stations disappear. Announcements are automated and… Read Full Review

“A Goodwill Gesture”

Written on: 02/12/2013 by RJ15T (2 reviews written)

I booked advance tickets to London with East Midlands Trains. If you book direct there is no booking fee and no credit card charge. Unfortunately the very next day I was taken seriously ill and could not undertake the trip. After discharge from hospital I contacted EMT and was advised to write to the head office , with a copy of my hospital discharge letter. By return they advised me of a full refund - how's that for a goodwill gesture! No such luck with RailEurope, but that's another… Read Full Review

“Not even free water with a first class ticket.!”

Written on: 27/07/2013 by Mike998 (1 review written)

Travelling to London from Chesterfield in first class on Saturday 27 July at 0939. If you want your free tea or coffee on is service you now have to go to the buffet to get it instead of the previous seat side service. Also it is tea or coffee only no free water anymore. Service? What service!… Read Full Review

“Decent hot meal”

Written on: 11/07/2013 by extendedpaul (3 reviews written)

I travelled from Derby at 7pm to St Pancras on EMT. Tea, coffee, biscuits apple and orange juice and bottled water were offered twice during the 95 minute journey. I ordered a hot meal for a very reasonable £4.95 which was served to my seat within 10 minutes. I had the Yorkshire Pudding with beef in ale plus onions and potato wedges. It was hot, delicious and filling. I paid £25 minus a £10 discount code EMT sent me. The train was clean, comfortable and punctual. 100% satisfied… Read Full Review

“Disabled very friendly!”

Written on: 05/06/2013

I am writing this review after a trip to London at the weekend with my disabled mother. There were 4 in our party including my mum, from arriving at Chesterfield station the staff couldn't have been more helpful, one lady in particular who I am afraid I didn't get her name, it was the 3pm train on Saturday 1st June to London St. Pancras, she was an absolute star, she helped us onto the train via a wheelchair ramp and helped us get seated then she rang through to London to make them aware that… Read Full Review

“What a disappointment!”

Written on: 30/03/2013

Went down To Nottingham today to watch the footy - thought I'd try the train from Stockport rather than use my car. The outgoing train from Stockport had just enough seats - pleased about that because despite having reserved a seat EM had not bothered to put out the reservation tickets. The service was pretty quick through to Nottingham and satisfactory despite lack of refreshments. Coming home - oh my God - two carriages at Nottingham for a service though to Liverpool - what a joke - crammed… Read Full Review

“Refunds Disgrace Ref 6340AAKS”

Written on: 29/10/2012 by GrrrrrMan (1 review written)

I bought a return ticket to Nottingham at Lincoln Station for £10.30 with the intention of travelling the following day. Unfortunately I became unwell and could not travel. A few days later I checked online to see if I could get a refund, and sure enough it said I could. I drove to the station, parked in their 20 minute short stay for £0.50, queued up, only to be told that I was entitled to a 30 pence refund because there is an administration charge of £10. GREAT!!! So overall I end up… Read Full Review

“Cattle Class Travel”

Written on: 15/10/2012

Caught the last London Midland train from Euston to Rugby on Saturday 13th October 2012. Cheap fare. Had the last couple of seats available. Many standing. Listening to various conversations, there weren't many UK passport holders on board! Next time will travel Virgin even though a little more. To be fair, you get what you pay for… Read Full Review

“Better than expected and travelled with 3 under 6yrs!”

Written on: 09/08/2012 by Mafi (1 review written)

Was very nervous after reading reviews as I was travelling with three small childrens. Trains were really clean both ways, staff pleasant enough. It seems that they are aware that others have been unhappy and some serious effort was made - free icecreams as you arrive (for all passengers) and spotless cabins. We got a table both ways (this was really important to me) and just a really straight forward, fantastic trip, would definately travel with them again… Read Full Review

“London Sheffield First Class return - July 2012”

Written on: 10/07/2012 by Anoldclone (1 review written)

Admittedly the fare is not much more than cattle class but what poor service and standards for "First Class". The trip up on a Friday afternoon was ok in an attractive but poorly maintained carriage (window curtains all off the runners). Tea/coffee/orange juice served (but only one biscuit offered - even if you have a second cup). Coming back on a Sunday afternoon was even more down market. Only tea/coffee (no biscuits) served once, in paper cups by a surly woman, from a trolley that looked… Read Full Review

Train journey from hell. Took day return trip with my wife to Manchester yesterday. Outward journey was terrible. Had seat reservation bit coach didnt exist, neither did seat. Return journey was worse. Packed on like sardines just outside toilets, couldnt get into carriage as so full so couldnt claim reserved seat. 14 people plus the three in the toilets, crying baby in buggy, juat unbelieveable. Carriage was full of chanting football fans anyway so litle hope of claiming seat if we could have… Read Full Review

Written on: 13/12/2010 by nottinghamfella (41 reviews written)

Since East Midlands trains took over the old Midland Mainline route to/from London the level of service has dropped.

I had always paid that bit extra for 1st class, but now the extra money isn't worth what you get.

I purchased an 1st Advance ticket in October for travel to London from Nottingham on Monday 13 December, returning back on Wednesday 15 December.

Online ticket purchases are managed by the trainline a separate company to East Midlands Trains and are outsourced. The online booking… Read Full Review

Since East Midlands trains took over the old Midland Mainline route from Derby to London the level of service has dropped.
I had always paid that bit extra for 1st class, but now the extra money isn't worth what you get.
The coffee tastes foul, the snacks have shrunk to something which wouldn't satisfy even a small child, seat reservations are sometimes nowhere to be found, luggage space on some trains is a joke. Sometimes the only place for luggage is in the wheelchair space. Wine is no longer… Read Full Review
